So, Bard skill suggestions were submitted to envoy reports yesterday, but I had thought of a possible skill that all bard classes could have.
Description:
This is a Virtuoso level music skill (so a specialized ability). Requires at minimum 3 Bards to get together in a designated room in each city/commune, typically the theatre. One Bard starts the skill by doing something like...
PERFORM STARHYMN STORYTIME
The others then do:
PERFORM STARHYMN STORYTIME JOIN
When everyone has joined in, the first bard then does:
PERFORM STARHYMN STORYTIME START
The skill message would be hidden to all except the guild members of the Bard, but once the first bard starts the performance, the audience would see something like:
You see Doman gesture at the front of the room indicating that the show is about to begin, and your attention is directed towards the stage.
During this time, the Bards would put on a show using the usual emotes, singing, illusions, etc etc. When the show has finished, the first bard then does:
PERFORM STARHYMN STORYTIME FINISH
Then everyone in the room gains experience! The amount would be proportional to how many performers were in the show, say 3% at level 80 with 3 performers. The skill can only be used on the stage once every 6 months (but I'd be very happy if we ever get to the point of performances being put on that often).
So is this balanced? Feasible? Oh, and the name 'Storytime' is only used as an example, as you could also put on operas, symphonies, etc etc. Not sure what to call those group of performances.

I'm not sure if this is feasible or balanced, but it would be fun. It would be nice for bards to have more performance kinda things to do at their theater places.
Of course, the Harbingers have had a few spontaneous performance free for alls, and one really awesome performance using emotes and illusions only. Still, storytime (with a better name) would be fun.

Yes please.

How about before giving them more things, lets fix the things they have?
I hear there is a problem with a harbringer song, and of course lets get climb to work fairly against trans level guild skills.
But the idea seems neat, too bad we dont have 10 level 80 bards to boost our exp gaining while watching a show

Nice idea!
I would further say that plays, musicals, what have you could be approved like trade designs. It would be awesome! Then the suggested production could be assigned a given EXP value by the Gods.

Sounds like chorales or whatever you call them in Achaea.
I like the idea, but 3% at level 80 for 3 performers would be a bit too high.

Yes, Achaea had a thing like that. There was also a Priest-based skill, but that was less of a performance and more of a group of people praying.
And here's my problem with it: knowing people, they might attend not to attend to the stories, but rather for the XP itself. If they don't though, good.
And yes, 3% at level 80 is about 10 levels at level 20. Okay, I'm overexaggerating. Maybe.

I don't see a problem with that. I think sitting down and watching a show isn't done very often because there's no incentive to do it.
Points:
A particular stage should only support one show every three months.
A particular bard should only support one show every ten months.
Experience gained (Both by the bards and audience) is a function of the time and competence of the bards in Dramatics and Music (Whichever is higher), scaled according to the level of each audience member (But not totally scaled; a person at level 5 may gain a level or even two, a person at level 80 would gain 3%).
Performing an illusion, doing an emote, or saying something would give the bard doing it a small experience gain, and other bards a larger experience gain, scaled according to ability in Dramatics or Music, so that more skilled bards would naturally get bigger parts, as to maximize gains for the other bards.

I like Verithrax's suggestions.

I agree.

Balance this right - and all the suggestions so far look good - and Lusternia will have a truly vibrant performing arts scene.
Should we consider integrating critics into the mix? Making the admin assign XP values could be a serious drain on their time.
