Now you're in for it on the other thread !
Não sou carioca não, só passei a adolescência lá.
And, the Europeans lump us in with the Latins. Which, for the specific aspect I pointed out, works well enough.
And we lump ourselves in with the Latins, which to us means anyone else who speaks a Romance language. But the Americans have a bad bad stereotype attached to that word.

If incest is so "universally taboo" why has almost every royal family in history participated in massive incest? If people are willing to be ruled by it.. it can't be that universally taboo. There are obviously exceptions.. which means its far more social than genetic.
I think if you really take a look at the scope of history, you'll find that the problem isn't quite so rampant as you make it out to seem.
Also, even if every royal family inbred exclusivly, the enormous weath gap between peasant and king would still have kept most people in line.

This may seem like an alien concept to the modern reader, but as a friend used to quote over in the other forum, "Quod licet Iovi non licet bovi" - 'what is permissible to Jove is not permissible to cattle'.
In other words, the King can do what is forbidden to the peasant because he's the King, it's not wrong for him.

Egyptians at pyramids time married brother with sister only in the royal family. I think some other dynasties that claimed to be descendants of God did the same because they were descendants of Gods and so they weren't able to mix with normal mortals. Provided your family has no genetic problems and you've managed to keep it "pure" genetically, it's doable. Specially if being the son/daugther of the Gods made it so nobody would point at you your... little problems. There's also those cases of family being only transferred via the mother, so theoretically you could marry the son of your biological father without him being considered your brother, at most a close cousin.
And I think anybody in latin america is considered latin, from my european point of view There's nothing wrong with that!
