Yes, Lusty does get repetative if you're narrowly focused on combat or bashing, but the one thing that always keeps me coming back in the player interaction (which is easy, because I'm a GM... if I was a novice, things might be different).

To me, Imperian administration has a different way of dealing with people and introducing new stuff in teh game, that to my tastes makes it a nicer place to be than Lusternia. I'll repeat, to my tastes. They seem to be more into balancing things and focusing on what players want done (it might be that what they want done is the same as players want done). The fact that there seems to be more people around in all the guilds also helps, like you don't feel alone in gt even if you're not in a prime hour. That migth be solved with having less guilds/orgs but it's too late for that, or maybe it's just that having so many planes makes the population seem dilluted. In exchange, you have a bigger world to explore in Lusternia, specially if you have a ship.
I'm afraid I've experienced the complete opposite of what you have in terms of there usually being someone around in Imperian. A couple of months back, I made a Khandavan character, and for a vast amount of the time I spent on that character, I was the only member of the forest, let alone the guild, that was online. It was very depressing.
QUOTE(Estarra @ Feb 28 2007, 03:19 PM) 386924
I've asked what players want before, and 99% of the answers were to "balance" skills (with specific suggestions on how this could be achieved) and adding new areas. We are always in the process of balancing per our ongoing envoy process (which I think is working better than I had thought!). And new areas also are ongoing, though this is something that takes time and can't be rushed. But certainly I believe we've implemented new ideas and systems spurred by player ideas and suggestions, like the nexus worlds and construct battles I believe were originally player inspired to reduce raids and give goals to conflicts--and as you know we've done a lot of work with this and we aren't finished yet!
On this note, I'm pretty sure almost all the other IRE games, or at least Imperian and Achaea, have implemented something almost identical to our envoy system since we got it! That has got to be a good sign.
And now, Lady Estarra, You must sue their asses.

Friends leaving? Make new ones. You have to come to terms and accept that in a game of this sort people come and go. It happens, and you need to learn to move on and make new friends or I don't really think it's the right game for you as far as friends/culture of it goes. The same applies to any online RPG type game really.
And I would say it's more difficult to make acquaintances and friends as a newer player, but that's to be expected to a degree. Though there's a few of my same 'age group' for lack of a better term in game that I've come to know and enjoy being around somewhat. But really, IC and player wise, I'm wholly focused on my training to become a full knight of the Paladins and it doesn't really leave a whole lot of room for conversing and making friends for me and the way I'm doing things and I think that's partially true for a lot of new players/characters. Granted, I'm glad to know that pretty soon I'll be presented with Squire tasks that involve me engaging myself with full Knights of the guild for discussion and such, so that'll be a nice change of pace and I'm certain some sort of ties and bond of at least cordial 'friendship' will come from it somewhere as I get closer to Knighthood.
I guess I'm just saying I've come to accept the natural progression of finding friends and acquaintances in this sort of game. Though in that thought, I think whenever the administration could do so changes to enforce teamwork outside of player vs player combat would be great. Make bashing as a group seem more worthwhile in some way, two birds one stone, makes the act of hunting itself less monotonous and boring as you've a friend with you to chat with and it opens up different tactics at times to make it more fun. And just spending time together, experiencing follies together and such will inevitably lead to new bonds and people becoming closer I think. Aside from, "Hey d00d, lets go beat up on some Magnagoran crap in Nil" (Paraphrasing honestly) there's not a whole lot of 'group' activities for people to do together. Bashing in particular seems like anytime I keep someone with me they're just slowing me down and vice versa likely, shouldn't feel that way.

Sometimes people just go inactive, because Lusternia is a very in depth game and people have very in depth lives. School, family, work, social life... Lusternia is a game, and sometimes people put down the controller when they have other stuff to do.

