Oh, I died over and over and over. But as Volroc (Hallen, I assume?) said, the medallions instant-killed every single kethuru spawn in a room when you walked into it, and since rooms could generally have like 3-15 spawns in them I was gaining such ridiculous amounts of experience that the dying hardly mattered at all.

Psh. I would have said "Screw it" to helping anybody and just flown around astral landing in rooms, clearing them, picking up the gold, and flying again tongue.gif It would have been hilarious to see a seal holder get Demi laugh.gif

That's actually exactly what I did. tongue.gif Minus the flying, most of the time - only time I had to fly was to escape clots of actual astral mobs.

So here's the important question: What happens to Soll now?
Unknown2007-01-28 05:22:45
Yeah, I died a lot too, but the sheer volume of spawn that were dying each time I went back up more than made up for the loss. What was really funny was the fact that it worked even after I died...so I'd run around to a few more rooms as a soul killing spawn before I conglutted.

Oh, and yes I am Hallen. I thought I mentioned that in one of my other few forum posts.
Unknown2007-01-28 05:32:18
Told you Amarysse could have made it.
Exarius2007-01-28 05:32:38
I'll add my congratulations to Soll to the pile. smile.gif

The whole event played to all my weaknesses, so even if RL had allowed me to participate, I'd never have gotten close. From the sound of it, I don't know how anyone managed to get through without going insane.

Good luck with your new role, and remember: if anyone asks you if you're a god, say, "Yes."
Shorlen2007-01-28 06:53:49
Well, I do like that I am now closer to Divinity than any living mortal (as Soll is neither anymore sad.gif), and can RP stuff off that smile.gif I'm not sure what the points were supposed to symbolize, but I love the idea that they symbolize how powerfully the Divine Spark was fanned by the Staff, with 3,600 being the threshold for Ascension.
Unknown2007-01-28 07:14:12
Yeah Soll well played. Seriously.

I can't really comment much since I wasn't there but my deathsight was spammed and it seemed pointless because there was hardly any PvP, just dying to endless invincible mobs. I remember maybe 4 Player deaths to other players.

Best part: When everyone complained the tentacles and eyeballs couldn't climb trees, then it was weaved in that they could. I had managed to guess the weave was the ability to climb and I was right!

On the whole, it was boring unless you were up there so maybe they could have involved people like my character who aren't too fond of PvP (I don't know, maybe like the more essence we gathered would make some fighters stronger like stat increases).

People vastly overestimiate how much PvP skill factors into these things. You could have helped immensely, as long as you could survive, or didn't mind dying a lot.

Well, I didn't get to see the start cause a friend of mine dropped by to hang out this morning and I couldn't tell her "Hey, can we cut this short? A God is going to Ascend in an hour and a half." laugh.gif And then I went to work and didn't get to see any of the rest of it either! laugh.gif

Congratulations Soll! cheer.gif
Ekard2007-01-28 09:58:18
This event was amazing!!!
I love it!

I couldnt be here from the start, i was planning on not showing up at all, but when i returned to home and logged in i saw that event is still in play, soll have 1900 points where Shorlen have 3k.
From this point i joined to fun.
And i didnt died, zero, null ninja.gif
Closest to death i was when Serenwilde zerglings ge into our greatpent by cancer's node.

Soll was quite leader during that time where i was there.
Soll have a little advatage on others as he had 2 other seal berers to help him, so instantly killing mobs and they could take and carry staff too.
Soll made one stupid mistake, if he would not picked up staff while graced he would have won few minutes earlier.

So anyway, congrats Soll!!
And do not forgot about what i told you before event. Peulus surname have to be in Event post tongue.gif ninja.gif ninja.gif

And Shamarah, you bastard!!!!! mad.gif mad.gif

I think this pretty much sums up why Soll won. There were several Celestians that were there from the beginning (and were fighting for an hour and half before the beginning with the Mags who were trying to take out Cancer!) who would have thrown in the towel early on had Soll not been there to keep motivating us.

He never had a defeatist attitude, he never complained where we could hear it, he kept us all going and together. Others took care of some of the details of organizing people for specific tasks but it was Soll that kept those people going. It takes a lot to inspire people to die for you over and over again and then get up, dust themselves off, and walk right into death again. Plus he knew what he was doing. He was more than prepared. He knew Astral well and he went to what nodes he could get to quickly to slowly build up time rather than necessarily the one that was the best defended.

