Hmm, I think I understand.
Can you suggest a good target for a greatsword? I've been aiming to make any greatsword with 480+ precision, but that is taking a while.

517 is the magic number. Or possibly higher, but there's good reason to think 517 is the precision cap.
Greatswords tend to be pretty slow, so I might use one for your precision/damage sword. For that, aim for 270+/440+/150 and you'll have quite a respectable sword for use with forging runes. Slow, yes, but hindering slows you down less the slower you swing.
If you can get the speed and damage, a 300+/341+/170+ makes for a very respectable generalist blade, though it's probably easier to get that with a claymore. Certainly possible with a greatsword.
What would recommend, however, is that you forge either a damage/speed or a precision/speed blade. The first for hunting and group combat (you can fill in with a speed/damage blade for hunting later if you want). If you're going for a greatsword, then you are probably working on your precision/speed blade. For that, you're looking for more of a 200/451+/170+, and that'll be hard to do. Your instinct to aim for 480+ precision isn't wrong, it's just hard to achieve. Again, there is no gospel here - just opinion. Plenty of other forgers have their own.
If you intend to add greatrunes... that's a much trickier question. Do you?
Finally - yes. It takes quite a while. Forging good weapons on your own will take a truly staggering amount of time; looking for ones in shops means hoping someone first forged what you want and then decided they disagreed. On the up side, if you aren't picky you can buy some decent weapons for peanuts, given the state of the forging market.

I have a 226/478/114 greatsword unetched. I probably reforged a few more balanced swords in order to get that one..

I'm a good scripter so I'm not really after generalist blades... something special for each use. Although, a greatruned blade should be balanced for best use really, I think... hmQUOTE

This is my hunting katana:
It is a two-handed weapon.
Damage: 124 Precision: 287 Speed: 278
It has the following dwarven runes etched upon it in coal:
A dwarven rune shaped like a wolf has been etched in coal.
A dwarven rune shaped like a boar has been etched in coal.
I see what you mean about the 480+ being hard to achieve. I'm up to 50 reforged in the last 2 days alone.

Yes. Probably 2 of the level 2 stat ones, to start with. I need to find out what people think is best though, to be sure.QUOTE

I'll be making it all for myself sadly, then axes again for my brother Cahur. So it may be worth investing in a hammer of forging! Hehe.
Thanks for the help! I'll adjust my forging targets to something more reasonable.

That's a bit slow, even for a sword for being hindered, but not bad. And, again, you'll only be using it when you're hardly moving.

That is the problem. If you can only rune one blade, the logic of runing a less specialized one has more force.

You can do better. It's not critical until you plan on doing a LOT of hunting, though.

Fifty is nothing, sadly.
Consider getting 1 level 3 one instead. Transaction costs, if you ever wanted to trade up to level 3s, are non-trivial. If you're runing a damage sword, consider damage-changing runes - they are generally felt to be the best bang for your buck.
A hammer of forging helps. A lot. Not only does it halve your forging time, you get a larger standard deviation around the same mean and within the same maxes. You get more great blades, and more terrible ones. Just smelt the terrible ones, and keep going.
ETA:@Aiakon - He's just starting out. Can't be expected to have a max-speed katana just yet.

What are raids all about? What is the purpose behind them?
Where can I find seals for the use of karma?
Where can I find seals for the use of karma?
First of all, raids have MANY purposes. First off, they can be used to economically damage your opponent-- kill a few villagers to harm their power and commodity production, for example. Second, you can raid to kill important denizens, for RP reasons. Third, you can raid because you just like killing people, and know that defenders often are less skilled than you so you can just "go to town" with little-to-no loss. Fourth, you can raid as a distraction, to try to pull defenders from another area for some reason or another.
(And that's not even all of it!)
Also, Seals are found on Avechna's Peak, in various caves. Just beware of entering them if an Ashteru is inside.

Heed this man's advice.
Ashteru(s) can lead to horrible stench, and even sodomy.

Does applying arnica take herb or salve balance?
Edit: And, if you have multiple afflictions with the same cure and you eat that cure, do they cure in a set order or at random?
Edit2: What cures cracked elbows/kneecaps?

I r famous. -.-
Anyway, if you wanna loan a hammer, you can just ask me, I try to forge less for a while, now.
And it takes herb-balance.
And to the second question, that depends, a few afflictions are cured in a random order, others are always cured first.
Oh, and regen cures both.

Yeah, forging is addicting. <.< Gotta stooop.
And generally, you can look up Dagas forging-thread for a good range of stats, though his maxes are for average forgings, doesn't mean you can't somtimes get a lot higher on some of them.
Generally, the most a weapon can get is 180/235/280, respectively 360/517/280. Not that you can ever get those stats, but theoretically, those are the maxstats. (I think so. Ixion said it, at least)

That thread has been gospel for me for a few days now.
I'm putting the final touches on my cure priorities.. I have an affliction that I'm not sure what it corresponds to on help healinglist tho. It is:
Diag message:
^suffering a chest that has been opened up.$
Cure message:
^The gaping wound in your chest closes up.$
I'm guessing its disembowelment? Thats the only one that is close that I don't have.. but confirmation would be nice!
