Perhaps this is a bit off topic, and I really hate to ask this sort of question.
But I've already completed the Newton Caverns Savior of the Gnomes quest, I'm working vigilantely on the Fink's quest, and I've obtained the bucket and have it full of the jelly of doom and the 5 stones from the hogs in it. I was told to take the bucket to the trebuchet, which is the springnal where Fartokan is and I give it to Fartokan and he says he was told I was coming with it but doesn't know what to do with it and gives it back. I've tried giving the bucket to everyone in Lollipin, and all the Fink mobs in Newton, I've also tried giving Fartokan the scroll of seige weapons, and I've tried pushing the big rock down to his level to see if it made a difference, and then further pushed the rock off and I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. I know it's supposed to be hard and I've struggled to get this far and let alone keep myself under level 20 to do all these but I'm just stumped, stuck and have no idea what to do. I know the area basically like the back of my hand, so could someone please just point me in the right direction so I can figure this out. I'm so close I can taste it and if I give up now I'll never be able to not regret it. >.<

Mess around with the trebuchet.
You're almost there!
You're almost there!

Mess around? Hmm, I've been trying to put the bucket on it, push it, pull it, tried to push the rock onto it.. I don't see anything in concerns to basecommands scroll to give me an idea.. Rest assured I'll continue to mess with this blasted thing.. but currently I'm going to kill myself and let my soul drain so I don't outlevel newton because my bucket has decayed...
Vix2007-02-03 20:52:04
Have you tried targetting something more specific than "trebuchet"?
Richter2007-02-03 21:55:57
Lucky you. Three days ago, I did the quest, and I got as far as getting the bucket full, but I couldn't figure out how to go to the top of the mountain, and so the bucket popped on me.

Why do the Newton quests sound harder than practically every other honours quest out there?

Cause they pretty much are?
Acrune2007-02-04 04:25:42
Really? I figured those two out, but haven't had much luck with much else.
Vix2007-02-04 04:30:40
Newton just involves a large amount of running around - going from the Caverns to Lolliprin, back to the Caverns, back to Lolliprin, to Smoke Mountain, down Smoke Mountain, up Smoke Mountain, etc.
Aison2007-02-04 04:44:31
It was too much effort and running around for me to bother doing those gnome/fink quests.
Zalandrus2007-02-04 18:20:39
The novice quests are difficult in that they require a LOT of going back and forth and back and forth between all the areas...and actually, there are a -lot- of parts where there's a lot of ambiguity in what you have to do next. A lot of normal quests are fairly straightforward (do this and this to get a hint, then use the hints and some logic to figure out the end).
I remember hearing once that the hermit tarot was a novice's best friend in solving these quests. That is absolutely 100% true

Otoh, kicking off your Lusternia experience by detonating a WMD over a pitched battlefield will surely be a massive draw, in that it really separates Lusternia's philosophy from absolutely every other IRE game. Which is why I fanatically completed that quest!

Well, I've completed both now and they were both amusing a tad contrived and hard to understand in where they were attempting to lead you at times. But overall very rewarding, I assume most novices don't have the drive or care to complete them.. But eh.. I definitely agree with the post above. Mad fun, I even spent some time launching rocks at the gnomes for general purpose of amusing myself. I just hate that I had to come here as well as ask around on the game to get further hints to figuring out the last bit.
The only problem was in controlling and dealing with the springnal itself everything else I did fine on my own, even though it's not entirely correct to call it so, the whole controlling of the springnal in the syntaxes used seemed a bit non-intuitive -until- I figured them out.
Anyways, great fun, great way to kick off the Lusternia experience in general fun in figuring it out and also the feeling of having accomplished something worthwhile rather then the drab routine of bashing your way to 21.

Once you hit 21, Toronada has a really fun quest for near-newbies. Just be sure to have some health vials, cause crabs are vicious little suckers.
Gandal2007-02-04 22:23:02
I never got or understood that quest...

Completing them before level 10 is also helpful since you can take advantage of the unlimited PORTALS, but not many people can do it since it takes the normal non-alt novice a while to figure them out.

How bad is it considered to ask for hints on these quests, I know that in general it's frowned upon, but these are newbie quests and I keep getting stuck with half an idea, but no where clue where to go to the point I'm now trying to go every direction from every room in the entire area, so if I could ask for small clues it'd help, but at the same time I don't wish to break the rules.

One thing i'm thankful for, i never did any newton caverns, i bashed glomdoring forest during my nubcake times
Acrune2007-11-11 17:07:13
If there is a guide around, ask them or ask on the newbie channel for a hint and sometimes you'll get a nudge in the right direction.

You missed out. 20,000 gold in Newton paid for a lot of newbie warrior equipment.
