Quite a wide variety of music really, tending towards bands with good/virtuoso guitarists, which I care more about than lyrics. Rock, the Blues (and blues/rock hybrid), Jazz Guitar, and Jam Bands tend to be a big favorite for me.
I'm obliged to list some of these since I haven't seen anybody else include them:
Gov't Mule, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Phish, Derek Trucks, are all pretty good. With Gov't Mule and String Cheese probably ranking among my favorite bands - though it makes me sad SCI is breaking up, hope I get the chance to see them in concert again before they do.
Don't really care to name off all the other bands I like, so I'll randomly say Smashing Pumpkins, The Doors, Clapton, Dave Matthews, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Cash, Radiohead, Leftover Salmon, The Decemberists, and Pink Floyd among others.

I'm belatedly adding Deathstars to my list >.>
I'm finding them entertaining.

I listen to pretty much anything...groups I can actually name would include The Fibonaccis, The Beatles, Oingo Boingo, S.H.E, Hikaru Utada, Yoko Kanno, Faye Wong, Danielle Dax...mostly my dad's 80's and 70's music. ^^

I find myself wondering why I'm responding to this as I write. I listen to rock mostly. Linkin park, Disturbed, Papa roach, Breaking Benjamin, Three days Grace, Korn, Metallica, and some other which I can't think of now. I don't like country. I used to like Hip Hop when I was younger but I find myself not liking it as much as I once did. I really really don't like Fergie or Gwen Stefani they irritate me for some strange reason.

Hmmm, well the best way I can imagine convey my rather eclectic tastes is list the playlist currently playing in my winamp.
1. Third Eye Blind - Jumper
2. Verve Pipe - The Freshman
3. Everlast - What It's Like
4. Collective Soul - World I Know
5. Better Than Ezra - Desperately Wanting
6. Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body
7. Justin Timberlake - My Love (4:36)
8. Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around-Comes Around
9. Kasabian - 02 - Shoot The Runner
10. Saosin - It's Far Better To Learn
11. Saosin - Bury Your Head
12. Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta
13. nelly furtado Say it right
14. Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
15. Pearl Jam - Jeremy
16. 30 Seconds To Mars - Attack
17. Blue Man Group - Shadows Part 2
18. E-40 - Do Ya Head Like This
19. Fall out boy - dance dance
20. NIN - Closer To God.mp3
21. Madonna - Get Together
22. ACDC - Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution
23. Pink Floyd - Money
24. Tool - 10,000 Days
25. ESHAM (Psychopathic Records) - Paper
That's just a hint really, I like a little bit of everything, mainstream or not. Particular mention to anyone that likes dance/techno type music is Madonna's latest album, I'm not really a big fan of her work usually(Though her accomplishments deserve recognition), but I really like the entire album. And I'm certainly not laughing at Viravain as far as Josh Groban, he has a downright amazing voice and like the music or not I don't think any human in their right mind can deny the guys gift as a singer.
My one, true love, what I couldn't live without is classic rock. Queen, ACDC, Led Zep, Lynyrd Skynyrd, down at the core I'll be giving a fist pump and saying rock and roll ain't noise pollution on my dying breathe.
I don't like: Country, especially Rascal Flatts. Though funnily enough the first album I ever owned was Billy Ray Cyrus debut effort. Can't stand Evanescence, Nickelback or Staind, and a lot of other bands that people that like those three usually partake.
All you people that are big on alternative/punk/emo type musics (I'm not calling them the same, don't burn me at the stake.) should check out Saosin if you're not familiar with them.
If you're down with the clown you're down with me.

ICP - Homies
RHCP - Snow
ICP - Nobody Move

Akon & Red Devil - Gunshot
Neptunes - You got to Move
Bubba Sparxx - Deliverance
Daft Punk - Around the World
Sandie Thorn - I wish I was a Punkrocker
Elephant Man - Pon de River, pon de Bank
Well, to explain above list:
ICP - Classic. Great for being aggro. Wicked Rappers delight and Nobody Move are genious, imho. Wicked Rappers Delights beat is one of the beast I heard in a LONG while, and nobody move is kinda hypnotizing.
Saliva - Click.Click. Boom. All I gotta say.
Bloc Party - Lead to a change in my life. Cool to the ground. Dislike their other songs.
RHCP - Was on their concert, and snow is a great song to rawk.
Cypress Hill - Nothing better to listen to when hanging out.
Wicked Squad - Local band, jungle. Never can stay still when listening to them. Generally the music I get smashed to. My favorite band right now, so great.
Akon - I don't know why, but that guy's just good.
Neptunes - Great Producers, and Pharell is a great rapper.
Bubba Sparxx - His Album Deliverance ranks HIGH up in my personal toplist. I liked all of the songs of it.
Daft Punk - Pure chill while driving.
Sandie Thorn - Love her voice, and her song kinda makes me melancholic.
Elephant Man - Whater Musicmix that is, he's great at it.
Well, for the rest, I kinda listen to everything. I have about 40 gigs of Music, so I guess I am not really certain about what I really like. ICP and Wickedsquad come damn close though.

I feel strange, reading about all these bands...
I can basically listen to anything, as long as it has a good beat, melody and lyrics. Some of the things I listen to:
3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Evanescence, Linkin Park (my first band... and will always stay my favourite), Dragonforce, Acceptance, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Alice Cooper, Nelly Furtado, Faith Hill... And many many more, but I have to check my RealPlayer list. I'll get back to you.

Hmmm.... by mood, you say?
Well, when I'm wistful/nostalgic, I'll listen to a lot of older country, because it's what I listened to with my mom before she died. Tanya Tucker, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton ... some newer people too, like Shania Twain, Faith Hill.
Then of course there's my angry, ranty moods. Therein is Evanescence, Hinder, Tatu ... uhm... that's about it at this point.
Sad moods are a mix, basically just a collection of sad love songs. It often ranges through pop, country, rock, some R&B. Whatever strikes me as being the right 'level' of angsty sadness at the moment.
Playful moods are ... well... Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, Nana Kitade, Faye Wong, Gackt, Malice Mizer, Ogata Megumi. I love being able to sing along with it and just have my friends stare at me.
If I'm in a 'meh, whatever' type mood, I'm generally listening to whatever my boyfriend plays and enjoying it. Gym Class Heroes, Hinder, Usher, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Phil Collins - he gets a pretty weird mix going too.
When I'm in a mood where I want to relax, it's generally stuff without words. Soundscapes, classical... I enjoy a lot of flute stuff.
Hanging out with friends... we generally go for old soundtracks. Stuff we can sing along with that's fun... like Lion King, Grease, Grease 2.
And before anyone else says it... yes, I'm weird.

I am very disappointed with the musical tastes of people in this thread. That being said, Viravain likes Lacuna Coil and that's a good thing. Don't know how she can like evanescence though after they basically sound like a generic, ripped off version of LC.
