Those street vendors are exactly why the Philippines are not a priority for movie releases :-p
Lysandus2007-03-08 04:52:42
Not only that though, they sell a lot of porn and hell I just saw a Police officer buying some pirate dvds... really makes me sad that time.
Unknown2007-03-08 04:53:01
Greece, Rome, same thing!

Come to think of it, I could probably go out and get the movie for $5 now if I wanted to to laugh.gif Hrm, some critics rating it harshly on rottentomatoes though.

Support your local street vendors, before Wal Mart comes in and runs them out of buisness.... An ex-girlfriend of mine, well her father was an phillipino arms dealer. Was cool as hell, and creepy... but hey if he didn't sell arms. Well the US would... so I give to mom and pop corporations smile.gif
Callia2007-03-08 04:57:48
Actually, the US only sells guns to the Philippines now that we have left the Philippines... the US has a bad history with armed Filipinos. (Not that most of it wasn't deserved, but...)
Lysandus2007-03-08 05:00:28
Okay, sorry to derail to topic.

I wanna watch it in theatres! (hopefully)
Ixion2007-03-08 05:58:55
If I didn't get the chance to watch it free I'd have gone to an IMAX to see it.. IMAX movies are so much better.
Callia2007-03-08 06:02:02
Imax loses its appeal when you work a job in which you have to whip your head around on a regular basis... it is the last thing you want to do to relax :-p
Athana2007-03-08 06:32:13
Oh my gosh! I'm seeing it as soon as I get out of class on Friday

"You guys must be gay." Sorry... had to make some reference to one of the stupidest things I have heard of recently.
For those of you who have been blessed to not know what I am talking about, a small section of the gay community has gotten behind this movie, claiming it as a 'mainstream' gay movie, because of all the rippled chests.

Actually, the historical Spartans were gay. Very very gay, and I mean it in an utterly flamboyantly institutionalised way. Didn't you read your Greek history?
Callia2007-03-08 14:55:52
Apparently you didn't, just the popular views put forward by the gay rights movement. There is no historical or archaeological evidence that supports that claim outside of records of a few records detailing Dionysus rituals in which homosexuality is expressed. The greeks seemed to put everything into art, (Their is pottery with people having a sex on it.) yet acts of homosexuality never made it to the art board. This indicates that either A.) It was rare at best, or B.) it didn't exist for the common Greek.
Unknown2007-03-08 15:20:32
I think he meant the Spartan military.
Callia2007-03-08 15:22:49
And I had included the Spartans in my counter-point, they are after all quite Greek

Oh, so this piece of Dorian gay pr0n must be a fake.
Sylphas2007-03-08 15:30:07
Vertithrax, do you normally look at ancient greek pornography? That was awfully fast. tongue.gif
Callia2007-03-08 15:34:12
That image is depicting the love triangle of Apollo, Zephyros and Hyakinthos. This is largely considered to be an example of one of Apollo's mortal flaws. Yes, this is one of his flaws. Show my pottery imagery where one of the two people involved is not a god. (In the case of the image presented, it is Zephyros and Hyakinthos pictured.)

There you go.

And to answer Sylphas' question, no... it takes me less than five minutes to find on Wikipedia.
Callia2007-03-08 16:26:20
Last one isn't Greek, its a Etruscan. The first depicts Hercules, and the second is yet again another mythological figure. (It is also Minoan, which is marginally Greek, but that is another issue for another time.)
Unknown2007-03-08 16:37:15
Haven't seen the movie yet and mean to, but the trailer... made it look incredibly racist. The heroes are white males, embodying physical perfection, while the Persian empire is comprised of all sorts of different non-Caucasians, who are deformed, scarred, decadent, and visually associated with animals. (The notion of casting the Persian empire as the degenerate barbarians when compared to the Spartans is, er, amusing.) I really hope that the movie doesn't have the same feel to it...

You do realize that the Spartans were white males embodying physical perfection, while the persian army consisted of different non-caucasians? Also, it was based off a comic book. Of course the bad guys are going to be outside the normal. I wouldn't consider that racist.
