The only problem I can see is that glasses are pretty technologically and scientifically advanced. They require an understanding of how the anatomy of the eye actually works, some concept of the way light travels and the way a prism works, and even then more advanced study into the effects of concave vs. convex lenses.
It would be difficult to come up with RP justification for their introduction, since the scientific method isn't really the way we think in Lusty.

That's a fair point... ish.
But, the properties of lenses have been known for longer than you think. To shamelessly plagarise a website:
The manufacture and properties of lenses were known since the time of the Greeks. Islamic scholars such as the Egyptian physician Alhazen (born in the 10th century) made important contributions to the study of optics. However, lenses were not introduced to Europe until around the 13th century. By 1300, the first eyeglasses were available in cities such as Venice and Florence, and advances in lens making and polishing soon followed.
Secondly, you don't need a detailed medical understanding of the eye to find that a lens of a certain type helps you see better. Of course we're not talking modern day accuracy... but if we can fashion beautiful gemstone vials, gorgeous jewels, etc... I'm sure we can cut a piece of glass or gemstone into a position which aids the myopic.

Spectacles already exist - there's a scribe in Magnagora wearing them.

The Lunarlit Bindery.
Superimposed over this location, an ethereal forest reaches up to the sky. A
heavy printing press has been assembled in the corner. A painting of a fallen
tree is proudly exhibited on a nearby wall. Peering over his spectacles with a
frown, a haughty scribe stands here.
They're out there. Not to mention there's already an artifact pair of spectacles.
But yes, I agree. Glasses/monocles might be a nice jewelry addition. Something else to add flair and funness.
Arkzrael2007-02-22 07:42:22
Arkie has glasses. I have aliases for her putting them on and off, and especially using emotes to intimidate little Shadowbound by staring at them over the spectacles. She's a librarian and a scholar, sue me for being cliche but she needs glasses!
Arix2007-02-22 07:48:47
Arix needs a monocle

Whoo, I want spectacles too. Technically, they do exist in non-artifact form in Lusternia. The "Haughty scribes" at printing presses have 'em.
I wouldn't say no to the ability to make rose-tinted glasses, either.

And I'm still in favour of this. All that time Faethyr's spent hanging around the printing press in Deepnight couldn't have been good for his eyes.

Yeah but Calico thought you were hitting on him when you did it
However I always liked the ideas of glasses, spectacles, whatever. And sunglasses should be possible, just make like thin peices of onyx. Lenses would be the same as well just cut gem. And you could have tinted glasses too.
Linaeve2007-02-28 22:31:10
I'd love this. Playing other games I've had characters who wore spectacles, although it was only description- and emote-based. I recall dabbling in... hm, I think it was Imperian, for a whole day or two and seeing spectacles for sale, and I was willing to play for that sole reason. *hum*
Anyway, it'd be great if jewellers made them, that way they could even be gem encrusted or be hung on little necklaces so you could wear them around your neck. *daydream*

Pince-nez for the win. I would love to see glasses of any stripe. Heck, make them properly enchantable, like crowns and rings and such. They'd be great for Illusion/Discernment/Scry/whatever-related things!
As for people worried that they'll look silly wearing them, you look plenty silly wearing the other two dozen pieces of jewelry you've got on, so smile and enjoy being more sparkly.

Ark! Stop talking about glasses and push Synl into giving us that book!
Mire2007-03-01 03:45:16
If a jeweler submitted a pendant design with the pendant being a functioning monocle or pair of eyeglasses, would it be accepted? Has anyone tried?
Aison2007-03-01 04:09:55
Interesting idea, Mire. Has anyone tried it?
Gandal2007-03-01 05:33:10
They should be made out of lucidian corpses

Yesh, massa! I lost my files, massa! They will be done with the books as fast as this here little faeling can flap her wings! -salute-
And no, Calico. I was most certainly not hitting on you. -thwap-
EDIT: wait...since when did I become Synl's slavedriver?! O.o I can't make him do anything...
Kamion2007-03-03 12:33:35
Give me glasses! We should definately put them in. Glasses would add a cool bit of RP to the world.

I know, but I guess I just have a thing for glasses on women
Unknown2007-03-18 16:26:58
What if glasses were designed as heirlooms instead of pendants?
Arix2007-03-18 20:44:36
I've always t hought about giving Arix an eyepatch, to distract from the massive scarring on the right side of his face. That eye is barely functional anyway
