Every time you find monks in a MUD they are in some form derived from Kung-Fu and Shaolin.
For an interesting change there should be normal Franciscan Friar like monks that use the Gregorian Chant and get slaughtered by viscious Viking hordes.

All of you should be thinking of one thing...
How do you know if the Illithiod quest won't bring another archetype.

We have those, called Cantors

Actually, there were hints. The term cenobite or cenobitic is actually a term for Monk. People keep thinking of Hellraiser but that's where Clive Barker got the word (thinking of his creations as a cross between S&M people under a demonic Catholic-like order). The words been used recently with Bruce Cordell's contributions to Psionics in D&D 3e.
I shoulda figured that out...it was a pretty good hint.

I'm very very excited to see the monks... I think I might switch.
All the speculation I've heard so far is that they will have the kata mentioned in the post, then recycled secondary and tertiary skillsets. Is this true, or are our wonderful staff cooking up something special?

It's always special and different when it comes to Lusternia. Thought you knew that by now.

Bards using tarot/ecology/illusions...?

I am also interested in seeing how the new monk class turns out. If psionics are included in the archetype’s skill choices, I wonder if they will be changed a bit to make them work well with an active skill-set?

My irk is that I got killed by them kephera with serpent up. And no not by telepathic attacks, but sheer kicking etc. Stupid queen and her minions

Umm. I don't like this. At all. I kind of want to rant about it.
Kephera Monk is just gonna be Horkval Monk from Achaea, and Horkval Monks were the biggest pains in the arse I'd ever known from an IRE game. The only bad thing about Horkval Monks were their low intelligence and even then that was really... not a big deal for the basher or fighter.
I really hope this will not make the scales uneven and make people want to go female Kephera monk and bash to Titan.

Sorry. While I'm happy that everyone is excited for a new archetype; however, don't you think it's a bit soon?
I just think it's a bad idea in general. Seeing as how we already have a somewhat low playerbase, and I don't see it getting a dramatic increase anytime soon. Plus, Bards just came out about.. not even a year ago? Plus, they still need a lot of work. I can predict Bards completely going extinct because of this, and I doubt I'm the only one who can see that happening.
There's also the fact that if another org comes out, how are you going to add five new guilds? If we keep the current archetypes we have and make no more.. Then you have 15 new guilds that will be made with Gaudiguch, Hallifax, and Ackleberry. It's discouraging to think about, especially with the current player population.
While I think it's a good idea and quite possibly a good addition, I just think it's WAY too soon to add another archetype. Especially when the one before it needs work.

Don't be silly. I could care less about bards, but monks perk my interest.

I think a lot of people will jump to be Kephera Monk, Tael. Unfortunately. I can see a lot of people leaving their guilds and reincarnating for it (even though it is pretty exciting, monks ARE incredibly fun to play, but this just seems like Lusty is copying Achaea...).

Female Kephera? They'd suck as monks, don't you mean male?
But even so, just because both Lusternia and Achaea are going to have 1. Monks and 2. Bug people, it doesn't mean bug-people monks will be exactly the same in both games. On the contrary - I believe Lusternian monks will be as different from Achaean ones as are Lusternian warriors from their other-IRE equivalents (where being a warrior is boring, and PvP is simply a venomfest).
As for the third skill, I really hope Monks will receive something original - please no Psionics! Not only it wouldn't work very well for them (apart from Telekinesis for PvE), since Psionics are mostly active, but also it would be such a total rip-off from other IRE games, and that's something we want to avoid - right? Besides, activating Psionics requires entering an archway located at your org's respective Elemental plane, something which Communes do NOT have - so it's unlikely. A fully new skill here would be a great choice! I have no idea what though...
The secondary skill, however, could and probably will be Acrobatics. Fits the theme very well, useful from both a PvP and PvE point-of-view and... well, it just fits!
EDIT: Kephera Monk? Sucky combo if you ask me. Depending on how powerful DEX and STR will be for the archetype, the clear winners are either Faelings or Krokani (15 DEX, 16 STR!).

I highly doubt game mechanics for monks are going to be anywhere similar to Achaea monks. I do think Kephera will be considerably good as monks and severely tankier than most monks, but there's no reason to presume that they'll be like horkval monks in Achaea.
For people saying this is too soon: Monks will probably only come out roughly a year after bards did.

Contrary to Cuber, I'm very interested in seeing how a commune form of psionics may be integrated into a monk class.

My Akrabi monk in Imperian kicks arse! And he is a bug, but he has a cool what you would call here charybdon stinger. I don't think I would make a Kephera monk without being able to wear at least leather and a shield under my leather (like you can in Imperian)
Anyways..... yeah I wanted a more sneaky assassin style with phase and tracking, but hey..... Monks are just great too. Anything to me is better than a bard.... So to all of you who jumped the bard bandwagon soooo soon. Stick with it... Just because there is a new wagon, don't fall off yer own. Remember 0 earwort = Attraction + an 8 second instakill which > than any other kill out right now.... Enjoy that someone stripped the whole Earth Plane of Earwort again!!!!
