They're creatures from a game called Starcraft. It's a strategy game, and one of the sides (armies) was "The Zerg", an alien race. Zerglings are their most basic combat creatures, and they were puny but cheap so you would generally spawn masses of them and "zergling rush." And because of that it's become a part of gamer culture for swarms of noobs and whatnot to be "zerging" things.

To be honest, I'm not excited for it. I'm not going to go die and lose my level for someone I don't even want to support but have no other option.

And I also am meeting my brother and his girlfriend for lunch an hour after it starts. Weeee.
