Beam Changes

Back to Ideas.

Since Moonbeam has been re-worked so that it's now almost completely useless (slow local area teleport for no power woo?), perhaps it's time for a revamp. We need to post ideas!

My idea (subject to change and merciless tearing-apart):

Moonbeam (4p, Moonhart Mother Tree)
Syntax:
MOONBEAM (person)
MOONBEAM REFLECT
MOONBEAM DANCE

The moon's beams can illuminate any area, bringing the caster's presence closer to the location. When cast on an outdoors target within the local area, a beam of light will illuminate the room the target is in. While the room is illuminated, the caster may cast any Moon spell as if he was in the room. Additionally, the caster may reflect an image of the room back to him and dance along the beam to quickly travel to the room. The beam will fade after a short period of time, and will fade immediately if the caster leaves the room.

This will have a fairly long (6-8 sec) equilibrium time for setup, and will essentially treat any person in the targetted room as in the same room as the caster while casting Moon spells. It has very minimal use in solo combat, as it's really easy to move away from the room with the beam in it, so it would require a group to be able to make use of it. Yes, this is essentially a smaller, more limited version of Rage, but I think it's different enough to be useful. Please note that the dancing still doesn't work on a monolith.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea in and of itself, but I got the impression from speaking to a couple of the envoys that we were supposed to just "update" the original skill, so presumably that would entail preserving its fundamental functionality rather than doing something new like this.

I could be wrong though.

Since the functionality is movement, then why not make it a portal-type (or temporary mystic pathway) skill, you set up a moonbeam, which lasts X time(until the next new moon, or until the next sunrise, maybe both forms, with the longer one taking power), and which only moondancers can dance along but both ways.
Unknown2007-02-12 16:16:53
If we have to keep the whole transportation-only thing, then that works. How about setup take fairly long equilibrium (or have a delay) but dancing along it takes a very short time?

Set-up would need to take 1-2 minutes of sitting there, for the moon users on both ends, afterwards usage would be comparable to transversing, I'd say, instant with a few seconds of eq recovery on the other end. The Moonbeam would also be clearly visible in both rooms to all. Though only useable by Moondancers and serenguard with moon.

I don't see how anyone could object to this being overpowered (though maybe underpowered) in it's strictly limited though unique usage. I would imagine it most used in serenwilde prime, just because that's one of the largest areas with a high traffic of Moon followers. It also would retain the new inability to enter shop rooms because the shop keeper themself would need to be a moon user and stupid enough to help form the link.

The skill can be returned to its original functionality, but given the restriction "outdoors only."

The skill can be changed to be some other form of a transport skill.

The skill can be entirely replaced.

The skill can be kept as it now is.

It's up to Laysus and Hiriako what they wish to suggest, and the rest of the Envoys as to what they will agree to. If you have strong opinions on the subject, speak with Laysus or Hiriako, as I will be shortly.

This was actually briefly mentioned as feasible, though I kinda perfer just making it it's old functionality, but outdoors only, since this suggestion is too close to my newest pathtwist suggestion dry.gif

I was thinking of changing it to work like starleaper mayhaps, or something similar.

Holy~!

Moonbeam finally got the nerf brickbat it deserved?!

Someone hold me back, I'm going to log on!

Moonbeam got nerfed? I can't log in, I'm at work. Somebody post it here so I can read it, please? Pretty please?

Basically it doesn't go through monoliths anymore. Which makes it a local-area only, very slow, no power costing teleport - or in other words (almost) useless.. unless you can't afford the 3p or want to dance stylishly into the room.

EDIT: Which means it's time to make it into something cool!
Ildaudid2007-02-12 18:22:45
Take advantage of this and make it your rezz skill, don't worry about losing the beam, take the ingredients they gave you and make it into a cake, err so to speak. A better rezz/lich skill that works only at night to cast it, and gives increased benifits to stats or something, go that route?

Or make it like sacraments rezz, so you can rezz souls, think outside of the travelling box, and make moonbeam nice. They gave you the chance to get something for your skillset that you may want or need, take advantage of that.
Unknown2007-02-12 18:45:23
We already have a Rezz skill. It's called Resurgem.

You mean that crappy one that takes 5 people and a body to use? Get a real one. Like I said, its in your hands, you can make moon kick ass, or whine about not being able to teleport to people. It's that simple, just think outside of the box, and let your envoys know.
Unknown2007-02-12 19:25:43
Not rezz, a starleaper like skill, except it moves you if your mana falls too low not health. Die fae + choke + succumb halo.gif

EDIT: On a more serious note, I'd be for a revamp of the skill. Having another offensive skill in moon would certainly not hurt.
Laysus2007-02-12 20:11:47
You know, PMing these to the relevant envoys would be nice :)
Unknown2007-02-12 21:06:42
Make it into Chaos Rays freaked.gif
Laysus2007-02-12 21:08:26
O.o

*envoys that*
Unknown2007-02-12 22:34:24
Fine, fine, PM away, even though you've already seen it.
Adee2007-02-12 22:39:28
There's also the posibility that it would be made to work like the druid gateways in other realms, I think that Wesmin hit on. -shrug- It's something to think about.
