I am done arguing here, argue in that forum in Veris sig, where you can insult each other all you want, I got more interesting IC stuff to discuss.
Verithrax2007-05-17 20:04:05
IE, Verithrax is right and Ashteru is wrong.
That's a reference to Spellcasting 101: Sorcerers get all the Girls, which is an interactive fiction game kind of like the first Porky's movie, but with wizards. And yes, it would be awesome.

Plants don't work the way they work in RL in Lusternia, niether do genetics. I am not sure why you think they do.
In Lusternia, your "genetics" are a result of your "memory."
In Lusternia, plants don't use light to grow.

That presumably determines your race and age and possibly family, not your description.

How'd you figure that? And no, it doesn't. Atropos in the beginning asks you what you remember being; that's a plot device for the player's own choice of race, but doesn't imply that it's actually determined by what the character remembered. ICly, it is understood the character was that gender, race and class all along - Just couldn't remember it until prompted by Atropos.

Look, I really don't want to take this thread for arguments, I try to be civil nowadays.
But see, do the descriptions describe, for example, the fingers and toes of the Illithoid?

Actually, yeah, what Verithrax said makes sense. That's why reincarnations are assumed to be "remembering" your true race. So techincally, yes, your thoughts "determine" what your genetics are, but what they "really" are is predetermined.
Yes.

Fingers, anyway.
Ashteru2007-05-17 20:28:35
Okay, so...nowhere it specifies the NUMBER of fingers and toes.
Would you be okay with an Illithoid having 100 of each?

Reincarnations, changelings and the initial race selection are based on your body forming around your soul, with your soul being based on what you remember, the death messages as well. (i.e., first you have your soul/memory and then your physical body forms around that, not the other way around.) For further examples of this, think of the non physical planes such as Astral and the Cosmic planes. What "genetics" does an angel have, such that it goes *poof* on while alive, but not if its dead? You can either argue that its the same with a -large- amount of suspension of disbelief, or you can view it differently with less suspension of disbelief.
During the death sequence, I as a changeling, get told that "Yes you were born a Human" etc, etc, even though I'm only a human currently. Your "initial" race of what you were born is not recorded or known.
Walk around Glomdoring and Etherglom for the Lusternia properties of what makes plants in Lusternia work. You can also look at the Shadowvale arena.
You can't base any argument about Lusternia on real life science. Sometimes they are the same, and sometimes they are not the same. Just because one aspect of it appears to be the same, does not mean that all aspects of the nature are the same, nor may you make that inference.

According to you, only the descriptions count. But in the descriptions, the number of fingers or toes is never mentioned. You'd have to take the racial pic for that. Which, accrording to you, is wrong. So how many fingers DO they have?

Only the descriptions count when they contradict something standardIRL (or the character art). They don't need to describe standard things like fingers unless they don't have five, or they aren't shaped stereotypically.

Given that it's unmentioned, we can assume that it sticks to the norm and has five on each hand.

Wherever does it say that five fingers are the norm?
And why does the character art suddenly count ? I think you are contradicting yourself there, bud.

All Lusternian playable races are very humanoid, most almost exactly human. Therefore, all Lusternian races have typical humanoid hands unless otherwise specified. Sorry, you lose. Stop posting.

Cute. Blocking me on MSN because you are losing an argument there, and now trying to argue on with me here.
Okay, let me recapture:
No description says anything about stubs on the head, Characteart has stubs on the head. Description counts, characterart doesn't.
No description says anything about number of fingers and toes, Character does. Description doesn't, Characterart does.
Contradicting yourself and just arguing to win, tsk.

I didn't block you, I signed off, because I'm about to do something else, and that's completely unrelated. You really didn't need to be so immature as to bring that up and attempt to use it as ammo.

ZOMG PERSONAL ATTACK, PERSONAL ATTACK.
Really, though, once you start using your brain, you'll realize Verithrax and myself correct. Until then, it was (almost) nice arguing with ya.
EDIT: Oh, you edited your post. Read what I posted. I said it is assumed that they have humanoid hands, IE, 5 fingers. Just as it is assumed their heads are normal, until the description says that they are large and bald. You can stop grasping for straws.

Oh, I don't need ammo against you, I just found it amusing, considering how you always go on and on about "You can ignore me if you want, I R THE UBERTROLL, HRHR" and stuff, and then you shy away from a small argument.

Yeah, I editted it.
And of course, you and Verithrax are right, how could I doubt that! And now, after I said that, please go and do the required boosting of each others ego whereever you do it, and leave people who just play to have fun alone.
