Pretty simple question, I'm curious as to those longtime warrior archetypes in how much they feel Forging is or isn't an important part of being successful as a warrior. Sure you can find people to do it for you.. but when it comes down to pounding out the best weapon possible that you want.. and of course the masterarmour as well, is forging very important? Or is it just a nicety to be able to do your own weapons and armour.
Trying to decide if I should go with forging for the sake of my archetype and ensuring I've the best armour possible, or take another tradeskill for other means. Considering poisons mainly as the first choice otherwise.

Fullplate is very nice, forging runes are 800cr savings in stats essentially, and the ability to forge at your leisure is an asset of course. It's worth it, but be warned it's not very profitable on any consistent basis and enough forging will turn you into a monkey.

I'm glad I chose Herbs as a trade skill. Someone else can spend all the time at the forge, and I'll make all the profit doing something that's at least a little more interesting.

800 cr in savings, has a real wow factor from the runes that I hadn't thought about. But does those runes make.. the monotony of forging and it's rather lack there of in profit not matter? To someone like Ixion, I wonder, if you could have all that you've invest in forging back, including the time you've spent, would you still choose forging again as a warrior?

Heh.
Don't get too blown away by the 800 creds of savings. Any skilled enough forger can etch any sword. I get my swords regularly re-etched by forgers, while having an entirely different skillset.
Edit: I should add though, that I had trans forging once. Fullplate is v. useful, and frankly.. life is just easier if you forge your own swords.

And I am going to get +10 runes just for the extrarunes, which I add to the forgingrunes as well.
Seriously though, if you like trying for different fightingstyles, you should go forger. Costs less to forge yourself weapons as you'd like to try them out.

Forging is nice for you and you alone. If you don't buy outside credits often, take up a trade that makes you IG money though. People all seem to think that top end weapons should cost less than the comms it took to make them and people will not buy (unless the truely understand) 100k+ weapons. Then again if you go forging first you will have alot more respect for the forger and know truly how time consuming it is when you spend a RL week at a forge trying to get a weapon to fight with.
