The way a magic tome's operation is described is usually along the lines of, "aborbs part of the damage and converts it into a charge yada yada." That shows up in at least one source of info on the tome. Perhaps it was originally supposed to work that way, or perhaps it does work that way, but the absorption is minimal.

The chief value is a relatively endless supply of magic scrolls. Whether you care about that or not, I don't know. I've worked the magic tome into my curing, but lately, I've been thinking about just writing myself a few scrolls of each type and ditching the trade skill.

I'm not even sure you can rune a magic tome, although it'd be interesting if you could.

Please don't! Not when there are only five bookbinders in Glomdoring. Including myself. crying.gif

That's about three more than we need. wink.gif

The only reason I'm a bookbinder is because we needed someone to translate a scroll found during that last Kethuru event. From that time to the present day, I think I've made four books. One was for me, two were gifts, and one was for an actual customer.

I'm a bookbinder cause learning Dwarven is almost like having a secret personal language. happy.gif
On a more serious note, I picked Bookbinding for RP reasons. But still, it's really sad to be voted in as Trademaster by only five people. And one of them was me. I know, shameless me. happy.gif
So I myself don't mind if I don't get any profit out of it. Heck, even if there was more demand for books, the gold outlay itself would reduce our profits. In any case, I suppose I'll be filling up the trade designs all by myself then.

I think five is more votes then the last trade master election I voted in had. If I recall correctly, there were three, both runners, and myself. There are so many people with private cartels, and conglomerate cartels as well, it cuts down on activity in the public ones.

I have a design for you! I just need to write it...

@Shadow: No stealing of my idea!

can you see if it works? I've been considering switching to bookbinding for the tome for several months now. But if it really doesn't absorb damage it wouldn't be worth it.

Dylara offered to test my capacity to absorb damage while wielding the tome, but there was something about the way she said it that made me nervous.

Let me know if you haven't gotten it tested next time you see me IG. I promise I won't kill you with my wimpy Bard attacks!
