I have a question that hopefully the more experienced players on this forum can help me with.
My character, Korale, is a level 48 Imperial Merian Aquamancer.
He has Expert Elementalism/Aquamancy, Adept Dreamweaving, and Adept Illusions.
I still have my one free reincarnation, and I would like to know what is a good race for a Aquamancer with those skillsets. I am buying some OOC credits.
I am planning on getting involved in combet etc. The main thing I am looking for is something less frail then a imperial merian. Or is an Imperial Merian about the best that I can do for a combative aquamancer?
Any advice would be welcome.

Well, Merian really. I don't think you'd want to reincarnate.
Vaerhon2007-04-04 06:40:54
Forren is a pretty good argument for Imperial Merian Aquamancers.
You might consider switching to psionics, actually. Telekinetic would help your fragility a lot, and Telepath would give a strong affliction / mindburst offense.
Dreamweaver seems like it's a bit hard to match with being a mage. Too much of your offense is in damage, which wakes people up. Then again, I'm not a mage and would gladly defer to those who are.
Besides, the combination seems to have worked for Ladantine.

In addition to what Vaerhon said, you may want to consider the Human race, too.

Asmoth does a pretty good job of fighting with dreamweaving.

That means Asmoth is good, and not the skill.
Psionics is the strongest choice for a PvP Mage. As for race: Imperial Merian is good enough, no need to change that. Other good races for Aquamancers are Mugwump and (70+ in level) Human. But they're not significantly stronger than Merian.

Tae'dae.
Why? 'cause they are the best.

Fail, because you double posted.

Oh, sure. Psionics is the strongest. But don't write off dreamweaving.
It adds an extra demesne effect - and those dreammists can be nasty over time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that you can stick your dream motes into rooms for another passive attack. It's also good for reconaissance.
Besides, Asmoth is no prodigy. There have been plenty of effective dreamweaver magi. Borca is another name that comes to mind. The fact is, I've seen it done well, and it's much more interesting than telepathy or telekinesis.
Forren2007-04-04 12:34:52
Telekinesis if you want to be able to bash as an imperial merian Aqua - forcefield makes it tolerable.
Telepathy if you don't care about bashing.
Dreamweaving might be neat though.

Okay, from the beginning...
- If you're going to stick with dreamweaver, I would suggest sticking it out as a merian, or switching to a human at higher levels. You won't be incredibly tanky, and bashing will be a nightmare, but dreamweavers have some interesting utility that makes them fun.
- If you're considering switching to telekinesis (psionics), I'd still suggest sticking with imperial merian or going with faeling. The 15 charisma will give you a pretty good deal of ego, which will make you pretty tanky, and with 18 base int you can do a ton of damage. As a faeling, you'd get higher base charisma (16), but lower intelligence (15 base). This would be the best match for bashing, but telekinesis is pretty limited for combat.
- If you're considering switching to telepathy (psionics), you could again go as imperial merian or faeling, but I would suggest imperial merian out of the two. You will be able to afflict pretty well with telepathy, and still be able to do quite a bit of damage. You won't be very tanky, though, and hunting will still be a pain.

If you stick to dreamweavers, you can:
- Spy at your enemies.
- Torment people who are sleeping.
- Support by putting people to sleep during the chaos in group battles.
- Able to see who are currently sleeping.
Downside will be:
- No ability to help you in bashing.
- Not good in direct confrontation.
- You have to be asleep for abilities to work
- Drains willpower when in dreamform.
- Cannot go back to your body if there's a eye sigil in the room.

Fixed it up a bit.

Still misleading. It ought to simply read "Cannot use certain abilities on eye sigils."

Thank you all for the advice, it has been really helpful.
It looks like I will keep Korale as he is for now, and maybe change race or go to psionics later.
At the moment I am working towards getting my staff in aquamancy and third eye in discernment, so I am not spending any lessons on illusions or dreamweaving at the moment.
Any other advice that might be helpful, as to what other skillsets or skills I should try and get? Or even on anything else.
Again thanks.

Dreamweaving is pretty crap for aquas. It's good for druids, though, and it's not bad for geos.

Erg! I knew I forgot something in my earlier post.
I meant to ask what tends to be a good trade skill for an aquamancer?
Personally I am leaning between enchantment and tailoring, going to put some credits to work earning me some gold hopefully.

Definitely enchantment.

For gold, maybe, but tailoring has a better trans skill.
