I have a somewhat silly question. Are there any Guilds that don't constantly nag about guild requirements and advancement? I am more a casual gamer. Which means, I don't play for hours on end per day. I -might- be able to play one hour a day. Of course, that varies. I don't want to spend all that tiny amount of time I come here for fun, working on guild related requirements. I want to bash a little and try to buy up some things my character needs and find a bit of RP if possible. I'm going to bring my character out of the Shadowdancers, but I want to have a good idea of how these guilds are before I join another. In terms of RP, I'd like to be highly focused on it. I just don't want to be nagged every time I log in. Make sense?
Unknown2007-05-02 13:01:03
I don't nag people to train in combat, but I do make myself available to all who want to advance. I'm a semi-casual gamer myself, and I've only been prodded a few times to advance or take positions of responsibility. My RP could use a little work, but that's more a factor of time I have to devote to it than a desire to get involved. I do try, and I think the Serenguard is a fairly good environment. We do encourage you to advance, but I'd like to believe that no one is ever really nagged about it.
Xenthos2007-05-02 13:01:11
Well, I'd have to say that guilds that are highly focused on RP are more likely to be guilds with an advancement structure and an interest in seeing their members advance up that structure instead of languishing at lower levels. Once you've got that done, you don't have to worry about it any more.
However, if that can't be done-- you could look into the Harbingers (from what I hear, their advancement path is extraordinarily simple, and can be totally finished in under an hour), or look into the Ebonguard (I sometimes ask GR1s if they've looked into our advancement stuff yet, but as far as I know we do not push beyond a one-time asking if they desire to look into it). We've still got a number of GR1s who don't seem so interested in advancing beyond that, and it's kind of normal / expected now. You're just going to find a bit less guild roleplay than you're used to in the Shadowdancers, but it's a bit of a tradeoff.
If you're looking outside the Glomdoring, though, I'm afraid I can't really help you.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't want to work on certain requirements. I just don't want to be nagged about it when I simply cannot commit the time it takes to get some of this stuff done. I have a family, including kids oocly. I work, we have sports practices, etc. So, my time is limited.
Urazial2007-05-02 13:12:26
This is the second time I've seen someone complain here about a problem with a guild rather than taking it up with someone in game. What's sad is that if you don't explain the problem to someone -in game- there's really nothing to be done by anyone in the guild in question. Most guilds do want their members to advance and grow in the guild, I'd think, but in cases where it's effecting your enjoyment then there's absolutely nothing wrong with talking to someone OOC while in game. The problem is that people aren't mind readers... if we don't know there's a problem, we can't do anything to fix it
Clise2007-05-02 13:14:16
Guilds I know of that doesn't "nag" : Spiritsingers, Celestines, Aquamancers, Geomancers, Ebonguard.

As Urazial said-- if that's the case, they're usually pretty understanding if you talk about it with them, and if they know you're intending to work on it, just have limited time. They're also willing to help / put in some of the time with you to make it easier, or have been in the past.

Wooo there. I'm not complaining. I asked a question. There's not really a way I can ask all the guilds if they are pushy with requirements without my looking lazy in game. I guess I could, but I'd end up being ooc with it. So, I asked here seeing as there are usually people from all the guilds who frequent the forums. Surely, they'd be able to answer my question. I'm not saying anything bad about the Shadowdancers. I actually liked the guild and the guild leader was very kind and helpful when I asked questions. I never once had a question go unanswered.

Well, he's trying to answer you in another way-- by suggesting that you look into asking the Shadowdancers to give you a little more time / be a little more lenient (which can be done in an IC manner). However, this response of yours seems to show that you're pretty much set on leaving, so-- the forum thread is the best way to go in that case.
I do think you should try to work it out IC with the guild first, however, especially if you like them.
Rakor2007-05-02 13:21:34
You're all wrong. Critter, the guild you're looking for is the Cacophony. Or, as I like to call it, the Estwald. I am the guild. We had some "paths" set up but the leaders are never around so joining them would be pretty pointless. If you like to make songs and do pretty much whatever else you want, Cacophony is the guild for you!

I second that. No one's brought it to my attention. If there's ever a problem, or a reason why people just cannot get through our stuff, I'm always willing to discuss options with them.
Part of the game is roleplay, and the Triad is just a roleplayed overview of what the Shadowdancers have to offer. Wisdom- history. Death- fighting. Binding- the Fae. It really, really isn't hard, so I just don't know how to help people anymore than I have.
Despite the rumors, we're really not evil overlords. Druken likes to rave maniacally about the benefits of the knowledge we have to offer, but I get that people are easily bored with this stuff. It's why we pick Seers who know how to engage people's interest.
Your guild is not the enemy!
edit- And, I was writing this before Critter responded to Urazial. My point still stands, though!
Unknown2007-05-02 13:27:24
*weep* I never said the guild is full of evil overlords!
I LIKED the guild. I LIKED the members. I'd honestly recommend the guild to anyone who's looking for a guild that's very helpful to it's members and focused on RP. Hell, I'd have loved to stick around. I liked Glomdoring as a whole. I even had people who were not in my guild willing to answer my questions. I'd say that Glomdoring is one of the best in the game when it comes to general newb friendliness and RP, from what little I've played.
It's just that my ooc life cannot allow for me to spend a lot of time here. I'm personally not a good fit for the guild.

Remember that generally when people are asking they are trying to help you. It could be that they think you don't know enough or need help so they are offering a hand, just saying that you are alright and progressing fine at your own pase should be enough for anyone but remember the help is generally on hand if you need anything.

You forgot the first 12 ranks Ashteru
And personally, I think if you really never want to get nagged about -anything-.. rogue would be the only way to go, but you'd get little roleplay from that.
And we don't nag people in the Moondancers either to my knowledge. If you want to become a 'someone' in the guild you can, but that's going to take time.. if you just want to pull your own thing you can as well. We have several (if not to say many) people in Seren already that do that.
I don't really know the Shadowdancers from an inter guild prespective, but if you like Glomdoring and the SD's I think it might be worth simply trying to work out your differences once and for all. From my own guildhopping experience, the more often you choose to leave instead of bringing something up that you don't like, or learn to live with it, the more often you are likely to repeat exactly that.
I'd suggest Celest or Seren generally if you really want to leave Glomdoring. Celest as the more 'active' and 'aggressive' one, and Seren as the more 'relaxed' and 'peaceful' one (overall). Whichever environment suits you better.

Since everyone else is much too busy calling you names; welcome, I hope you enjoy your time here.
On the requirements side: there's a reason Lusternia does not have probation such as the old IRE games used to have in that we wish to stimulate people to enjoy themselves rather than force other players to go through endless lists of meaningless requirements.
In practice, the systems still exist, but they no longer restrict your skills or participation. In other words; let them nag, it makes little difference.
