I feel sad that nobody liked my frat house idea

I like Scholomance for Mag

Too much World of Warcraft for me, but the 5-man instance immediately sprung to mind. Will they get PHAT (albeit Bind-on-Pickup) loot from that?

Kidding, kidding.

As for Serenwilde, I suggest the Tree of Knowledge (of Good and Evil).
...
Okay, that was a cheap joke.
Seriously though, something among the lines of the Glade of Preparation would work great, if the name wasn't already taken by the Serenwilde arena.

I didn't know it was a WoW thing! The Scholomance is out of some supposedly Transylvanian legend (lies, dirty lies, it's about as Transylvanian as Bram Stoker's stuff) about a school of the devil where ten people are admitted at a time, and at the end of their training, they're given the chance to get away. The devil keeps the slowest one as payment and makes him some sort of dragon-riding badass servant.

Wow, I had hoped for a long time that the Admin would introduce something like this and now they have. Fantastic!!!
Unknown2007-05-22 13:56:53
This is a tremendous idea! It really has a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to it.

Try drinking, it makes the pain go away.

As for having a frat house, there are more than enough drunken women stumbling around Serenwilde as it is, having a frat house would just cut down on the joy of the hunt.

One, I love the idea. Very very much.

Two, ...Now I have to see what clan I can/want to get rid of. Charune, am I really needed in the Monk clan?!

I know.. Just have to keep shuffling clans around.

For the record Aetolia did change their system to more in line with their themes, but Lusternia's is MUCH better.

I like the idea behind it, it will make up for the awful state of the bard guilds and means the Geomancers can actually get people to appreciate the earth lords for once rolleyes.gif . Although it will require a reshuffling of requirements for promotion all around I'm sure.

For Magnagora it would be fun if it could relate to something in their history more than a stereotype of undeath. ie. House of the Fallen Prophets. Although anything to do with the Taint or Demonlords will no doubt be taken instead, not that it's a bad thing though. My idea is Sepulchre (sp?) of Tainted Truth or anything different smile.gif.

Love the idea... hate the idea of Shadows being part of the name for Glomdoring.

Where does that leave Crow devotees or bards?

Personally, I'd prefer something with Wyrd in the title. THe Wyrd so far I think is underdeveloped in Glom culture.

also, collegiums should be made with monks in mind.

I cannot say if I like this new idea yet or not. From what I understand from the announce post, and from what others have said in this thread, it simply seems to me just another "newbie" area for novices to explore, and some city/commune related quests instead of going off to save some finks and gnomes whom we dont care about anyways. so ok. That's fine. I'm all for more areas for novices to muddle about it, Newton Caverns does so get crowded with just 4 newbies.

When I first read the announce, I thought the Admin was trying to implement a system which both Celest and Magnagora already have in place for newbies in form of city clans, (dont think Seren and Glom do, not sure). If so, the same question that is asked when those clans were set up, has to be asked now, is the system there to remove guild identity and promote city/commune identity? Will guilds be forced to "retrain" the mindsets of their novices once they have completed this Collegium?

I for one, certainly would want to know a LOT more about this new system before blindly casting a vote for or against this new system, with this little information being made available.

Umm, thats why you join the clan devoted to it in your city/commune and have your input listened to there.
Noola2007-05-22 16:37:26
I'd think of it more like two different levels of schooling... the basic education (like RL k-12 schooling) where you learn how to get around, a little of the history of the world, so on. Then, when you graduate that you begin focusing on guild-specific learning (like going to college and majoring in something) you learn all your guild stuffs just like you do now and of course, continue with more indepth basics.

I don't see how this could undermine the identity of the guilds, especially since it'll be city/commune specific... it's not like they're throwing novices of all over the Basin into one big pot or anything...
Unknown2007-05-22 16:46:27
Scholomance is a very bad idea. Please don't go there. Ever.

We could call it the Iniquitous Lyceum, an already established long time "learning" clan in Mag. The Midnight Lyceum?

Anyways, names are just a superficial issue. I really think some of the basic principles of lusternia should be explained in the collegiate process. Laying down what these principles are I think is key to giving a new player a strong foundation to go on when starting off.

What is Aetherspace?
What are the planes?
Who are the Elder Gods?
Why do certain orgs not like each other?
etc.

Druken2007-05-22 16:49:57
It can only ADD to the identity of the guilds. The different nations are a huge part of what makes up a guild, and these give the novice a chance to understand what, say, the Glomdoring is before they're thrown into the guild's training program.

If it works out, I think it'll take a huge burden off the guild leaders of the Basin. It's hard to explain what the Pool of Stars is to someone who is completely new to the MUDding world.
Shorlen2007-05-22 16:55:54
My stance is - anything is better than what is currently in place.
