Wandering Folk?

Hrm,

A map or two of the Basin seem to have an area to the west of Dairuchi that appears to be an exit/entrance to the Basin. I was wondering if it would be possible for some creatures to wander in, or maybe an innocent of sorts to wander in with news from the outside?

Going from that, we have that Dracnari that wanders around the Basin, maybe we could have some other creatures wander about that give little tidbits of lore or just some thoughts. It'd be interesting to be going through the Serenwilde and find a lost Taurian who knows about hunting and how to survive, just not how to get home exactly. Maybe they could also except some items from you for karma, or another small item. Said hunter could ask you for a tinderbox because he lost his, in return he gives you some meat or sommat.

Drawing a bit from the battlegrounds idea ( http://forums.lusternia.com/index.php?showtopic=12331 ), maybe these wanders give out some small item that decays after a few months, but is a neat little tribal thing?

Just a small idea or two.

I thought of something similar a little while ago. My idea was that a community just on the other side of the mountains, but still not too far off, makes a yearly trip into the Basin to trade goods. They would go to every village and stay for a few days before moving and when they had visited all the villages they would leave.

The goods they would trade would be things you could only get from them. Chocolate squares for instance and other things of that nature.

or animals, mounts and pets you don't see in the Basin, like monkeys

Chocolate is the food of the gods, you blasphemer.

It would be a fun little thing, though.

There's actually a ledge on the mountain range in the northeast section of the mountains that is on the *other side* of the range from our own. You can look down outside the Basin and there's some trees and stuff down there. Since I found it, I've been unable to figure out why someone with wings can't just fly down and visit.

Along a dangerous ledge:
Unlike many of the shelves and overlooks in the eastern mountain range, this ledge juts out to the eastern side of the mountains rather than the western. As a
result, a spectacular view of the Marne Ocean is granted. Looking over the ledge reveals that if one were to fall from here, although they would be deceased, they would find themselves amongst beautifully lush copses of trees. However an impressive view this ledge gives, its titled at an angle and any sudden moves could easily send a person tumbling off of it.

Hmm... well, if that typo wasn't fixed yet, I suppose I should typohere it the next time I visit that location!

It's for the same reason a person with wings can't fly directly up to Avencha's peak.

Wind? Dive and fan my wings out as I dive! (Or use a levitation enchantment-- that works on Avechna's Peak, too.)

Edit: Or what about that artifact that lets you fly unaffected by wind? Heh.

Yeah this is definitely a cool idea. I like the idea of non-player-characters roaming the land, each with his own unique story (or whatever). I think it would add to realism, also - it would be just another gear in the engine of complexity that is lusternia! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

Lets say one wandering hobo has some trinket that teleports you to a paradise garden, a place excellent for holding weddings or get togethers. Finding the hobo (because he's a wandering hobo of course) to get to the garden would be a cool journey in itself. Something like that.

I guess you'd be battered agaisnt the mountain side?

When you're typoing the its as it's, can you typo in "although they would be deceased", which is painfully ugly.

Amazingly enough, so did I.

Nicely caught, Okin. Mine was the "Its/It's" bit.

It could also be worked so that one week we have a hobo here, a finely dressed courier over here, and maybe a singing maiden over there. Then the next week we have a traveling knight-errant here, an insane alchemist over here, and an old man who hates children over there.

Just change their names, alter their stories and items a bit. You could even make them so that when you kill them, they don't come back. Maybe add some villagers to the villages that don't really serve any purpose other than to go have a little chat with or fetch something. Give Ayridion some work to do.

Because the events look like a good start anyway.

Hah. I just got a hilarious mental picture:

Seren#1 drags his knuckles on the floor before jumping around and whooping.
Seren#2: ...Uh. What ARE you doing?
Seren#1: Sorry, I was just bonding myself to the monkey totem spirit.
Seren#2: Ah, I see! ...wait... what's a monkey?
Seren#1: No idea.
*awkward pause*
Seren#1: I like trees. smile.gif

The bolded part is why you can't fly off of it.
Unknown2007-04-17 19:17:33
If you can find stable footing close enough to the edge to see over it, why wouldn't you be able to fly? Jump up a bit and then move towards the trees.

Or use Xen's gliding idea. Leap off and start a-floatin'.
Daganev2007-04-17 19:27:20
here, let me draw you a picture...

Unknown2007-04-17 19:38:51
Yeah, I don't see how you couldn't fly/glide from that. According to the Lusternia flight message, you just flap your wings powerfully (or something to that effect).

EDIT: Also, you could sip vitae and just let yourself tumble off.
