Topmudsites Voting

1. What is Topmudsites?
It is a website whose primary purpose is a form of "traffic exchange" promotional site. Basically, MUDs send traffic (internet users) to it by having users 'vote' for a MUD, and it sends traffic back to the MUD. The more traffic/votes a MUD sends to it, the more it generally gets back. It's free promotion and a way for you to help the world of Lusternia with very little effort.

2. How can I vote for Lusternia?
Easy! Just go to www.lusternia.com/vote and then click on the page when it asks you if you really want to vote. That's it! You can only have your vote counted every 12 hours.

3. I can never remember to vote!
Don't feel bad - it's a common issue! To help you, we've implemented two distinct ways to remind you:
  • Type config voting prompt or just config voting on. This will keep track of when you last voted as long as you're logged into Lusternia when you vote, and remind you to vote 13 hours after you last voted. If you used 'config voting prompt' then the word 'vote' will appear on your prompt as a reminder and you will be sent another reminder every half an hour until you vote. If you used 'config voting on' then you will only be sent the half-hourly reminder. If your vote doesn't register for whatever reason, just type 'voted' to register that you voted.
  • A reminder is sent to everyone online about twice a day.
HELP VOTING in Lusternia will give you more information. Remember: You certainly don't have to vote, but it does help Lusternia in the long-run and we'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Actually if you go to the very top of the forums under the "calendar" button, you can see a link to vote directly from these forums.

Vote vote vote!

I vote three or four times a day from three different addresses on totally different subnets! I'm voting more times than I have characters! Yay!!

(Pretty sneaky, though, changing the URL to ironrealms.com. I was wondering why my zMUD button and my browser favorite weren't marking me as having voted on GWHO!)

Hmm, that sort of gives me an idea, inspired by the JTS (Join the saga) series of MUSHes. Instead of listing Achaea, Lusternia, Aetolia, and Imperian all at topmudsites, just have one listing called 'Iron Realms Entertainment'. That might lower the number of new player channeled into each game, but on the other hand that would likely be countered by the fact that it would be receiving 4 times as many votes and be unbeatable on the lists.

It would probably vault IRE to number 1, but considering the number of people who vote for and play multiple IRE games every day, I'm not so sure it would actually increase traffic at all. In terms of the psychology of it all, people are going to be more likely to look at any one IRE game in the top ten (There are 4, so there's a 2/5 chance that a random selection from the top ten will be an IRE game) than they are to look at the one IRE banner, even if it is in the number 1 spot. (1/10 chance of selecting IRE banner in the top ten) Regardless of this, do you read those forums? Molly would probably have an aneurism over that kind of thing. Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing...

Umm, if its at all possible, would you be able to add the vote link to the IPB default skin? I dislike the Blue Sky skin a wee bit, so I mostly use the default, and it would save coming here every time I wanted to vote from the forums *grin*.
Unknown2004-11-17 20:30:43
I use the default as well....blue sky hurts me widdle eyes closedeyes.gif

Hmm, I just voted from the vote option under the calender and didn't get the message in the game that I voted.
Tried from the website and still didn't get any message (it should atleast give me the 12 hours message that voting don't count).
Estarra2004-11-17 21:22:06
You don't absolutely love bluesky???? ohmy.gif

Ah, well, it's not my favorite either. Unfortunately, the skins hadn't caught up with the latest version of this particular message board. Indeed, we had two choices: Blue Sky or Patriot Games. (And, believe it or not, Blue Sky is better unless you prefer metallic red, white and blue with stars and stripes.)

I'll look into seeing about the vote button issue. We recently had a firewall upgrade to the server and I may not have set up the new link button for everything correctly. If you're interested in bookmarking it, however, it should be:

I would have been just as happy with patriot games *G*. I like how the default is nice and easy on the eyes, crisp, fast loading and is functional. With Blue Sky I had to try and work out where everything was too often to keep on using.
