As I was walking to work today, I was thinking how cool it would be to have a little area that is part of the Collegium that is usable just by novices, and is a free pk area. You walk into it, and you can fight anyone you see, over and over again.

The point behind it would be so that young novices who have previous experience in other IRE games, or in Lusternia are able to work on basic curing systems (ie: sipping health and mana and bromides as aliases, minor standup reflexes etc.) It could be against other novices, or it could be against all the novices (have a little arena that can be entered whenever to fight, accessible from every collegium) and also maybe against preset mobiles that wouldn't necessarily have to give experience, but maybe programmed so that when a novice tells that mob to knock them down, or to afflict with stupidity or something like that, they would auto hit once, giving said affliction, so that they can test out their stuff. Of course if you end up dieing while in there you would 'reconglut' at the entrance that is located in your collegium.

This idea could also apply to mid-level people. I remember being level 20-30 and wishing that I could get the trigger responses I wanted, without being schooled over and over by a skilled combatant (which seems to happen at 55 as well...).

Also, maybe have a whole section of the collegium set towards reflexing... being a secretary, it would help with all the novices we already have to deal with, to have something to help out with the countless questions that will always be raised. Maybe have different tutors in the collegium to teach about different clients... one for Zmud, one for Cmud, one for Mushclient, -definitely- one for Nexus (seems a lot of questions come from Nexus). It can just be simple help, like how to set up variables and aliases for a simple targetting and macroed attacking system. Obviously the rest of the info about curing will need to be taught by either forums or by mentoring in game, but perhaps this little jumpstart would help. I for one would be willing to contribute information about how to set up aliases and targetting in simple words for Mushclient, and I'm sure there are others like Tervic, Iasmos and Ethelon that might be interested in helping too (probably lots of others as well, I just don't know who they are).

Felt this idea was too good to just throw away. I'm open to any ideas and modifications that you guys feel would be correct, but I think this is a really cool idea... albeit, it will take a lot of work. And I mean A LOT.

Collegiums should be in-character, and having denizens that teach novices about OOC clients and programming would make collegiums lose their appeal.

I like the idea of a small arena of PvP area for the novices to duke it out. They could practice their combat without paying a fee or trying to find someone their own size (because they're all about the same size and skill level in there).

No teaching about clients, though. Organizations or word-of-mouth will take care of that, eventually.

That's a good point. I just think we need a more structured approach to teaching the novices about clients, I think it would help retain newbies more.

I -really- like the free novice arena though, and I'd like to keep lobbying for it biggrin.gif
