I'm impressed. I found one online quiz that is really good.

SW- You would feel most at home in the Southwest region You advocate a large degree of personal freedom and a large degree of government control over the economy. Your neighbors include such folks as Jesse Jackson, Ralph Nader, Hillary Clinton, and Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine, and may refer to themselves as "liberals," "left-wing liberals," "civil libertarians," "democratic socialists," "egalitarians," or "anarcho-socialists."

I like the term socialist libertarian chin.gif

West-You are a Westerner-a civil libertarian-which means that you advocate a diminished role for the government in the personal realm. You are more or less pleased the government's role in the economic realm.

ETA: There are many many versions of this in the Internet.

ETA: A shorter Nolan Chart quiz: http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html

Centerville-You would feel most at home in Centerville, which means that you are more or less pleased the status quo-you think the US government has just about the right amount of control over your economic and personal decisions. Your neighbors include democratic and republican party leaders and others who call themselves "moderates" and "centrists."

The map sticks me very mildly towards the northwest.

EDIT: Veri's quiz just labels me as a different kind of centrist--extreme left edge of the inner box, about halfway between the middle and the top.

SE- You would feel most at home in the Southeast region. You advocate a large degree of government control over both economic and personal affairs. Your neighbors include FDR, Pat Buchanan, Adolf Hitler, and Josef Stalin, and may refer to themselves to as "communitarians," "authoritarians," "traditionalists," "fascists," or "communists."

chin.gif Interesting.

Fascists. GET THEM!

(The Nolan chart is somewhat biased, however - It was made more or less to be a tool in advocating Libertarianism.)

NW-You would feel most at home in the Northwest region. You advocate a large degree of economic and personal freedom. Your neighbors include folks like Ayn Rand, Jesse Ventura, Milton Friedman, and Drew Carey, and may refer to themselves as "classical liberals," "libertarians," "market liberals," "old whigs," "objectivists," "propertarians," "agorists," or "anarcho-capitalist."
Daganev2007-02-13 04:22:13
havn't taken the poll yet, but based on the outcomes here it seems they are both fairly biased. Not that unusual for the internet though.

And Verithrax, I took that poll for my AP gov class. It was SO clear that the questions were worded to make the libertarian position sound most appealing. If you analyze each answer on your own thinking it through, then it won't be very biased, but if you just read it once and say... hrm, that looks right, you're likely gonna find yourself leaning to less regulation social or economic, depending on your position, or if neither if you're a crazy libertarian.

edit - GO GO socialist medical system in the US! GO GO making pharmecutical companies not charge 100x the cost of making a simple pill, and keeping a patent on it for so long that you have to pay that much for it.!! (insert non religious smile)

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

CENTRIST

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 50%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 50%.

I got centerville.
Iridiel2007-02-13 11:14:22
Am I alone as southerner?
"South-You are a Southerner-an egalitarian-which means that you advocate an increased role for the government in the economic realm. You are more or less pleased the government's role in the personal realm."

I'm SW. About where I'd expect to be, actually... but I don't like that quiz - it presupposes a level of knowledge about American policy decisions which I don't have. I'll take Veri's just as soon as it lets me - the website is being slow.
Kharaen2007-02-13 12:35:02

On a scale like that, Europe is going to land southwest of America. If you're southwest based on the standards of European socialism, you're just pushing farther to that extreme.

I don't think it matters what the existing system is. That poll is going to measure you relative to what you perceive to be the status quo.

Except that I wasn't answering to what I perceived to be the status quo, but to what I imagine the American status quo to be.
