Currently we can browse under the following criteria:
Syntax to browse an annex:
BROWSE ALL
BROWSE
BROWSE ACCESS
BROWSE
BROWSE LIST
I'd like to see us able to browse by publishing organisation as well. That would make Librarians' lives ever so much easier when it comes to choosing prestige publications.
Thanks.

I think there was a subject librarians could file under (e.g. PUB-MAG, PUB-GLOM), but seems some librarians are getting lazy and not including that subject.

Ooh.
At first I expected to see something annoying that would make it more like Imperian and take away from what I see as the coolness of lusternia's library system.
But I should have had faith.
I agree!
It'd also be cool if we could combine categories, like... BROWSE SCHOLARLY AUTHOR VIONNE ... (if we can under another syntax, I apologize).
EDIT - and filing under the subject "glomdoring" seems to me to imply that the work would have to be ABOUT "Glomdoring" and PubGlomdoring seems sorta forced :/ it's a stopgap maneuver that we shouldn't have to do.

When I started up as the librarian of New Celest, first thing I did was slog through all the holdings and manually add tags to them: LITERARY-CELEST, LITERARY-GLOMDORING, ..., SCHOLARLY-SERENWILDE. Once the initial labor was done, it's easy now to tag all new publications. So that gets the effect you want with a one-time cost of effort and minimal upkeep. Our library also has separate categories NEW-CELEST, GLOMDORING-FOREST, MAGNAGORA-DOMINION (I think), and SERENWILDE-COLLECTIVE, in which books -about- those orgs are placed, as Vionne mentioned.
Remember too that you can BROWSE on pieces of subject names (I never type BROWSE SUBJECT LITERARY-CELEST, but only BROWSE SUBJECT RY-C, for example), and it'll combine everything it finds (for example, BROWSE SUBJECT Y-GLOM will pick out both LITERARY-GLOMDORING and SCHOLARLY-GLOMDORING books, but not those in the GLOMDORING-FOREST category).
Suppose it would be nice to have it coded (would've been nicer before I did the work!) - but hey, it's something you can use library aides for, and that's in short supply....

That's quite a good idea, actually. I could just find an aide, create some new subject key words and make him/her file em all (damned if I'm doing all that myself). Okay then. Problem solved.

I make them write books and compose reviews of recently published books for the new spiffy Magnagoran Literary Journal. But they're lazy and need whipping.

QUERY!
How many people who aren't you and your aides are going to use a subject that isn't that intuitive, or wade through whatever command it is that shows all of the categories and notice PubGlomdoring?
I'd utterly love to have something that shows the cut-off point between what stuff is past the review period, too.

Don't really see what's so unintuitive about SCHOLARLY-GLOMDORING ... and if the library ministry's been doing their job, the list of all categories (BROWSE LIST shows em) will be compact and tidy. New Celest's fits onto 13 lines.
Vionne2007-02-09 07:16:18
Intuitively, if I say "scholarlyglomdoring" or "glomdoring" or any such like, I want "glomdoring" to be the SUBJECT. As in, actually the topic of the text.
I'm not going to intuitively go "oh, gee, I want to see what books were published by glomdoring, let me do SUBJECT glomdoring"
but perhaps I am not in line with the common person here.

Actually, I quite prefer the idea Aiakon gave. You can see which organisation published the book when you LIBRARY AUDIT PUBLISHING, why not allow for you to browse by organisation?
Edit: Looking at the commands again, I think it was actually intended to be this way. Look at this.
BROWSE PUBLISHER GLOMDORING
Books Found: 0

**Prestige *Prestige (In Review)
***Prestige Winner
If I do BROWSE PUBLISHER
There is no such publisher.
Perhaps it hasn't been fully implemented? Or am I missing something about BROWSE PUBLISHER?
Editedit:
Hrm. It depends on who you intend BROWSE to be for. If it is for the non-librarian, more subjects would be helpful, as they can search for books much easily. If you intend it as a tool for librarian, then yes, less is better.
For that matter, Glomdoring has 687 subjects as of now, after I cleaned it of spelling errors and repeated subjects. And that really makes it easy to look for any book you want. But for me, its a killer to clean up.
And yes, I agree with Vionne. Its not intuitive, because its intended for commune-mates to search for. If I, a non-librarian, LIBRARY INFO a book and see SCHOLARLY-GLOMDORING, I will assume it to be about scholars in Glomdoring.
