New Secondary Skillset

Oi, I actually like Dyr's idea a lot, too.
Shamarah's idea sounds very sweet too, though it could be pretty nice together with hexes. tongue.gif (Pretty nice meaning affliction overload)
Phred's idea seems a little risky...I'd rather have the save, small bonus in the hand than the possibly critical failure on my head (or however you translate that), 3rd skill, it would be sweet, like Astrology, but the second one should generally just give some benefits, at least in my oppinion.
Dag's idea...is complicated. tongue.gif

You would still basicly require that anyone picking this skill have a very very long name in order to fight.

Bonebag or somesuch Well, 1 power, some corpse. Might be decorated differently for each commune.
Some skills for bonebag, like scry, maybe timeslip, some utilityskills

Bashing attack: Rattle

You rattle your bonebag at at dirty fink and it's bones rattle in response.
Your rattling has rattled loose all of a dirty fink's bones!
You have slain a dirty fink.

Or a very short name, or other things could equal it out.

Its pretty much inline with Astrology.

However, since it is a secondary skill set, bashing isn't really all that important for it.

Tellurics
======
The ability to detect and harness the power of ley lines that invisibly criss-cross the Basin.

Sample Abilities (just shooting from the hip, here - be gentle)
========================================
Channel: Convert the power of a ley line into an amount of mana. Takes eq.

Overchannel: Convert health to mana at a certain ratio, allowing max mana to be exceeded.

LeyTravel: If at a notable landmark in the Basin, can travel to any of the other pre-designated landmarks. Similar to NATURE FLOW, but for certain objects, no terrain restrictions. I'm also thinking of some variation that would allow someone to teleport OUT of a monolith-sigiled location, but not INTO one.

Magnetism: Slow target's balance recovery time if wearing metal armor.

Tellurize: Converts next attack to Electrical damage.

Repulsion: Grants extra resistance to cutting/blunt damage in exchange for heightened susceptibility to other damage types. Or vice-versa.

Divert: Channel personal power reserves into a nexus.

Tap: Increase power recovery rate and/or increase maximum power to 12 or 15 or some such.

By the way, what I just thought of..
If you take the second skillset from Wiccans and Guardians, they'd remain both with one instakill (if they don't have tarot), and that one would be manadependant. Which they couldn't drain if the new skill doesn't have any manadrain.

I don't think anyone was suggesting doing that... Moon, Night, Sacraments, and Necromancy are all kinda intrinsic to the class functionality and identity.
Ashteru2007-04-24 23:56:35
Secondary skill ARE the ones you just listed, Hamshat. tongue.gif

Oh wait...the third skill counts as secondary skill too? ... I am a bit confused.

Sheesh, talk about confusing. I think I need to rework my idea then. *cough*

But your idea with the barbs giving warriorafflictions is pretty powerful then. I mean, it's not like I can pull off a concussion just like that, and you could do it in choke easily...>.<

This would actually be really cool except it seems like it'd be more of a utility skillset, so maybe as a second option for another skillset that's not vital to a class's offense (illusions for mages, maybe? I've always thought they should get a choice besides illusions)

It really depends on the spin you put on it... you could for example let players link enemies to glass objects which can be shattered, etc...

While I hate the name, I think the this could be really good. specially considering if they were lines relative to avencha's peak.
Lysandus2007-04-25 00:11:28
Well, what about something new for Alchemist to be able to throw vials and every enemy in the room gets effected like frost will make them frozen (strip fire at first) then that gunk when they screw up refilling something to act as sap when thrown.

Some thoughts regarding voodoo, a magic system drawn from powerful loa spirits (look it up) and sympathetic magic. How would this be interpreted in Lusternia? Here's some questions to ask.

Obviously, it would be low magic based, thus would be for wiccans and/or druids only. What would loa spirits be in Lusternia? Totem spirits? Perhaps powerful ancestral spirits (of powerful family lines?) in the communes? Would this mean communes would have 2 separate specializations? Would Ellindel and Glinshari be loa-type ancestral spirits in Lusternia? Could Rowena and Brennan ascend to ancestral spirit status? Perhaps Grutina and the dark spirit brethren? What would sympathetic magic be? We don't want to copy vodun incarnations from other IRE games but surely we'd want something to do with poppets. Being low magic, could this be manipulation of auras? Would auric barbs go here (though that sounds a bit dreamweaver-ish to me)? Do we really want zombies? If so, should only Glomdoring get zombies (as its more their RP than Serenwilde)? Some related words that could be used for inspiration: mojo, hoodoo, gris gris, met tet, gros bon, ti bon, houngan, mambo, veve, caplata.

Personally, I'd really love for someone to go into some degree of detail with the Rage concept. I can't make it sound very good, but I think most warriors would love an alternative to Athletics.

Ancestral Spirits would work particularily well alongside the Druid Guilds as they're both effected by them, the Hartstone revere their Ancestors and Commune with them, the Blacktalon use and are used by the Dark Druids of Hartstone.

But that's my only comment for now, as I'd have to look it up!
Daganev2007-04-25 00:30:33
Grutina would be perfect voodoo based spirits. Also, I think all the people destroyed during the taintwars, the old population of Glomdoring and the spirits of the people from Ackelberry who couldn't handle being disconnected from reality like the reset of the forest was.

