First you assume a city made it. Second you assume it can be moved.

Move as in.. make a new one that -doesn't- go through the forest. That's 'moving' enough!

Secondly, why would Serenwilde want a road.. suspicious.gif
Anarias2007-06-01 07:17:57
Duh, wizards made the road with magic and if you try to remove it it will blow up the world. Kinda like how the Soulless can't be killed without blowing up the world and how the serpent couldn't be killed without blowing up the world...

Surely there are more subtle explanations?
Amarysse2007-06-01 07:21:31
Tsk. Give people a "new" goddess and they start getting greedy. tongue.gif

Thank you for all the welcomes, everyone! It took me this long to get my forums account to be set up again. But I am pleasantly surprised at your enthusiasm! grin.gif laugh.gif

You'd rather have cityfolk stomping around aimlessly through the forest-proper and trampling on new growth? If they're going to go from point A to point B, might as well make them get there as quickly as possible with no detours or getting lost.

Still, would've been nice if the road could've been elevated above the forest or dug as a tunnel going below. I am, however, still plenty happy that we were able to do that unification ritual ages ago to unite northern and southern into one zone!

That's freaky. I was just browsing through the old Seren posts to find the one that talked about wizards making the roads out of adamantium and you just quoted some of the debate that surrounded the road removal almost verbatim.

Anyway, this is the info as was presented to Serenwilde back on 12/30/2005:

QUOTE
After discussion with Lady Lisaera, it was learned that the roads
contain an old magic of the Ritualists. A magic that binds them as one
and so the destruction of one road would require the destruction of all
roads at the same time. A power with which we are unable to muster, nor
would it be prudent to do so just to see our forest unscarred.

I still don't see the problem. dunno.gif

The same reason that parks and reserves have paths? So hundreds of people don't go tramping around wreaking the rest of the forest, they stick on the paths.

It's one possible explination, at least.

Edit:Oh, ninja.gif 'ed by Tsuki.

Really? Nice! I can consider myself a good Seren, then. happy.gif No, I wasn't quoting, but writing. Unless I was quoting myself ... depends on how old those "old Seren posts" were. unsure.gif

And if I was quoting myself, at least I'm consistent!

Still doesn't mean we have to have the road go right through. As Tzuki said, use glamours to make rainbows to elevate it above the forest (Ialie would love it!) or dig a tunnel below. Or make a new road that runs along the edge of the Inner Sea to the south of the forest.

Besides, I don't think we'd have to really 'destroy' it. Just start planting saplings and have nature slowly reclaim the ground. If no one used the road to travel anymore I'm sure it would only be a matter of time!

PS: From what I heard that unification ritual was awesome. And looking at it now, how did you -ever- manage to defend that forest without it?! Jesus..
Anarias2007-06-01 07:45:25
If y'all want to go back and relive this very discussion it starts at Seren news #1485 and concludes on #1491. Seriously, its the same arguments for and against.
Shiri2007-06-01 07:46:35
That's hardly old. Anyway, I don't really mind having the road anymore, thanks to the place being one area, and thank goodness (and Charune) for that. It was HORRIBLE before.

Still can't bring guards to the northern part of the forest, I think. sad.gif

Yes, you can ... if you go along the river.

Though, now that I remember the river I guess the road couldn't've been a tunnel after all. sad.gif
Shiri2007-06-01 07:48:44
You have to flow.

Can too if you flow...

And I'd rather just have it gone for two main reasons:

(a.) It just doesn't seem to fit.

(b.) Every once in a while -certain- people (read enemies) like to trample the road up and down and up and down to provoke us. Of course it's all 'don't declare they only want to get suspect / venegeance on you!', which is fine. But then sooner or later a random Seren newb comes along gets attacked by that enemy. And we're still unable to remove them.

Just attribute it to Lisaera's timewarping powers that have made us all relive the times when she was around in the beginning.

...or something.

OK, that is definitely not the original Lisaera. Her post was far too nice and it contained smilies. A post by the original Lis would have been thoroughly mocking and sarcastic.
