In my opinion riding needs to move away from the jousting and trample stuff and focus more on mobility, defense, and generally stuff everyone can benefit from equally.
As previously mentioned, riding tumble is a very good idea. It should be faster than a normal tumble, and should probably be dependent on size to make it correlate with tumble, and the mount has to carry you after all.

Right now mounted people can gallop and never get the hasty message, they can leap over walls, and block exits. These are just the non infliction actions they can do. I agree that trample on a legendary steed hurts, but if someone tramples on say a wakabi it won't be as terrible.
Mount tumble though? I guess I would call it something else, like quick dismount or something, since it would seem scary like Clise said to have a 400-500 lb animal rolling around.
Krellan2007-04-11 03:26:22
noooo not mount tumble, just a tumble you can do while -mounted-. The tumble would take you off the mount.
Ceren2007-04-11 03:26:38
Well, I didn't exactly mean the mount would literally be tumbling. I just called it mount tumble so you would get an idea of what I was talking about as far as mechanics. It could very well replace mountjump or something.

There is a class that doesn't benefit from doing 4-6 limb-breaks, or wouldn't benefit from doing a damaging impaling proning stun with the poison of your choice?
Yes. For example a mage benefits more from trampling because they have passive effects that prone all their enemies every 10 seconds, or a Nihilist could make offensive use of trampling for sacrifice where another class would just be doing a bit of hindering.
Razenth2007-04-11 04:35:01
You get a defense bonus while you're on a mount. Why don't you get a bonus to attack?
Saran2007-04-11 05:42:46
Abilities like gallop, flight, jump, fording, blocking and mountkick(I think) are all replacement abilities for skills that can't be used from mounts but at the same time gives those abilities to people without them. The problem is that aside from trample that's all the skillset actually does, trample if you can get it working is a great bonus but, for me atleast, mid combat it's just not going to happen unless I could be killing them easily some other way.
Skills such as carrying them from a room and poisoning them has a good use atleast to start everything off

supposedly. But this riding is taken from Achaea. the warrior fighting is so unique here which i think is sweet. So who knows how riding defence actually helps

AB RIDING
========
ScrewYouAndTheHorseYouRodeInOn: Give Krellan's mount a smack, forcing him to ride back out of EtherGlom, Faethorn, or your living room.
I have other ideas for Riding abilities, but looking over my list, they do seem to be kind of repetitive.

I learned Riding and bought a flying mount with a collar before the artifact wings came about. Now, I have virtually no use for Riding other than a bit of roleplaying.
These suggestions are good, and I'd like to see more done to make Riding a better fit with Lusternia, customized more to our style of combat and provide more synergy with all the recent abilities that have been added. Hopefully, a discussion will start amongst the Envoys to address some of these issues and come up with new ideas on how to "fix" the skill.

yay! I hope so too. Even if it's not to add into the combat so much as it is to be unique and more usable. I mean right now all we can do is mount most of them outside of combat.

so...my unicorn lost to Forren's turtle just about everytime. The only time I ever won was when both of us fell off or both of us dropped weapons. i never won completely. Unicorn is a legendary mount but more powerful on when you consider it compared to a turtle
Forren had a TF though so hoping that technically it raised his riding skill above trans.

I'm hoping that's what it was. We'll test again eventually, as I don't have a TF now.

need to be able to tumble off a flipping mount. I got ganked and couldn't even freaking dismount to tumble.

How about tying riding to the guild skillsets?
For example:
Knighthood - SYNTAX : MOUNTPIN - You can pin a proned target beneath the hooves of your mount causing damage.
Works only on a proned target and acts like impalement. User cannot attack the target unless wielding a polearm. Dismounting will end the pin effect. Target takes minor damage every tick and has to writhe to get the horse off.
Acrobatics - Passive - Years of training have allowed you and your mount to work as one.
Increases dodge rate, movement rate, and faster balance recovery when using riding skill sets.
Can't think of how to link it to geomancy/aquamancy/druidry/celestialism/nihilism/wicca

I want something so that knockdown attacks that normally would dismount you only have a chance at it. And maybe at trans never.

i'd much rather be knockeddown then at least I could tumble

can we please be able to tumble off a mount? it doesn't even need to be a skill in riding. though a skill in riding for it would be nice too if it made it faster than a regular tumble. (course once you tumble off the mount you'll be using a slower tumble afterwards). But just regular old tumble is fine too. if you can roll around with broken limbs, your body paralysed, your leg with a whole in it, your tendons severed, and your wind pipe crushed, why the heck can't you just roll off a mount?
can we look at jousting? it's pretty much impossible to ever win if one person's riding skill is higher than the others. so someone with a higherfavour that's trans has a higher skill. Both sides are gonna have legendary mounts, even if this is just a for fun jousting which is the only way to ever use it anyways. and thenwhen skill level and mount level are the same it comes down to mount strength. Unicorn beats a turtle. There should be some randomness factor that also would determine a win, lose, tie, nothing. if two people are exactly equal they'll miss or tie the entire time. it's already useless for combat, but let's make it not useless for a jousting tournament! Everyone wants to show their stuff whether it be on a cave bear or a giant wyvern!. also this randomness factor would be applied to ramming since that can also be used in the tournament really. and it's a much lower level for those who don't transcend riding.

But yah, neat idea!
