New Secondary Skillset

I, personally, think that Gemaetria and Voodoo (probably needs a more meaningful name) have a lot of potential as something to choose along with high/lowmagic... though with all these awesome ideas, it would make high/lowmagic look total crap in comparison. biggrin.gif
Another way to work it, I suppose, would be to make Voodoo an alternative to Totem specializations like Ash said... but then you'd need to do the same with Gemaetria. Rituals specialization? Alternative to Illusions? I have no idea.

Aetherbarbs kick ass. Shamarah gets a cookie.
Most definitely needs to be for bards.
Could also be for wiccans/guardians (as it seems to thematically fit)... though the problem there is that it probably would be overpowered for those classes... and druids/mages would feel screwed, unless they got something else too.

Warriors need something to choose instead of Athletics... but I'm not sure what. I don't think the 'magical buffs instead of physical training' skillset idea would work, simply because Rituals and Totems are already available instead of Hunting, I suppose you could make the choice lie between Athletics and Rituals/Totems, then have some kind of additional Tertiary skill, instead of Hunting.

In summary: Aetherbarbs, Voodoo and Ae. GIMME.

Seems I should have looked here before I added my new topic, but I will just link to it here instead:

Trade skill ideas for gemaetria:

Dictionary: MagicTome gets cool utility skill
Enhanced Dwarven runes: Forging runes last twice as long, and Fullplate armour has pernament forging runes.
Enhance Embroidery/; Allows you to embroider an Ae word onto clothing, giving it added properties.
Enhanced Engraving" same thing but for jewlery
For Herbs, Knowledge of the ae languag allows you to create double tints with your herbs.
For alchemy, Knolwege of Ae allows you to put in twice as many potions per almogmation.

etc.

I don't think that this is a good idea. Archetypes without the choice to select this skill would be lose out compared to those that can. And It's kinda impossible to pick gemaetria (assuming it requires highmagic), with herbs anyway.

I personally prefer something which uses the tradeskill to boost your secondary skill, than for your secondary skill to boost the trade skill. Or, the secondary skill only gives RP benefits to the tradeskill. Something like:

Bookbinding: Get to learn 9 languages (maybe 3 sets of 3) More languages learnt means you get a change of knowing what a mispronounciation/phrase does
Jewelry: Your creations can be tinted any colour you like.
Artisan: You can consider one of your templates as a Prized, thus able to repeatedly use it.

I'm quite liking the concept of Morshoth's ideas, maybe they could be incorporated as part of the new bard only illusion specs whenever they're released.

I love the idea of a Voodoo skillset - but if it is ever made, please, please, PLEASE do not make the Loa totem spirits. In its basic form, voodoo is Ancestor Worship - and the idea of having different families of spirits would be amazing.

Maybe some unalligned figures from history, specializing into groups of figures from each commune.

No love for Summoning sad.gif (no unhappy wingy thing?)

And oh yes.. Summoning.. *drool* (Float my own boat!)

I've been thinking of a different direction that the loa spirits can go.

Basically, the loa spirits would be the Dead Voices. Reasoning behind this is that from what I read in Wikipedia, spirit-riding seems very much like a literal personification of the spirit. Especially when the spirit-ridden priest is handed the symbols of the loa spirit like sunglasses, straw hat etc. , which seems very similar to acting as the spirit.

The Dead Voices, if I'm not wrong, they're fragments of a dead god or goddess. Therefore, they'll be willing to live once again, even if it is through the perspective of a mortal. And I assume that these Voices were once artistic divine, thus being able to experience from a different perspective would actually be enjoyable to them.

As for actual skills, I'll add on them some other time.

Be a Wiccan. Done. happy.gif

Umm, right... so a secondary skill would have to be all magicy or defencish...

Metamagnetism

Magnetics
Helix (Ore)
~ Check the effects of the metals and minerals
you'll be inserting into your body.
Infuse your body and mind with various
ores.

Clay
Infuse Clay into (self/ally)
~ +1 Dex (Cannot be stacked with other Clay)
Become moldable like the clay within your body.

Copper
Infuse Copper into (self/ally)
~ 5% cutting, blunt, fire resistance. 10% electric weakness.
A bit of copper can resist many things, but is still a conductor
making you a bit of a lightning pole.

Iron
Infuse Iron into (self/ally)
~ + 1 Con, 5% elemental weakness.
Iron is a tough metal, but can be worn down easily by
the elements.

Ceramic
~ Cures : slickness, sickness, weakness.
Ceramics are a powdery substance, and can be
fairly strong.

There, a little starting list in no paticular order! content.gif

The syntaxes lead me to believe this a skill based on the use of suppositories. I like the general ideas for the abilities but I dunno about the method of use.

The idea of a skillset involving Ae is intresting to me. I like the concept of stringing together basic verbs/nouns with a single adverb/adjective to acheive adverse effects. A nice example is the exlploding note. On a sheet of paper you could write Big/Small Explode in Ae and it will explode either way, but with Small Explode it'll light the room on fire temporarily and Big Explode would damage everyone in the room with decent fire damage.

Ummmm. No, just you slip bits of metal into your veins, and let it mix with your blood... so I suppose using the skills would cause a tiiiny bit of bleeding... hmm.

Clay and Ceramic have no magnetic properties, and nor do most metals. :/

But Metalism or Mineralism sounds wierd so... yah content.gif

On that note, some ones that are actually magnetic!

Lodestone
Infuse Lodestone into (self/ally)
~ Invisiblity, 5% magic resistance
A bit of lodestone can warp visual and
magical perception.

Magnesium
Infuse Magnesium into (self/ally)
~ Defence against Pierced Nerves.
A bit of magnesium can allow the nervous
system to function more readily.

Steel
Infuse Steel into (self/ally)
~ 10% General resistance.
A bit of steel can make your skin tougher
like metals. Side effects may include grey skin.

Neither metalism or mineralism are actually words. Metallurgy, on the other hand, is.

??

Not constructive.

Wonder if this idea would be a subset of Geomancy....

Giving advice on a name that makes no sense isn't constructive? Alrighty then, Common Sense R.I.P. once more.
Druken2007-04-30 22:58:03
Lowmagic and highmagic aren't words, either, but they mean something to Lusternians! You can attach 'ism' to basically anything and create something new. Lampism is the idea of or belief in lamp. Metalism would be the theory of or practice in metal.
Shamarah2007-04-30 23:31:24
The trans skill of Lampism would be LampshadeDance and would passively transfix your enemies.
