It made me think of WoW when the Immortals showed up. Warriors > rogues. Overpower ftw.

Is it bad that I thought of Lusternian skills when watching the movie?

I distinctly recall thinking "Shield wielders > dual-wielding one-handers? " when the Spartans started kicking Immortal butt.

With the big WTFcar and everything.

As far as I know, the curse of eternal life he wished the hunchback wasn't an insult to the part of him that wanted to be spartan, it was just that the most effective form of torture and truly just punishment of a traitor is that they live forever, wallowing in their guilt.

My favorite line of the movie was

You are as kind, as you are divine
Diamondais2007-03-16 04:46:16
Just got back from it really. All that needs to be said: wub.gif jumpfire.gif

Most enjoyable part of the movie was 'I think I'll go see their leader, might as well be civil about it' *Spartan kills surviver right near by*

It was a good movie, but unfortunately, because I watched "Last Stand of the 300" on the history channel the day before I saw it, I just kept thinking how inaccurate it was. laugh.gif

I saw a lot of that too. But still a very nice movie.

See, the inaccuracies in this one wouldn't bother me. They never claimed to be accurate.

It is why I could enjoy Knights Tale and Marie Antoinette.

With Apacolypto, Troy, etc etc... which claimed to be precise an accurate, I had to constantly avoid nitpicking. Of course, Apacolypto I didn't have much trouble with, other then a few out of place murals, and long count dates, none of the mistakes were terribly obvious, and the story was engrossing enough. Troy and Gladiator lacked those saving graces. Gladiator aint a bad movie though, and since they do kind of take it out of the historical record for a moment, it is easy to forgive. (They insert an 'extra' Emperor after Aurelius for the purpose of the story.)

I am going to be seeing this movie tomorrow or Saturday, not expecting it to be a great historical epic, but a fun violent action movie.

While funny, I think that writer should see a doctor.

My co-worker just put the soundtrack on internal servers, and damn, that is great music to code to/mud to

Last one isn't Greek, its a Etruscan. The first depicts Hercules, and the second is yet again another mythological figure. (It is also Minoan, which is marginally Greek, but that is another issue for another time.)

The second one I've seen before. Looking it up, it appears to be Athenian. I dispute your assessment of it as a depiction of a mythological figure.

Plato strongly implies the Spartans practised same sex pederasty.

It almost certainly wasn't in the bottom, but rather a sort of quasi-masturbation through the thighs - this method of 'sex' has an amusing name which I'm ashamed to say I've forgotten.

Having said that, no one really knows what the Spartans got up to.
Daganev2007-03-16 16:50:56
Regardless of reality, in the movie, the Spartans make fun of the Athenians for being boy lovers, and they each have wives and children So, any claims that the Spartans in the movie 300 are gay-like, is quite silly.
Ildaudid2007-03-16 21:48:48
Ok, just got back from the movie, great movie, the Queen and the Red Haired Oracle were knockouts, no implants on them and still beautiful.

I really enjoyed seeing 1 sword be able to chop off a limb with one slice, wish that would get incorporated more into warrior fighting here. Since 2 handed swords take 3 or more slices to even get the "lucky" chance, to roll the "lucky" affliction amputate.

But yes, the movie was cool. I liked the darkness and the hues in the way it was filmed also, made it look even better.
Sylphas2007-03-16 23:09:34
Sure, one hit amputates, you just have to use sword and board and take off all your armor. tongue.gif

Ooh I like that idea...

a new skill called battle frenzy.

Every warrior attack you make for the next 60 seconds gets Heavy wounds afflictions. Must remove all your armour and you lose all your defenses. tongue.gif
Sylphas2007-03-17 15:49:30
Could always just do one of the tried and true "damage you deal is increased by 25%, and you take 25% increased damage."
Callia2007-03-17 16:57:54
"You let out a roar "Tonight we dine in hell!" as you rip off your armour and charge into the battle, cloak flowing behind you."

"Aflie lets out a roar "Tonight we dine in hell!" as he rips off his armour, and charges into the battle, his cloaking flowing behind him."

Erm, no they didn't. Commodus was the son of Marcus Aurelius, and became Emperor after Aurelius died. Commodus was known to participate in actual colosseum battles, and I believe, according to legends, that he could shoot the head off of a bird with an arrow. All while dressed as Hercules.
They changed how Commodus was in Gladiator, but they did base it off of an emperor.

Anyways, 300 isn't wildly inaccurate. Sure, Xerxes wasn't at the actual battle, and that the crazy sword-arm executioner didn't exist either, but a lot of the fighting was based on how spartans were believed to fight (including the first fight's phalanx: that made me giddy after watching it). Also, the opening scene was like completely true. Remember though, movies about ancient civilizations don't have to be 100% accurate, because 1) most people don't care, and 2) a lot of the history was blown out of preportion anyways: Around 200,000 persians in Thermopolae (bleh, stupid Greek spelling) opposed to the supposed 1 million.

Although, they did pull the roman "turtle" formation for the end.

It is already out Lys! Treat me to the movies then? tongue.gif
