Bard skill: Epic battle

I've always felt handling spam and teaming to be the biggest challenge MUDs face, so while daydreaming I came up with this skill idea. When a bard plays the epic battle song, everyone in the room is moved a number of rooms away, be they ally or enemy, and where they end up is based on the organization they are in. So if there are 8 Celestians and 8 Magnagorans in a room and epic battle gets used, if we assume it has a three room spread in every direction and there's 8 total possible rooms, you end up with 1 Celestian and 1 Magnagoran in each room. A minor carcer effect might be included in each room as well. This skill would cut down on spam and teaming, but would always put people of opposing sides in rooms with each other. If there were 8 Celestians and 4 Magnagorans, you'd end up with 2 Celestians and 1 Magnagoran in each room.

I don't like it... sounds to me like it'll kill group combat.

Then why did you post an idea about group combat? tongue.gif

Because he doesn't like group combat and wants it changed to a sort of 1 on 1 tourney through this skill. Read his post, Cuboy!

Well, there are few problems here:

1. It's still group combat, UNLESS there is exactly as many fighters on both sides, which rarely happens.
2. They (the fighters) can still wander around and form the groups again, Jello mentioned only a minor cancer effect. As such, it's only an inconvenience rather than an option to actually enforce one-on-one combat.
3. It's kinda powerful and has a big potential (with changes). Giving such a tool in hands of only one archetype could be non-wise.

The third point is minor, I am stressing out the first two.

Oh, and it'd screw room-based effects.

EDIT: To clarify, I have nothing against turning Lusternian group combat into a series of duels. That's the purest and noblest method of fighting, if you ask me. But we have to realise the weak points of every mechanical implementation, to prevent abuse.

Actually though it would turn out 2vs1 in every room, it sounds kinda cool! Like a fresh idea, that no one has even thought of yet. I like it.

Same here, sounds cool. ^^ And if they don't have matching numbers, just like...put them in some sort of waiting state. tongue.gif

Umm...Scissorflip, then your allies follow which opponent they want? tongue.gif

Well making it impossible to team people would be kind of lame, but a 7-10p ability to encourage slightly more even and less spammy fighting could be cool. Perhaps the minor carcer effect (which isn't carcer) dies if someone leaves the room or sets up an actual carcer equivalent, so if skills are used to get back into a team it becomes easier for the other side to do so as well.

Possible abuse: Break up a raiding party while fighting Supernals/Demon Lords/Avatars.

Reminds me of those kungfu movies where the enemies would menacingly circle the hero but only go after him one at a time, to get beat up.
