I don't get that... I only get that the taint was a manifestation of his power or essence as he spread out after trying to escape... It never said that she hadn't any of her own, only that she was weakened. Perhaps too weak to produce much taint of her own. Plus, the whole thing is from her POV... and she's claiming to be the strongest... but I'm pretty sure everything else has said that Kethuru was the strongest.
Kethuru is currently the strongest, As Illith finds out at the end of the story. Illith used to be the strongest but isn't anymore.
The only time taint is even mentioned is in connection with Kethuru, seemingly when he was first released. Every other soulless is associated with devouring and draining and sucking, only Kethuru "only taints above"

I could debate it this with you endlessly Daganev, but I know that nothing I say will change your mind because debates on these forums turn into flamefests and troll bait.

Or you know, you could just post your reasoning.

It relies on extentive observation of the Undervault, the Great Illithoid Prison, and readings of the Elder War histories. If you want it, PM me or something.

Ahhh.
Somebody already explained that if Illith sucked up any taint, then when she split, the taint would be in the area as well. You would have to have some evidence that she tainted the place before Kethuru was released in project Cosmic hope.
Currious what info you have from the elder war histories though, since thats clearly before project cosmic hope.

I see someone likes my argument... heh.

We know the Soulless consume essence from the Elder Wars. We know that Illith 'ate' the Taint. We know that the essence of beings from the creches, as all Divine (except Vernals and Ascended) are, possess power. We know that half of Illith only fragmented quite recently. We know that she was also sealed quite a long time ago. I am simply making the connection that the Taint is just the essence of the Soulless Gods, that the Taint as we know it happens to be the essence of Great Ketheru, and that when the serpent broke free Illith was consuming the essence of Great Ketheru to regain her strength. This, in addition to the natural Tainted land of the Prison, leads me to believe that the Taint is simply the essence of the Soulless Gods.

Odd.
Your arguments flow fine, except that I don't see why you think that all soulless have the same "essence." You could be correct, but that just means that Taint is Kethuru's "essence" not that its the essence of all soulless.
Also odd, is that there is no mention in the blackheart regardings the first Communes attempts to "clean up" the basin.

Abeytu, Keeper of the Gardens says, "Well, that big thing happened and no

the earth itself. And we all know what happens when an Old One gets buried,

Abeytu, Keeper of the Gardens says, "That's right, it caused Taint. Or, at
least, if not the same stuff Kethuru released, something pretty nasty. The
forest crumbled, the trees curled up and started to die. Gloriana, Serenwilde,
Ackleberry, all three of the big forests began to wilt away."

Nature held its own fragile consciousness, but it was fragmented and dying, having been devastated by the divine wars. Further, those Soulless Gods who were trapped within the earth itself were poisoning these spirits of nature.
It seems pretty clear that all Soulless taint but that not all taint looks the same. Just because in the Illith statements quoted above, the taint is mentioned in connection with Kethuru doesn't mean ...anything actually. In context of everything else that's ever been said about the Soulless its obvious that its not something unique to Kethuru.

I would say its the opposite.
Mainly because of certain typos they told us to look out for during closed beta. but we can ignore that bit.
However, the Soulless in general , devour drain, consume. That would fit with trees wilting, and its what all soulless do.
Your quotes even themselves say "well, not quite what Kethuru taint is" which has a different property of destroying or draining on a different level which causes mutations instead of death. Or which causes undeath. Its a whole other creature from what I can tell, than your run of the mill soulless form of decay/death/destruction/draining.

Now that it's posted, you should move that to the pinned History Thread.
Some of this debate should be had in-game, but I know that Daganev has little time to play based on his posts on another thread. Still, it makes for good in-game drama.

Yeah, if only there were characters around who didn't already have their minds made up.

Soulless taint, birds chirp and cows go moo.
Also, pointing out that the quote says it may be "not quite" the same as Kethuru's taint and then leading into a statement saying its "a whole other creature" doesn't connect. Two sweaty guys on a train may not have exactly the same body odor but its darn certain they still reek.

I'd love to say that to a novice, but most of them are older than me so I think that'd be a bit mean towards them.
