People consider this a grab for attention? Huh?
Well, don't give a damn about them. If you ask me, it'd actually be worse to ask an admin (divine are an IC term) to set these things up for you. What we have here is player initiative, dammit. If someone doesn't like this - sly buggers can sod off.

The reason I do these things was to give the players something to do.
Sounds like a certain massive aether project I know that people love. Funnel money into that, at least you'll see something tangible, more than a fleeting happiness. No offense, but it almost feels like the kid in school who gives money to people, and they become his friends, but are then always on the lookout for when he might act as their piggy bank.

Would it help if I got a God or Goddess to back me up so it was "anonymous", and people didn't realize it was from me--like give them the gold and the idea? That might be ideal, that way it wouldn't be seen as a grab for attention and get the attention off me.
Once you do that, you've become the ultimate tool, because not only are you giving away free money you've earned, you're now buying credits to give (gold or credits, or whatever) to them in a completely anonymous way. You'll be paying for the admins to run events, with your own money, when they can push a button and generate the same money for free. It's kind of sad if you think about it.

Well, technically this is a diversion. People usually pay subscription fees for WoW and other games. I see credits similar to that. I mean, this is all fantasy, we're not buying "real world" property. By that right, if I take my friends out to dinner I lost money I could've paid for a book.
To discuss my motivation Richter, it's to see players happy--I like to see the players happy. My motivation is to amuse the players and the admin when I can. If I felt I wasn't doing that, I wouldn't. Whether it's an in-game chat with players about life and stuff, selling or giving away credits so people who can't afford to buy them OOC can have fun, having contests so people can win sums of gold for doing little fun things. And it's in character too--my character had a kind heart.
A god can auto-generate gold, but would they have thought of getting people to paint all 12 astral creatures? Shorlen had fun doing it, so did Viravain, and another player liked where and how I hung the final paintings. The point being if people were concerned I was doing it to gain favor or attention, doing it anonymously would prevent that but still give me the satisfaction of pleasing the player base, and get rid of the "accusations" of me being in a "beauty contest". (Admittedly, I've been a bit credit happy on the market channel, so I'll tone that down.)
Maybe I'll just bide my time and wait for the anniversary.

I don't see what the problem is with Phred buying credits to fund his own prizes for events. I do something similar, though not on that scale. Quite often when Noola holds wargames or slippers or even ratting contests, I give out credits as prizes... those are credits I bought. I don't do it because I'm trying to 'buy' any friendships or anything stupid like that. I do it because #1 it's my money and they're my credits and I want to do it, and #2 because trying to get credits from orgs to hand out for prizes is like trying to get blood out of a turnip! You have to contact too many different people and wait for replies to requests, and that's all well and good for big events where you have days and days of notice, but for a spur of the moment ratting contest or wargames? I'd rather just use my own than have to wait.

Use your own and apply for compensation. Normally, I'd say the org wouldn't trust the person, but you're Noola, so it should work.

I get more annoyed by "lots of shouting" than the actual quests themselves. Like, "Tully is the greatest Dwarf in the Basin." What kind of quest is that? Ugh.
So: Space them out more, smaller prizes so you're not stretching yourself, and try to limit the stupid shouts.

If people thinks you're doing it to call attention to yourself, saying that you are going to do it anonymously won't solve anything because everybody who has read this thread knows it's you doing it anyway so their "complaint" stays the same unless it's an IC complaint wich somehow I doubt. I think the claims that you're on a "beauty contest" are more OOC than IC.
Then how do you justify your character having such kind of money for prices? tips from satisfied customers? The RP of all this crashes a bit with me but then anything is justificable I guess. Would have a bit more logic if for example was Richter doing it as a marketing strategy for Deepnight or something.
