Hello!

Joined Lusternia in August of 2010, out of curiosity generated from this conversation:
(Azula irl): I won 100 credits!
(Exaviel irl): Share, share!
(Me):What?What?
(Exaviel irl): Luste. Search it on Google.

For me it was "I found this cool game a few weeks ago, you should try it!" in late spring 2005.

*almost doesn't make it through Portal of Fate*

You were the first Aqua to help me, I recall. Told me to read that self-training scroll..which I read without comprehending anything. unsure.gif

Breidr is regretting stepping into that portal right about now...

Oh, sorry. D:

I try to be a lot more helpful now, but you were not that much younger than me at the time and I was still getting my bearings after having taken a break for the better part of a year.

Nah. Was my fault, really. Kalegyne told me to read that again, too..but I guess I understood 'lessons' as tasks rather than payment to invest in skillsets. tongue.gif

Hi everyone!

Odette is young. I can't think of any other way to describe her, or any word more perfect. I'm really looking forward to this game and from those I have met, I am thoroughly impressed by the roles people have held up without tripping up.

I especially love the mentor system. ♥

Well, as rl back-history goes, I'm gonna be 25 on the 25th of this month, and am probably one of the youngest people to ever use a BBS (Billboard System) I'd think? It was what was around before the internet even exsisted to the public, heheh. My brother owned and ran a BBS from our house when he was in highschool, and some of the best games I've played in my entire life to date, were BBS Door Games like Usurper (the best imo!) and L.O.R.D. (Legend Of The Red Dragon), among others! I think Trade Wars was big on there too but I was too little to even comprehend what was going on in that one I think, and/or just wasn't interested at the time. I've been gaming since before I could read, literally, and I always used to have my brother come over to read to me what was on the screen when playing games like Law Of The West and Heart Of Africa on the Commadore 64 computer, cause I couldn't really read yet, heheheh. So, that being said, I've been through countless games, Ultima Online still being the best game/gaming experience I've played in my life, pre-trammel anyway, which Trammel ruined the game and killed it outright. And of course had played EverQuest, WoW, and SWG among others, and really only have the experience of one other MUD that I played somewhat briefly many years ago.

MMORPG's today are just, absolutely terrible imo. Everytime there's a good one, they manage to obliterate it, usually at the hands of EA. But more importantly, there's just, only so much you can do in a "graphical world" if that's what you'd call it. I mean Ultima Online got away with alot because they were 2D and the view gave so many awesome possibilities, like people decorating their homes, even making casinos and slot machines out of dice cups, backpacks, poles, etc, heheh. But, it's a 100% completely different game now, and I still to this day find the funnest game I've ever played, along with UO, was Usurper back on the BBS's. You just can't beat text games, they offer so much more imo, and allow so much more to happen, like with broken bones, knockdowns, ailments, etc etc. Not to mention it's pretty much impossible not to be immersed! Anyway, after doing some research on the old MUD I used to play, I decided not to join, and found this game, and I think I'm gonna be very glad that I did! Hopefully we can help get the population to rise even more! Hopefully I can slowly talk some other people into playing it. It's hard though, because in today's world if the average person has to read more than 2 sentences of anything at a time, they break down into bawling tears of frustration, yanking at their hair while slamming their head against the wall screaming at the top of their lungs for the words to just go away!

Anyway, a short beginning to my character tongue.gif :

Kallic enjoys the spice of life, and to him there's nothing better than to be festive. His perfect night would start with a good ale and a good gamble, lead to good discussion, peak with a good dance, descend into a good brawl, and end with a good pipe to reflect on it all. Though it may seem unorthodox to some, Kallic has been drawn to New Celest, believing that these festivities bring light, healing, insight, positive spirit, and positive energy in their own right. He intends to live and protect these festivities through diplomatic influence, kata training, and hopes to find himself on an Aethercraft crew at some point. : (Subject to change as I learn more heheh. I may wind up having to restart as something else in a different direction =P)

Hello!

