Speedwalking Map!

This map was created using the IMapper program, developed by Whyte, which is freely downloadble over here.

Basically, I've made a map of all of Lusternia that I know of and am able to access using IMapper. The map is able to do quite a few things.

-Speedwalk (incredibly fast, I might add) to a location of your choosing. It also automatically takes advantage of any movement bonuses you may have like sandals or stagform.
-Find a location's area and its place on the map from a room name.
-Display a map of a given area.
-Keep track of your movement and allow you to find a path out of any area that is mapped so that you never, ever, get lost.
-Numerous pre-programmed tags for the names of areas, allowing you to just type the name of the area instead of figuring out the room numbers.
-Works for ALL CLIENTS (all clients that you can set connection options for, that is, which sadly discludes Nexus).

It's a fantastic tool for those people who always seem to get lost in confusing areas like forests - I used to do that too. Here, for instance, is a map of the part of Glomdoring that's around me that I render by simply typing "map" while standing at the Master Ravenwood.

Additionally, I can click on any of those rooms to go there.

Now, let's say I'm at the Ravenwood and want to get to Paavik. Easy! Since there's already a tag built in by me for Paavik, I type "map path paavik", and I get...



Then I type "go" and I'm speedwalking on my way.

The map has almost every publicly accessible area I know of - and that's pretty close to all of them, since I'm ranked fourth on explorers - including all the aetherbubbles, all the planes including astral, the entire Undervault, all ten villages, all the cities/communes (I made alts to map Mag and Serenwilde), etc. There are only a few areas I know of that are missing - mainly these are areas that are simply unmappable and would be useless even if they were mapped because of how IMap uses room names (Inner Sea, Sea of Despair - though I do have places like the kelpie shoals and the isle of light mapped). It also does not have most guildhalls, though it has a couple.

The whole thing is only a measly 20 credits. If you're interested, send me a tell or a message or a PM. It comes with support and free updates for as long as I'm playing Lusternia. I will also help you add your manses, show you how to make the speedwalker use your manses to get to places faster, help with configurations, etc.

(By the way, IMapper was originally made by Whyte on Imperian. This map isn't endorsed or supported by him, though he said he was okay with me selling it.)

Whyte's mapper is covered by the GNU General Public License. Anyone you distribute it to may redistribute it freely to whomever they want, whenever they want. Furthermore, you are required to notify them of this fact when you distribute it.

Also, is the Map really YOUR map, or are you just profiting off the work of Elryn (who originally adapted Whyte's mapper for Lusternia), and the other group of people who originally created the map? In fact, if I remember right, it originally was supported by Lusternia and called "Project L" or something with it's own private subforum on these forums. Actually the subforum is still there, just inactive.

Actually, it doesn't, according to Whyte, being as it's content generated from the IMapper and isn't part of mudbot or anything. And I'm assuming people wouldn't be jackassish enough to distribute it to others (I mean, it's not as if I could stop them from doing it anyway).

Yes, this is my map and is completely original, made from scratch. I wasn't even aware that there was another Lusternian IMap until someone else mentioned it to me. From looking at the list of areas in the topic my map is also much more up-to-date and complete.

I want but I don't understand...
Who, what, where was/is Whyte/Imapper? I googled it and didn't find free MUD mapping... Explain more, then patiently wait for me to pay Folken back my last bit of credits, then wait for me to get 20 more...

Can it go to specific rooms? IE: map path buble over oblivion (or whatever it's called) and then I speedwalk there, or does it only know general areas?

Ibot is seperate from a mud client, but it's still a mapping system (ASCII maps rather then graphical). Furthermore, it is equipped with a really convenient speedwalker. When you do WHO (with third eye) it'll show you the area of where the person is. You can speedwalk to anywhere (with swimming taken in mind) just with a MAP PATH (room's number), then GO. So if you were in the Skarch Desert and you wanted to go to the Moonhart Mother walking, you could just map a path there and go, and you'd be on your way.

I believe some Ibot systems have farsight/scry/window amenities where, if you have the map open, you can see where they are in relation to you on the same map.

Meh, now I'm tempted to get this.

EDIT: And Whyte is the creator of Ibot, so you'll usually see his name in reference to an Ibot system.

IMapper/MudBot/etc are available through SourceForge. The official web site (which is now a wiki, apparently) is http://imts.sf.net. It's not for the faint of heart, in my opinion, so good luck! smile.gif

Basically IMapper is a program made by Whyte to go with the program Mudbot. It's originally made for Imperian but works pretty well with Lusternia, though I need to try and make some code modifications for it to get certain things to work (like elevations).

Yes, it can go to specific rooms if you find their numbers, ie room find bubble over oblivion and then map path to the number it gives you. You can also tag rooms with special names so you don't have to look up the number every time and you could just type map path bubble.

Was going through the forum and I thought I'd mention that according to the license it's illegal to charge people for Imap stuff. I'm willing to give a free version of Imap to anyone who wants it that may not have as many rooms as his, but has most of the world, and adding rooms isn't hard. I also doubt Shammarah has fixed the error with the cows and balance loss, since he would have had to go into the source file and read the GNU to do that.

I actually talked to Whyte about this and he was fine with it.

No, I haven't fixed the errors as I don't know C.

Actually, it's perfectly fine to charge for the completed IMAP file. The balance thing is moot, you can fix it with a single multi-state trigger since mudbot reports text to zmud and you can trigger off of it. Anyone can get the free IMAP file, it's on Burning IRE or whatever that site is. Shamarah's IMAP on the other hand is a Brydian-quality Lusternian map, IE: Complete (including astral and arenas). Saying he probably has more rooms is a monstrous understatement.

Does this map include all the correct terrain types for rooms? I'm a bit of a stickler for terrains, being an herbalist and just liking my maps to have all the pretty colors.

Do special exits work well when needed? I know they're possible in this mapper, but they can be a bit tricky to get linked both ways properly sometimes.

Do you have messages for the teleport abilities (cubix, teleport nexus, etc) setup in the map file?

I can fix the C code myself, but I'd rather not take months to map out all the rooms in a new mapper setup. smile.gif

Try that out and you will see you're wrong. The rooms that make up the highways are too similar for just looking after you bump into a cow to update your location correctly after it gets lost. That said, my sourceforge project was approved, so I've already loaded the mapper with the cow fix. If someone really wants to pay 20 credits for Shamarah's map, eh, I can't stop them. But you should at least use a version of mudbot that won't panic in the event of cow tipping.

On a side note, I didn't know sourceforge required unix shell uploading. Anyone have suggestions on where I can host my stuff? unsure.gif

I've modified Whyte's code myself to handle trees, flying, etc in Lusternia (it's a difference in where the coloring occurs and the capitalization of the room title). I've made a few other little changes in the behavior, though I can't remember exactly what off the top of my head, except for the ATCP stuff. I plan to modify all the tracking code that shows you area/vnum when you scry/scent/etc, too. My changes are minor so far, not warranting a separate SF project or anything, but anyone interested in the code can e-mail me about it.
