I'm new to lusternia. Though I've played the other three IRE muds for years. I'm just curious if anyone has any suggestions on what classes and races are good for all around. I.E. combat, hunting, and RP as well as just entertaining.
Thanks,
Jester

Anything but bard is good for class.
Race varies on what class you pick.

I'm trying to debate between a Geomancer or something having to do with the communes, maybe a druid.
And why do you say not to pick a bard?

Bards are still relatively new and have more than a few issues.
Geomancer is a good pick, try it out.
edit: dont let the hilary clintons get to you though

If you can invest a few credits, Mugwump Geomancer + forcefield is a nice pick for bashing. Aquamancer Merian is a better pick, but that's up to you, really.
Also, if you can invest about 900 credits, you can get trans wicca, trans moon/night and trans planar as a wiccan, which already makes you very effective for bashing.

Forcefield is overrated.
Geo is an all-around good pick, not everyone is a masochistic basherhead like you, Ash. Shouldn't be the only factor when deciding on a class

Psh, bashing and PvP, that's where it is at!
(Plus RPing, but I can't say that, would destroy my image. <.<)

I do believe, your siggy proves otherwise

Mages and druids both involve setting up a series of rooms called a demesne which is similar to but not quite the same thing as vibes/groves - demesnes can be up to 25 rooms large and have a series of effects going in them, mostly effects that hurt/afflict/hinder enemies. They can be cast anywhere (except on a few opposing planes) thanks to the ability to expand their environment into any terrain. Mages, however, are a bit less dependant on their demesne than druids and can function outside of it, while druids are basically useless outside of it.
Bards are just weaker than the other classes right now and have a number of unresolved issues.

what exactly is forcefield and what does it do?

By this he mains, easily negated by sipping and a few skills. Unlike Imperian/Achaea/Aetolia, you are never going to kill a decently high level person with a demesne. But... demesnes screw one up enough that the mage or druid and do some other nasty stuff to you if you are caught in one, although mages from my experience have the edge here. They simply have more options, druids seem to only have one kill option, where as druids have three or four.

Forcefield is a skill that basically switches your health and ego around. So instead of mobs (and people) hitting your health, they will hit your "ego". Your ego is determinate on your charisma stat. When your ego drops to zero and you have forcefield up, you "burnout" instead of dying. Burning out means your lose a good chunk of experience and you cant use telekinetic skills for a while. It is only really viable if you have quite a bit of charisma in my opinion, but usually races with alot of charisma end up sacrificing some other stat like constitution.

Geomancers seem really cool, but I don't want to be relying on things like vibes or demenses as they are here to be able to fight. Is it like Achaea where a magicer can only kill of they have vibes up and you are unfortunate enough to get caught in them or can they be good pvp without the demense?
Hazar2007-05-19 16:47:14
Capable, decently high level mages with a psionic spec - more so Telepathy - can indeed kill outside of demesne.
Unknown2007-05-19 16:48:55
Telepath Geomancers can be a real doozy. They don't really even need a demense, its just an added bonus ... The cool thing about demesne is the option to go into "tank mode". If you're a level 85 human in a fully active demesne and you know what you're doing, you are close to untouchable.
Unknown2007-05-19 16:57:15
Alright. I think I'll give Geomancers a try. Now the really fun question...how much do they rely on getting transed in skills to be good? Because getting credits is really hard for me...

Just about every combat mage will pick Telepathy and, no, you don't need a demesne for it . Geomancer demesnes are very good offensively, but Aquamancer melds are better on defense because of curing and healing. Um, mages can get by with 50% Expert Telepathy (MindBlast is a powerful offensive skill), not sure how far Geos should go for their melds, but I'd think everyone would say Staff (which is Mythical). And unless you really want the skill badly, you can get to Reflection in Illusions and leave that skillset alone if you're pressed for credits.
Plus you could buy credits in-game, especially if your guild decides to have a credit sale. You'll usually find credit sales offer credits at about half the market price.

Double post, sorry!
Forren2007-05-19 16:59:50
Definitely not on Telekinetic Mugwump - awful charisma, so forcefield is a total waste. Forcefield is only useful when you are a merian, faeling ,or other high-cha race with low con. If Geo, go human.

magvertisment
Not to brag or anything...but I'm pretty sure Mag offers the most city credit sales and sells the credits at the cheapest price when compared to other orgs.