He was like the energizer bunny and he made us believe he could win despite what the numbers were telling us. And that's what kept me there instead of logging off. So in the beginning I may have been helping him because he was my friend and none of the other contestants appealed to me but by the end I was quite certain he was the best of the bunch for the position. Anyone who can inspire that sort of masochism and hope against all odds while he's still mortal is bound to be a good god! laugh.gif
Shorlen2007-01-28 15:10:41
Yeah, just about the biggest advantage Soll had over me was that I know nothing about Astral geography, nor about where the Cubix exits led, nor about how pyramid puzzles worked.
Unknown2007-01-28 16:59:42
I'm rather disappointed to be honest. Oh well...

Congrats to Soll btw. smile.gif
Unknown2007-01-28 17:03:34
On a somewhat unrelated note, would any of the other Sealbearers mind posting what their Medallions did to the Kethuru spawn? I thought it was a nice touch how they each had different death messages. Death did a sort of black mist thing that burned the spawn down to skeletons, and Knowledge fired a blast of azure light that blew the brains out of the spawn, so I'm a little curious what the others did.

The Seal of Chaos worn by you sends forth a beam of multicoloured light which
dissolves a mass of tentacles.

Looks like we got the boring ones tongue.gif

The Seal of Nature worn by you sends forth a beam of emerald light which dissolves a mass of tentacles.

Psh. The Seal of Nature should have sent out a mass of vines which beat the tentacles at their own tentacly game, tearing them apart and thoroughly raping them! Metaphorically, of course... superninja.gif

Subj: The Ascension of Soll

As the final trials drew to a close, Nine Sealbearers had been chosen by
their respective seals. Avechna, the Avenger, appeared atop Avechna's
Peak and bound the Nine Seals together into the Staff of Ascension, an
artifact of sublime power which could be used to re-charge the Seals and
mend the weakness in Almighty Kethuru's prison.

The Soulless God, sensing His weakness, ravaged the Astral Plane with
vicious assaults as He attempted to break through from His prison. The
Nine Sealbearers fought to hold the Staff of Ascension, each backed by
his or her own coterie of loyal followers. In the beginning, Shorlen,
Bearer of the Seal of Chaos, reigned supreme, defended zealously by the
Serenwilde Commune. Hordes of vile monstrosities formed from Almighty
Kethuru attacked in endless waves, and many fell, but through it all
Shorlen managed to continue holding the Staff, re-sealing the holes in
Kethuru's prison even as his mind slipped into gibbering insanity from
the wrath of the Soulless God.

However, the forces of Magnagora, led by Daevos Feyranti, the Sealbearer
of Death, overwhelmed the Serenwilders and slew Shorlen, seizing the
Staff of Ascension from his grasp, even when it seemed that Shorlen's
victory was all but assured. The Staff was entrusted to Hallen Mes'ard,
Sealbearer of Knowledge, who struggled to keep it within his grasp
against the tides of monstrosities and Lusternians who did not support
the Magnagoran's bid for ascension.

The Staff of Ascension continued to switch hands, but it was Soll,
Sealbearer of Life, who eventually maintained a firm hold on the Staff
of Ascension, nimbly avoiding his attackers and marshaling the armies of
New Celest to defend him. In a nail-biting finish, Soll emerged
triumphant over the other Sealbearers, wielding the Staff of Ascension
to re-seal the prison of Almighty Kethuru.

However, the burning divine energies of the Staff consumed the mortal
form of Soll, reducing him to naught but ashes, to the dismay of his
allies. Avechna, the Avenger, mourned his passing, but bid Lusternians
never forget the sacrifices made for the salvation of all creation.

It was Estarra, the Eternal, who announced that Soll was not forever
dead, as some had feared. His mortal flesh and consciousness had been
blistered away, but there remained the divine spark of his inner soul
which had been fanned by the powers of the Nine Seals into true
divinity.

Thus it was that Ayridion, the White Flame, was born from the ashes of
the mortal Soll, the first of the Ascended Gods to tread upon the Planes
of Lusternia.

And ol' Soll chose a pleasing "inner form"...

QUOTE
He is a radiant immortal and bears a strict, upright posture that augments His
towering physique. Lean muscles frame His body, bringing definition and grace
untouched by the wear of time or battle. His facial features are marked by a
slight youth, sanctified and invigorated, a thin nose resting above a pair of
tight, unmarred lips. Piercing black orbs reflect an innate interest in life,
glistening with an esoteric passion, aesthetically opposed by short golden hair
that glimmers with a subtle luminosity. Translucent white flames roll lightly
over His form, rising in great pyres from around His feet and dissipating above
His head. Graceful wings arch from His shoulderblades, glowing with a veritable
golden lustre and bordered by a row of pristine, pearlescent feathers. He is
wearing a set of pearlescent robes, wreathed in flames.
