If this is in the wrong section, my apologies.
I've dabbled just a little in Lusternia. Not much at all though. I'm creating a character in Glomdoring. My question is, how much conflict does this commune see?

Not a ton. Glomdoring is raided rather infrequently nowadays. Glomdoring raids even less frequently, and usually it's only a handful of people who do so.
Of course, this could change tomorrow.
Unknown2007-03-22 19:47:46
How about Serenwilde? Does that commune see a little more conflict then Glomdoring? I'd like to play a foresty type character, if possible.
Unknown2007-03-22 19:54:11
If you want a lot of conflict to the point that your enemy is killing you badly but you still manages to kill a lot of the raiders, join Magnagora... Celest has a lot of military power right now and Magnagora is the natural victim for them...
Diamondais2007-03-22 19:57:41
Neither Commune sees a lot of conflict and battle. If they do, it's against each other mostly.

These things are subject to change with time, wars come and go, and the nations shift their stances to each other, well the communes do at least, Mag and Celest are pretty much always against each other, it's just the intensity of their fighting which wanes and waxes.

I had to make a similar decision when I first joined Lusternia (or, I should say, rejoined, since I joined Mag then returned to Achaea for awhile before coming back). I loved the nature RP (I had had characters in Eleusis from Achaea), and the Serenwilde and the Glomdoring were even more promising.
Derian was a Serenwilder for a long time, and I had quite a bit of fun with him. Now he lives in Mag, but I've also had alts in all of the other organizations. Here's a quick run-down of the way I've seen things from the different organizations. Basically, I would suggest thinking of what kind of RP sounds fun, then joining the org that fits with that. There are no super-overpowered (or underpowered) classes in Lusternia like in some of IREs other games, you can do just about as well combat-wise regardless where you choose to go.
- Glomdoring is the focused, devoted forest, sacrificing everything for the society. They have some of the best player-run rituals and events, and just a generally immersive RP, but they're still getting on their feet and growing after a slow stage.
- Serenwilde is full of political conflict, and there are people on every end of every issue. They are becoming closer-knit, and there's a lot of fresh blood moving up in the leadership. Conflict is still somewhat limited, since the number of fighters dropped recently, but that could change any time.
- New Celest is the classic 'smite the infidels' sort of organization. I don't enjoy the RP, myself, but they have a lot to offer. They are morally strict, but as far as character you can be laid back. They see quite a bit of conflict, mostly with Magnagora, though their relations with the Serenwilde have been strained since their recent war.
- Magnagora is the tainted city. They are pretty disciplined, and tend to kill even their own citizens for disrespect and extreme dishonor (especially in the case of the Ur'Guard). They see a lot of conflict, mostly with New Celest, but they've fought with Serenwilde a bit in the past too, and relationship with Glomdoring is peaceful but not amazing.

Mitbulls, what a nice break-down! Hmm, Magnagora sounds like Mhaldor in Achaea. And, very interesting. I think I'll take my character there. I want conflict, I end up bored without it. But, snuggly really gets under my skin, so Celest may not be the best choice for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Celest is snuggly. I just like a more strict RP and I also don't want to be very limited when it comes to bashing or questing.
How to RP leaving as a novice though. I had problems with that in Achaea. A novice isn't supposed to know much about the world around them. So, knowing enough to leave a commune to further the Taint wouldn't be very smart. I'll have to think on it a bit.

You can know as much as you want to.... You can't know stuff your character wouldn't know, but you can recover from the Amnesia of the portal as quickly as you desire (meta)... You could easily pull a "I think my parents live in Mag, I must rejoin them" or any other thing.
I feel like all organizations get enough conflict to allow you to enjoy yourself on it, but Magnagora is a solid choice even regardless of that fact. Good luck!

No No No.

The good thing about Lusternia is that every denzien that passes through the portal of fates becomes an adventurer, a denzien marked by the fates that can grow stronger than most mortals and even turn into a demi-god. Adventurers suffer amnesia and everyone in the basin will suffer it too. So, Orti started as a Celest and couldn't find his real parents until he met Ixion and Athana in Magnagora(and the first time he died was to Athana's elemental blast as a Celestian Paladin in Celestia ). Everyone in his family couldn't remember who they were but they were bound to join the family in the end. How can you roleplay passing novicehood? Think about it like this.. as a novice you are a mage apprentice, n¡hilist initiate, Ur'Guard page or.. er.. Bard trainee?.. whatever.. but you have lots of RP oportunities if you can think about it

Like Ixion says, Magnagora isn't at all like Mhaldor from Achaea. Their players aren't griefers by Achaean standard, and generally they have better standards, and to be Tainted doesn't mean to skirt every rule just to piss people off. Achaea evil = I'm evil, I can do whatever I want without breaking city law or getting shrubbed and it is my sole duty to make everyone's gaming life complete hell and misery. Lusternia Tainted = Destroy the light at any cost.
New Celest and Shallam are nothing alike, either. No snuggly truffle-loving people are in New Celest, and if there are, they get a good smack down for not helping defend their borders. Very militant and strict, but also lax in a lot of ways compared to Magnagora (such as, we don't kill people as punishment).
I can't say much for Serenwilde or Glomdoring. I think out of all four, Glomdoring would be the most peaceful -- generally they keep to themselves and don't seem to get a lot of raids or raiders involved. Serenwilde sees some action if you still want to play a forest character -- you can fight with Magnagora against Celest, for example.

Oh no, I didn't mean griefers like Mhaldor. If it were like that, I probably wouldn't want to play. I meant in terms of strictness.

I see. Truffles should be banned in all IRE games along with like foods that cause people to sit in their city's most populated spot and snuggle/romp/wiggle/wtc every stranger who passes by.

Glomdoring looks to be very interesting because of the RP there. But, I'd rather have conflict. I can build my own RP to a point anywhere I go. If I'm in a city or commune that doesn't like conflict and has a ton of treaties or laws that prohibit it, I'd certainly be hindered.
I think I'll go with Magnagora. Thanks again!

Keep in mind that in Magnagora, as a novice, you have very few rights (sort of like Mhaldor in that regard). You gain rights as you progress. You can get noticed by learning and making it clear that you are willing to be taught more, but be very careful not to cross your superiors (or if you do, expect to get in trouble). In severe cases, you might be attacked as part of your punishment. I do think that it's a lot of fun, and I agree with Reiha that I especially like the Geomancers. We get to have the strict side, while still having a touch of insanity. Be sure to catch up with Derian in game if you see him.
EDIT: I missed this:

Actually, I'm afraid you might find quite a few snuggly truffle-loving people in Celest and in the Serenwilde. There are sects of people who are pushing to put an end to public snuggle-fests, and sects of people who enjoy it and want to protect the rights of the snugglers. In either organization, you're likely to see some public truffle-y kinds of people, but there are usually those who try to put a stop to them as well.
