I am a "transfer" from a different IRE realm to Lusternia. I've really enjoyed Lusternia thus far, but I often wonder if my familiarity with some of the mechanics makes me seem like an alt (though lots of things completely baffle me).
I know in the realm I played previously (no, I'm not saying which one, but I'm sure you can guess), alts are treated rather poorly, especially when they're obvious. Is it the same in Lusternia? Is the way you treat someone in Lusternia affected by whether you believe they are someone else? Is it easy to tell when someone is an alt, or when someone is a transfer from another realm?
Just curious, things have been great, thus far, I'm looking forward to getting involved more deeply in the things going on around my character.

In my experience, it depends on the person. Some people have many alts, but since they are a good and respectable player (Clise) they are respected, and there are no problems. Others, who are less respected and who are viewed to be less skilled role players, their alts are held with contempt.
It really depends on who you run with, and your personal level of ability.

doesn't seem like transferring from another realm would make you anything like an alt, lusternia is a lot differen't from everywhere else
I don't think they are treated poorly because characters judging on a players alts is poor roleplay and most (I think at least) of us are better than that, a character is a character, just because a player has more than one character it doesn't mean anything. Those people with alts just have to have a higher level of Roleplay and not bring things one alt knows, to another one.
Good! From what I've met of Kaela on my shadowdancer alt she's really nice!

Lusternia is COMPLETELY different from the other IRE games. The only thing that HASN'T changed is the very basic engine (i.e. equilibrium, balance, HMEW, levels, and other things). Everything else has been stripped down and morphed into a completely new and unique experience.
Richter2007-05-07 04:48:11
If someone tells me they're an alt of someone else, I'm likely to beat you in the head with a flail. I don't want to know. In fact, I think the first time someone said they were an alt of someone else (besides Sano) was yesterday.
The only way I'd ever want to know is if a good friend that I've gotten to know OOC decides to completely change characters over to another one.

This is probably the most true statement I have heard about alts. I have a friend who plays Lusternia frequently (I am not going to name drop), but he has about 4 different characters he uses. I don't think anyone besides me, him, and maybe a couple other people he may have told know this because he is able to handle himself well. He also usually just plays one character each day rather than switching back and fourth during a time of crises. That way, it is possible to minimize the information you have and it makes it a little easier to RP.
Since the orignal character is from a different realm, I wouldn't count it is an alt at all. I would count it is just playing another game. It is sort of like me and Dungeons and Dragons. I bring some of the characters I make in Dungeons and Dragons into this world. Just because a couple people may know who they are, it doesn't make them alts, really.
Urazial2007-05-07 05:45:36
The only time I object to alts is when they let me know as in me getting a tell saying they are an alt and their main character so and so. That's just... bleh. Someone from another IRE is a bit different, as the similarities between the games are close enough that you can go to another one and have at least a basic understanding of what's going on. As for Kaela, Urazial is happy as a clam with her and really impressed
Anarias2007-05-07 06:44:30
Agreed. Alts sending you tells of any kind that talk about their altiness is just aggravating.
Arix2007-05-07 07:10:40
or people who send you tells that include inflrmation that was obviously gained OOC, but you can't say anything without proof. Also, it really does depend on the person. You get people like Clise, who has several alts, and is a decent person, as are the alts I am aware of. Then you get complete asshats like Sano, or Annabelle (may he rot for that credit BS) or others I can think of, who make a bunch of annoying alts that are as bad or worse than the original.
Also, sometimes it's nice getting a novice from another IRE, and not have to explain as much

Soraka's probably got the most alts around, the worst he gets is being called novinha on the forums (to my knowledge. with so many alts I wouldn't know how other orgs treat his characters)
just about everyone can respect alts to treat them as they would anyone else, though of course if I were helping out a novice, i might teach a lot faster if I suspected an alt or some experience and that's cause when I was a novice i just wanted to get the lessons over with and start exploring and learning other things. and if people needed more help then they got it.

I never mentioned Soraka. I'm talking about the REALLY annoying alt-makers, like Sano and Annabelle, and that guy that cheated on the Epicure election with alts, whose name I forget. I may not like Soraka, but I wouldn't put him in the same category as those others.

i didn't? I just said he's got the most right now and he's not treated badly i don't think. Sano and all his alts are an extreme case where they immedately get shrubbed.

So, what the others are saying is that no, it isn't a problem, but most people really don't want to hear who you were =P
When I still played Lusternia and gave novice introductions, if the novice seemed quite familiar with the IRE basics, I would ask them in an OOC tell if they were from another IRE game, and if they said they were, I would use quick comparisons to explain things much faster OOCly.
For instance, rather than spending the time explaining how INVOKE CIRCLE works in character, I would just mention in character how to invoke a circle of protection, and then in an ooc tell say that invoke circle = unlimited shield tattoos and invoke nullify (16 lessons on) = unlimited hammer tattoos. I always found those skills important to explain, but loathe trying to explain detailed game mechanics in an IC context if I can trivially avoid it.
However, no, you won't be discriminated against ingame or on these forums for coming from another IRE, that's just silly. Of course, there's no need for people to really know ingame unless you talk to people often in OOC clans/tells/messages a lot... And remember, like, 80% of the playerbase of Lusternia started in another IRE game =P When Lusternia came out, the initial playerbase was almost entirely former IRE players from other games who had heard about this one opening.
Aison2007-05-07 10:04:10
I was a transfer from another IRE game. I knew the mechanics of how Lusternia worked (shops, most emotes, clans, general stuff like that), but that doesn't mean that as soon as I got out of the portals I was using every emote I knew and saying how I knew what I was doing. I did act like a newbie, because I knew I was a newbie to that (read: this) game. Most people fell for it.
Lusternia is completely different from the other IRE games. Like Simimi said, if you're a respectable character you'll have no problems, but if you're an annoyance and a brat, you'll be held with viscious contempt.
So try not to be annoying (shouting constantly, always jumping/licking/snuggling people (unless you're a Serenwilder, I guess), being rude, bitching on CT or being emo on CT, etc), and everything should be okay.
Yeah. My 2 cents. Good luck!

IRE muds are seperate games. It's like saying you played Chrono Trigger, and you decide to try out Final Fantasy VI and you're an 'alt' because the two games have similar concepts.
You can only be an alt if you have a character on the same game, and if you aren't the main I guess.

People who tell me they have an alt, I always treat more harshly and then use tells such as (ooc "sorry bud, just roleplaying! ) I get the best of both worlds that way.