Other posisbilities are the ancestors of the centaurs which could give it both a seren and glom link.

I would put gematria based on highmagic though, not lowmagic.
Kharaen2007-04-25 00:32:00
Oooh, I designed a couple skillsets! (In my sig)

C'mon, let's make wrangling a reality >.>
Daganev2007-04-25 00:32:43
As for the Rage skillset, I imagine it would basically make any warrior a tae'dae tongue.gif
Verithrax2007-04-25 00:49:20
Golem-making! Except, generalise golems to all kinds of contraptions and vehicles. You'd pick a method of locomotion for it (Legs? Wheels? Levitation), give it a reactor (Steam power? Running on lightning electricity? Drawing magical energies from the Aether itself?) load it up with weapons (Melee weapons? Gunpowder? Huge aetheric cannons?) and take it (or ride it!) into battle, guns blazing. Sort of like a mini-Colossus.

No, the rage skillset exists, its a common skill. Syntax: REINCARNATE INTO TAURIAN.

I'd probably go spewing out some new things for Bards, but...my guild needs all three of it's pathetically essential skillsets it has. losewings.gif

Though, y'know, I do encourage people to maybe think up some Acrobatics ideas. So that there is no longer three skills from Virtuoso to Transcendent acrobatics!. cry.gif

Rant completely aside, a Dancing sort of skillset would be nice. And I don't been flitty-silver Moon-dance sort of thing. Bards that don't use words, they use dance. (Dance could be an interesting option in place of Acrobatics, but the idea of the two seems to mash together too much, unless Dance was made to be more passive/defensive, and Acrobatics tuned to be more offensive.)

One of my hobbies in college was cultural magic... so borrowing a little from the Carib's Pre and Post Colonialism, and from a little Polynesian, I present to you, a low-magic skill-set drawn from 'witch-doctor' cultures, (Voodoo is one example of a witch doctor) and of course Lowmagic itself.

Lowcraft

HallucinationFocus: Become immune to hallucinations, and smoking weed no longer causes smily faces to appear.

HallucinatorySight: Smoking weed opens your mind to the spectrum of the Unreal, allowing you see your threads, and those that come in contact with yours in a physical sense. Gives truehearing and truesight, must have weed in a lit pipe to use.

CraftScry: Craft a scrying device of your choice. You can only have one type of device at a time, and you can only create one once a month. Each type does slightly different things.
Bone Bag, taking the bones of a small animal, you empower them with your personal power. Using it can determine the last four areas someone has been in, and will tell you up to three things, or people influenced, or killed. The target of this scry must be in the room, alive or dead.
StarMap, using a complicated stick formed constellation map, you can better view the threads of the of the world. This allows you to scry for the location of your target, and if they are outside, you can navigate the threads of the unreal so that you and your target are summoned into a random , non-territory room halfway inbetween both locations.
Doll, by crafting a doll and attuning it to your target, you can see through its eyes, and hear through its ears. The target need be in the same room as you. It can also be used as a proxy for pooka or dominate effects, but each time it is used, a culmative 5% the doll is destroyed penalty is accrued.

BluePowder: When blown into the face of the target, prevents them from being able to talk. Cured by smoking weed. (Random number of puffs 1-4)

UnrealReadiness: Your link to the unreal is heightened in the specific area of dodging attacks. Gain an increase to your chance to dodge, and take a little less physical damage.

CraftBlowgun: Create a blowgun with which to deliver barbs and darts.

(Borrowing from Shamarah here...)Soulbarb: attach a soulbard to an opponent to cause them an affliciton depending on the limb. Can be delivered with a blowgun, or thrown at a target.

CraftDart: Create a dart with which you can prepare with a non-thrown powder, or poison.

RedPowder: Delivered by a dart. Causes any kind of movement resistance to cease for a short time.

OrangePowder: Delivered by a dart. Causes the target to become hungry.

YellowPowder: Takes away one point of constitution until cured, also causes sensitivity which is cured the same as it would be normally. (Same as blue, need to smoke weed.)

IndigoPowder: Must be blown in the face of the target seven times, unless they have smoked weed in the last x minutes (X is the number of times the powder has been blown in their face). If they have smoked weed in the last X minutes, minus one puff from the total needed. Once the last puff has occured, the target shifts to 'dreamform.' They will remain in dreamform unless they have a way to return to their body, run out of willpower at which point they die, or are killed. (Add a skill to Dreamweaving, 'ReturnOther' which will return a non-dreamweaver to his body.)

VioletPowder: When ingested by a dreamweaver, it will increase willpower regeneration. It will also cause the willpower cost of things in dreamform to be less.

Mask of the Season: By crafting a wooden mask with the imagery of one of the four seasons on it, you gain a bonus. The mask can only be crafted during its defined season, and will last a year. you may only have one mask at a time.
Summer: 50% of webbings to automatically be burned off
Spring: 50% to cure a random affliction
Autumn: You may Invoke Autumn twice of month
Winter: 50% of cold damage is shrugged off, also immune to chills and freezing.
