I'm going to point at Greg Costikyan's new website/commercial venture, Manifesto Games, which he has been touting as the solution to all manner of problems in the gaming industry by showing off 'indie' games. The website sells those games as a direct download (With price ranges varying from nothing to 40 USD and file sizes from 3M to 3G). Most games also give you a playable demo and many are very, very entertaining; it even lists a text-based MMO category (Which right now only includes the Skotos games).