I have to admit that the bit I bolded is rather amusing, given that I saw the big block of text talking about BBSes and MMORPGs from someone new and immediately leaped to "spambot" (trying to parse it for links) before realizing it was not.

Sounds like you'll fit right in, though.

I admit I thought spambot for some reason too.

BBS was bulletin board, not billboard. I used to run one in Alaska in the late 80s, I was the regional Fidonet hub.

Hahahah, yeah now that I do a quick glance over it it does kinda look like that! I just type too fast and ramble too much is the problem tongue.gif

Hello -- uhm, I feel a little self-conscious not using a character name, but I haven't totally decided on it yet. unsure.gif

I'm Juliette / Jules. I've played IRE games before in limited amounts -- Imperian and Lusternia, though my e-mail addresses didn't show anything for this forum, weird. I've had trouble managing my time well-enough to keep active, so I really want to try to correct that. I just keep coming back! Uhhh my history, I'll be twenty-four this April (doooooom) and have tinkered with MUDs since Dragon Realms and Gemstone were on AOL. Yeah, I was like 12, it was weird. Otherwise I've RPed on journal systems and enjoy RPGs for gaming systems. I've tried MMORPGs but yearn for the RP aspect. ... and I should probably wait on starting play until after my Mandarin mid-term Thursday (doom x 9999).

I was going to start a new topic (obviously after this comment) for some of my questions about roleplay and other mechanics, but maybe some of them can be addressed here:

1) The Portal of Fate: I've been musing over a few different character concepts, but I'm concerned about how much should be retained once x character goes through the Portal. Like... I don't want to have the special snowflake ridiculousness of x character remembering all this stuff when no one else did, but at the same time, characters are often hugely impacted by their histories and experiences, so it's hard to legitimize certain behaviors if the history has been completely forgotten. (On the other hand, I'm so out of touch with current in-game going-ons and have forgotten so much, the memory loss is a total boon sleep.gif).

2) More a question for the descriptions topic, but I don't have a full desc. put together -- is it in bad form to list a feature as vestigial in the description? Obviously a character looking at x wouldn't be able to tell they're vestigial (unless, I guess, they were in some way deformed). Like, say you have a human with vestigial gills. Other features aside, technically someone looking may not be able to tell if x is human or a diluted Merian... etc. Is that right?

3) ETA: According to the histories, Trills and Lucidians tended to pair up. Only humans can breed with other races to produce children (and, I guess, Viscanti). It'd be impossible for a Lucidian and Trill to have offspring, right? I mean... logically, crystals and avian beings, yeah, but given that with humans it's all about the shard, idek.

... and not important enough for its own number, just a casual curiosity, is it weird to anyone else that the City of Harmony doesn't have a bard guild?

Thanks and sorry for the tl;dr!

It's probably going to come eventually, but they can't really sustain enough people yet to further split the player base, or the developer time. And bards are more of an afterthought than the three guilds they do have; no one really needs them, they're just sorta nice to have, maybe, on a good day.

Makes sense, thanks! And logically, there's nothing stopping members of other guilds from producing works of art -- which, of course, =/= Bard, but.

Right now the Aeromancers function as the city's art guild, and have control of the stage, to boot. We even have one or two members who are musicians. I expect to lose a sizeable chunk of guild population when the bards come out, just as we lost a large portion of our scientist folk when the Institute was released. suspicious.gif

ANYWAY.

It's really up to you! The Portal seems to have a different effect on everyone, generally tending towards some amount of memory loss. Some people come out and RP with complete and total knowledge of their life before it. Others forget everything, and are effectively a blank slate. And then there are a whole lot of people who fit somewhere in between. There's a great amount of freedom with it, and I don't think anyone would think twice about just how much memory you choose to retain. Do what you think is most likely to be fun for you!

Though outwardly confident, Ilan constantly desires to grow stronger, in order to prove to himself that he is indeed worthy of protecting his home.

He also has quite the sweet-tooth :)
