Constructs and Colossi

Back to Common Grounds.

I've been mulling around in my head the thought of constructs. Specifically the reasoning for an organization to put up a construct. These are very expensive structures and the risk an organization opens themselves up to by constructing one is large. So in order for it to be worth the costs and risks, the benefits have to outweigh them. Which leads to the potential for very unbalancing construct affects. And even then, if you build a construct and it gets torn down several times, are you going to keep building it?

But what if the cost wasn't so high? What if all the constructs started as small, relatively inexpensive (around a quarter or less of what they cost now) structures that had some small, but useful benefit. As suggested before, if they got torn down, they would drop an item that could be used to upgrade other constructs. The upgrade would cost some power, gold, comms, plus the upgrade item. The upgrade items would have specific classifications like an etheral upgrade, an elemental upgrade, etc. and each construct would be able to have a maximum of four upgrades and only one of each classification.

Once a construct is upgraded, if it is "destroyed" it is actually torn down to the level it was prior to the upgrade and drops whatever upgrade item it just lost. When upgraded, the benefits of a construct increase until at its highest level it has some of the more outlandish suggestions people have come up with to match lich.

In addition, as Genevieve suggested, organizations would be able to purchase guardian constructs which would be very, very expensive and they could have only one. You have to get rid of the guardian before you can attack the construct itself and the guardian cannot be reconstructed until perhaps two weakenings have gone by.

It feels like a system that progresses along in such a way would lessen the risk somewhat for the construct owners while not taking away from the benefits possible for the attackers. It would involve somewhat more strategy in determining which constructs to upgrade, which one to protect, which to attack (the one that will drop the upgrade you need or the one that is giving your enemies that benefit that you really wish would go away). It also would alleviate the almost necessary overpoweredness of constructs by having the option to achieve a very powerful construct but not just giving it as soon as the power minister gets around to building it.

I believe you already have to wait a year before you can reraise a construct.

Buff trill! give 'em a racial language!

No. It's been like that too long.. people have RPed round it for too long. It would kill immersion.

A very interesting idea. I like it.

It could be explained by some kind of event easily enough. Maybe something involving Isune. If they wanted, they could even talk to trill players to find out what they've done and then incorporate it into said event. If done well, it could enhance that roleplay, not obviate it. In fact that's precisely the kind of event I'd've been running if I had become an Ascended God.

An event would be great. A phantom change would not.

Trill racial language = Common. Why are trills so against taking up that angle? tongue.gif

Merianation Construct - Grants all Celestians the ability to dive and to breathe underwater, level 1 health and mana regeneration while in water, ability to swim and tread water without taking damage. Grants Merians level 3 health and mana regeneration while in water, and changes fire and electrical susceptibility to level 1.

Alternatively.. No?

I think that's a more reasonable construct than the Black crypt was. However, we've been told to throw all ideas we have into the arena.
Estarra2007-03-10 19:12:32
Catarin always has good ideas!

However, redesigning constructs with "upgrades" is well beyond the scope of what we can do at this time. I'm also not fond of a "guardian" construct idea (at least not how currently presented).

At this point in time, we want to polish the system we have now.

Moon Altar?!! NOOO
*sniffle* I wonder what this does though. I hope we get the celestian one soon!

I suppose this finally proves that Stag isn't important and the Moondancers run Serenwilde.

Don't even remind me. Me, Alianna and Amavan found the place and were told to hold off on explore. sad.gif
Xenthos2007-03-11 03:31:28
The construct, for the benefits it gives, should probably take about half the power/gold per month (it seems to be less powerful than the free immolation/+25% exp construct for Serenwilde).

Don't get me wrong, it's interesting / useful stuff... just not quite worth the cost. happy.gif

Either that, or give Drawdown buffs.

Judging by the series of stupid messages he's sending me ("mapping ur rooms" etc. in all caps) I think he's already found it.

Hopefully Moonchilde lasts through death/logout...