When I tried Imperian for the first time about 2 years ago, it wasn't during prime hours and I was the only person around in the guild. While I wasn't new to IRE games (I still played Achaea), Imperian was completely different mechanics for me and after trying to do some familiar-but-not-existent-in-Imperian Achaean commands, I got frustrated and left. I imagine this is how it is for a lot of other people, especially new ones to IRE games.
I also tried Achaea once before I actually made a "sticking" character because the game mechanics frustrated me then. The only reason I stuck around the second time is because I had a real life friend who played Achaea and helped me out while standing next to me. (I remember not remembering how to speak on newbie channel or how to take things from my pack, or probe my pack.)
For me, the reason why I stuck to Lusternia is because it was recommended by a previous Achaean who said the game was better in general but "you have to get into it". I think one of the biggest reasons why I decided to switch for good is because the RP given to my character through the Celestines and the overall atmosphere in Celest; it was attracting and refreshing.
However, that said aside, had I been a true newbie and not an experienced IRE player, I think I would have quit after a few days of playing. Not because it's a bad game, but because Lusternia is not as newbie-friendly as Achaea is. There was one question I asked a guide, a very simple newbie question, and they couldn't/didn't answer it correctly. I gave up asking questions on newbie and directly to guides because they weren't very quick with answering. I do understand first-hand that you can't always answer every question every newbie has, but I was basically the only active newbie around at the time. That was frustrating, even though I'm already experienced in IRE games. No bash onto Lusternia or the guide, but guides should be able to answer questions related to Newton Caverns and the quests in Lolliprin or at least drop some hints if giving out newbie quest info isn't allowed (which it is in Achaea, as they have an entire help file dedicated to leading newbies through newbie quests in those areas). They should know the newbie areas and quests inside out, in my opinion.
For all the IRE games, Achaea excels the most at giving newbies what they need to survive. They take guiding very seriously and try to keep a guide up at all times, even if it's just that one newbie asking a question. As someone already said, it's not the problem where Lusternia is losing older players, it's just not keeping new ones.
My solution is that Lusternia needs to pick up some slack and hire more guides to be more interactive with newbies who ARE around, even if it's just a few. When there's no one in a guild to help a newbie, the newbie is going to turn to the newbie channel, and if there's no one there to help them (when they are told that the newbie channel is the last resort and you should use it), they're going to get frustrated and leave. Some will come back, but obviously, most won't.
For experienced Lusternian players and people who stick around -- Lusternia is great for that. Great for people who know what they are doing and so much fun. But the getting started and giving newbies the attention they need is lacking and really needs some work. Please hire more guides! I think I've seen the guides around about four times since I started playing, and even then not for too long.

Achaea has a classlead system. Not as effective, but that's thanks to autoclass, which is a mess.

Wow, this is a great show of, "How far can I stick my nose in someone's ass, and praise them."
I am sure Estarra won't smite you for not agreeing to everything they say. They need constructive criticism. So please leave the ass kissing to when you are alone at some shrine. Sheesh.
Lusternia is great, just needs some more things, some which they are working on, some which the really need to look into. Warriors actually having a choice other than wounding would be one that should be looked into, for example.
Anyways.... I understand Airees feelings. Some idiot made a post in our Council stating that no pets should be left at the megalith. I left them a message letting them no what would happen to them if my pet was killed. These are just some of the stupid things that are slipping through the cracks in Magnagora, and for all its worth, it does get frustrating, which is why I am considering leaving the only city I have ever been in. For now, yes I do play imperian some, not fully yet. But if I find they skills more dynamic than they are here (in that I mean if I think I have more options as a warrior style class, which I love, I may move over there. But if the PvP lacks then no, I enjoy PvP alot. Not Org vs Player, but PvP.
Guess only time will tell. But monotony tends to wear you down and make things boring.

I think that the admins are forced to make small additions over a long time because you will get many other problems.

New"We should Be able to make a special zap to stop the other Cities/Communes!"

First off, I wasn't ass kissing. I was giving me geniune experience with the game and suggestions for people who feel bored with it. If I want to praise people, most of whom volunteer to do a crap load of work which produces something I enjoy, I will damn well do it.
The second part about Estarra breaking knees was a joke, in response to another joke about one IRE game suing another IRE game over the Envoy system. Too bad we don't appreciate humor on the forums unless its a giant picture of a cat with witty text MS painted onto it.
