I'll have to get a camera to take photographs of mine. I have two 3/4 sleeves of sheet music - from a fiddle piece I wrote. I also have (although they have become rather popular so I've seen) F-holes on my lower back (don't comment on the off thought there - they're the holes on violins, violas, cellos, and bass' that let the sound-post breathe through), And on the tops of my feet - left foot "Caillte" and the right foot "Riamh" - gaelic for roughly "Always lost" - and I'll be getting "taisgeal" which is gaelic for, again, roughly, "Finding that which was lost."
Hmm..yes. I'm a painted pincussion, so some of my friends (hopefully) affectionatelly call me.

I'll describe mine a little more. My pentagram's circle is made up by two crescent moons. They point inwardly to create, obviously, the circle that completes the pentagram, but their shading represent both the full and new moons. Anyone familiar with the Triple Goddess symbol can go ahead and note the obvious similarities; the unaltered symbol would have been too wide for my little wrist, so I moved a few things around.
The roses flanking that symbol are more decorative than anything, but their universally accepted meaning is intact. No matter the color, a rose represents a strong sense of passion, so to have them featured throughout my designs (which they are- all of my tattoos have roses involved somehow) is just an extra, added tribute to the passion of the main design. In this particular piece, they're black and white to match the new and full moons and are united by a spider's web. The web is just another symbol of connection and beauty.
Another note- I think I'm going to string a few more lines from the web to the pentagram. It looks a little bizarre to have only one line stretching from the primary web to the bottom of the green crescent.

They hurt.
I might get one done someday, though, once I get over the panic to it hurting. Probably somewhere on my upper back or shoulders. Been thinking about it the past 10 years so...

Yes, they can hurt a bit. I seem to have tough skin, or something of the sort, so mine never hurt too badly when I was getting them. Just a sting.
But, if you're worried about the pain - you can help control that with where you get a tattoo. Ribcage/sides will be hell, while upper arms and shoulder blades won't be quite so bad in comparison.
But, at the same time, your lower back would also be sensitive to it.

Missed this thread before and saw it scrolling back for the What I am reading thread.
I have only two thus far. A blue-grey Celtic Cross and a raven I have affectionately dubbed Huginn. Another raven named Muninn will be following eventually ( I am very picky about designs). Some time after if I can find designs I like I will be getting angels to represent Sandalphon and Zophiel.

I got mine when I got out of highschool, after about a year of deliberating and making sure it wasn't just a fad I was going through (one of my friends has three tattoos, and she kept trying to convince me to come with her each time she went back). I finally settled on something that would be exposed only if I wanted it to be, it was sexy, and somewhat meaningful (Scorpio pride!).
As for the location, yeah, I know it'll look wonky when I get old or if I ever decide to have kids.. but honestly, who cares - at that point in my life I shouldn't be wearing belly shirts. So my tattoo is three years old, I'm out of college without gaining the obligatory 15 pounds, and it hasn't faded/stretched at all.
Linked because it's possibly not work safe (though only if you have a very picky workplace).

New tattoo.
I'm standing in a very unsavory pose at a party, so disregard the... well, anyway. It's a good shot of my new ink, though.

I've been throwing ideas around for years now, never been able to decide on anything.
This sounds pretty awesome, pix?

To pre-empt Thoros's incoming comment, in-game Crow was not my inspiration. A friend of mine has a series of bat silhouettes in the same place and I had been toying with the idea to do something similar- the big crow by my collar bone was supposed to represent one of the aspects of the Morrigan and the smaller crows are Her feathers. Altogether, it was supposed to be a Murder, but the artist snuck in 8. Oh well, I guess. To keep myself from going insane about it, I'm pretending the Morrigan is leading a murder of Her own.
Each of my tattoos result from personal tragedies. The first two, my roses, are a tribute to a friend that passed. The roses in the pentagram are partially another tribute to him, but the overall tattoo mostly represents my loss of faith in Christianity. That sounds heavy, but it also allowed me to explore a much purer, beautiful spirituality.
The crows transformed from my original idea at the last second. I recently suffered another loss of a friend who, when I first met her, sang "Top of the World" by the Dixie Chicks with her beautiful, professionally trained voice (for those of you unfamiliar with it, the chorus is, "There's a whole lotta singin' that's never gonna be heard, disappearin' everyday without so much as a word somehow- Think I broke the wings off that little songbird, she's never gonna fly to the top of the world right now..." the bridge is the real inspiration, "I wanna grab hold of that little songbird, take her for a ride to the top of the world right now"). The crow is also the symbolic bird of death in Celtic mythology; coupled with my personal admiration of their intelligence, the song, and Cassie's voice, it seemed like the perfect fit to have the crows flying across my heart.
Tattoos are great for double meanings. I am personally attached to all of them in a different way, making their existence more a part of me than if I were without them. In the end, the tragedies are made less tragic by my permanent tributes to the good memories I have of them.

I'm working on it. I have no camera, and gallivanting out to get one isn't happening soon. Still recovering from the cost of my wacom.

I can't tell, is that a lip piercing, and if it is, is it a ring or a stud?
Druken2008-01-31 19:00:41
It's pierced, yea, and it's a horse-shoe.

I've been toying with getting myself tattoo'd on me. That sounds a bit weird, but in context, it would be a dragon. (whee Draconics!) Once I figure out which color I actually am I will probably be getting the dragon on my leg or thigh. I also am thinking about getting my chinese birth sign done on my back, but I'm really not sure. I lack funds right now, and once I get them, the question will rise, do I need this money for something else more important? I love seeing your guys tattoos... it's really cool

I have just one as of yet, a waning crescent with a serpent twined around it. Also a faint sun in the background. It is over my left breast.
In the summer, I will take a flying owl to my upper back (gonna be big!) and a Triple Goddess symbol (if I do not update full and waxing moon to the one I have already, represented by an owl and a swan, like the waning is with serpent.)
Need to find a camera.

My wings..
My Fae. She needs a bit... ok, a lot of work. I think I'm going to have them go back threw and redo the rose black. I'm not sure what else I want to do to it though. My wings, I want to have them make them more detailed, and have a few feathers falling down the crack of my back.
Edit : Druken.. all I've got to say about that pose is... you look like all you need is a catwalk and you'd be set! Nice ink though!

If you're gonna get a tattoo don't do what I did...
Get drunk in a random Chinese city in a bar next door to a tattoo parlour and wake up with four Chinese characters across you right shoulder...
