Ah, that too.
You scream at Fearion, the guide, for being such a pig headed fool.
You have scored a CRITICAL point in the conversation!
You laugh at Fearion, the guide, because you know you're far better looking.
You have scored a RIDICULOUSLY POWERFUL CRITICAL point in the argument!

Your amazing attempt at seduction has ANNIHILATED their inhibitions!

I like. Should be a PvP attack too.

Yay for Influencing Crits!
Cities and communes are high level influecing areas, the only problem is that you can only have 1 or 2 people per city or commune actually take adavantage of it.

Nah, I influence guards, and the exp is too little, for too long of work, it seems. I can influence all day on guards, and barely get any exp.

Make Supernals or similar influenceable again? Make them intimidating, and perhaps also immune to paranoia. We may be like small pets to them (or, for Nil, as flies to wanton boys), but even a small pet can cheer you up or get on your nerves. Define their ego and experience right, and you have your high-level influencing area right there.
Or create an aetherbubble with a legislature or commodities trading pit, where the quests rely a lot on influencing to assemble a coalition and everyone has so much experience with being wheedled or toadied to that it's difficult and rewarding to influence them.

I don't like the first area, because no one is going to let me up there just to argue with their holy/unholy folks.
The second one though, I like.

*influence Raziela with seduction*
*enemy all of Celest*
*tell Daevos Hey, want to kill Raziela? I'll make sure Celest won't be a problem*
OR
*tell Forren Hey there's something wrong with Raziela! Can you get Celest to come and take a look at her?*

Not just holy and unholy - there are communes, too. Actually...
Imagine trying to influence the clowns or ducks on Astral?
Anyway, the administration can do both if they want. And, much as I respect their talents, reflagging the Supernals, etc., has got to be faster than creating the Parliament of Gnomes. Or Gnome Exchange. Parliament could be fun - influence individuals to join a faction, faction leaders to join a coalition, and the combination of factions in coalition will determine what legislation gets passed, with different bills having different effects. Free bromide refills at the Legislative Bar while the Bread and Circuses coalition is in (Populist, Autocratic, Conservatives)! Open up the gladiatorial arena for the bashers! Send the mighty Gnome Navy to deliver one (1) bombardment on the foe of your choice at the next weakening! Exploit no-bid government contracts to become wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice! Subsidize trade with an org! Open up the secret section of the area! Get an audience with the Emperor!
The Exchange could also have aether-convoys, dispatched on supply routes for fun and profit. Opposed aetherships could conduct commerce-raiding! Mercantile interests could try to bribe factions in the Senate! Or avoid Senatorial investigation!
That's far too many exclamation points. But it does sound fun to me.

Hence the provision that they be intimidating. I think most everyone finds them so in combat, why not as influence targets as well?

They could be influenced with weaken then.
EDIT: Actually intimidating is even weak to the influencing weaken style. IE it's easiest to influence them with weaken.
Daganev2007-06-07 15:46:15
Candyland used to be really good for influencing. And you could complete the quest. You have to make them easier to influence than it is easier to kill them to make it really worth while though.
Still the best thing to do is to make Influencing Criticals, rather than making new mobs.

I still suport my suggestion of having small aetherbubbles with crazed half-formed.
Vaerhon2007-06-07 23:35:30
@Shadow
Weaken isn't disastrous the way seduce is. It wouldn't be easy for an organization to maintain an unenemied group of people capable of influencing such. These would be very long influencings. I would think that the ones to prevent are seduction, and then possibly paranoia and weaken. I expect that they could just define a new attitude, like holy (or unholy, for Magnagora.) withi immunities to seduction, paranoia and, weaken. Maybe to begging, too, if that's too odd. That would leave just empowering, but would give each org a set of very high-level influence targets. Not much help for Richter, but some for everyone while more aetherbubbles get written.
Has anyone tried large scale influencing in the Undervault yet?

Quoted for the cool factor. Mini-Supernals with....sanity problems and a taste for mortal blood.
Vaerhon2007-06-08 02:00:29
Crazed half-formed would be interesting - but if they have a taste for blood, not really a new hope for influencers. Of course, who says they can't do both?
Sylphas2007-06-08 03:39:35
I would it interesting to have aggressive creatures that are completely immune to attacks, and won't stop hitting you until you persuade them not to, or intimidate them, or otherwise influence them to leave you alone. Maybe some restless spirits seeking mortal hosts or something, where you drive them off with your charisma and force of will, instead of swords and magic. Obviously, they wouldn't be mangling you too badly, but it would force you balance your sipping and make it more interesting for flavor than a lot of things are now.

Kind of hard when--
1) You're a faeling.
2) You have faeling health.
3) Your charisma isn't worth a damn if you die.
4) You see 7 adoraths.
5) You are promptly forced to bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.
The best you can do in mass-influencing is to stay in one hive. Any hive will do. It's an influencer's dream down there.
