Perhaps Monks can incorporate meditation the way Dreamweavers used sleep?
Furien2007-05-20 07:58:52
How d'you mean by that? IE, you need to enter the MEDITATE deal before you use the action?
Unknown2007-05-20 10:00:26
No. I haven't thought this idea out completely, but it doesn't make sense to have a dreamweaving clone.
What I meant by 'the way Dreamweavers use sleep' doesn't mean copy-and-paste the dreamweaving skill, but in the same essence of taking a previously mundane and common ability (that is, sleep and meditate) and to build on that.

Whats the estimated time of arrival for the monk guild anyway, are we looking at weeks, months, years??
Rika2007-05-25 10:50:25
I would say many months, closing in on years. But that's just my guess with no basis of argument. I could be totally wrong!
Unknown2007-05-25 10:52:09
They said it would be a 'many month process'.

So, you would have to be MEDitating to use certain skills, but damage takes you out of meditate, right? And you would need full balance to meditate, but while meditaitng you would be acting on psionic balances? That actually sounds interesting as a set of skills for a psionics spec, but I'm not sure this is the right one for that.
I had thought psychometa would be more about locking channels for defensive and augmentative means, rather than for lots of active actions (which is what monks do with telepathy in Achaea).
Hrm.
Shiri2007-05-25 11:13:30
Your "I had thought" on psymet is how we're planning on doing it.
Unknown2007-05-25 13:23:56
Well, perhaps locking those channels require you to be meditating?
Shiri2007-05-25 13:26:23
...why? :/

Flavour? I can imagine a monk sitting and meditating hard, and having acheived the right state of mind, manage to fortify his own body to be resistant to being cut.
It wouldn't be that much of a hassle, seeing as meditation has no equilibrum or balance loss, locking channels is similar putting up defences so not much fuss about switching locked channels in the middle of a fight, and getting out of meditation is instantaneous.
And isn't it mentioned somewhere that Psymetabolism is mostly based off real-life monks using meditation to control their qi?

That would get annoying quickly. The first problem is that impatience would stop you from raising your defenses. Also, things like aeon/choke would be made a much bigger pain. Also, psionics can be used in some cases where meditation is impossible, so it adds a further restriction to when the monk can use those abilities. It is interesting from a flavor perspective, but in reality it would just be an extra, annoying hassle.

I still don't understand. Don't you buff up before you get into a fight? Locking a channel doesn't drain anything, does it? Why would you be deffing up in choke or while impatient?

Because you might need to change midcombat, or someone might unlock your channels, or you might want to unlock one briefly to use other psionic powers. It just seems unnecessary.

Trust me. Disruption scrolls are the devil. Especially right now when eartwort is hard to get a hold of. You will have to re-lock channels in the middle of a fight.
Unknown2007-05-26 15:41:10
Ah, that makes more sense now. Ok, noted.
Dalena2007-08-31 19:19:19
I'm new to this forum thingie but anyhow, what are the possible weapons for the other 'to be' monk guilds?
Furien2007-08-31 19:22:39
Celest gets bo staves. Glomdoring gets claws. Magnagora..dunno, but there's lots of rumours.
Unknown2007-08-31 19:23:46
celest -staff glom -claws mag -chain i beleive are what they are thinking of right now
