I'm sure Estarra knows, but she's not confirming or denying.

There's a lot of mystery to the Soulless and to Lusternia in general. People should embrace that rather than arguing about the "one true Canon way", especially as this is an active game that's going on and nobody wants to spoil the mystery.

From what I can tell, most of the people responding here about the Illithoids have been agreeing with this. The mechanics aspect was mentioned, but every post where it was, it was also mentioned that that mechanics aspect did not drive the roleplay or give a concrete answer one way or the other.

In all my time as a Celestine, I never noted the death message from the symbols. Neat tongue.gif

It was just added. You're so clueless tongue.gif.

Please stop driving off topic! This is not about whether illithoids have souls! This is about whether things that aren't shards of Divine have souls.

0_0 An SG-1 fan?

I mean. I thought everything had a soul or a thread in the tapestry of life. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the next books say.

I knew Refugee couldn't have a soul!
Nerra2007-06-09 23:48:50
Of course illithoids have souls! They can contemplate their own existance! (Draconis, 8:6)
But then again, they are soulless, and the soulless have no souls, so how could they break up into something wife a soul?

Ergo, it's not been defined anywhere (He possibly never foresaw this argument), or, Estarra is saving it up for a revelation at some later date.

As the local curmudgeon, I'm inclined to think the former is more likely.

I'm betting neither is likely.

It's probably meant to be about the same as the Wyrd-- ambiguous. (Though Estarra may have a personal opinion on it, it's still something we're "supposed to make up our own minds on.")

That would've been my guess too.

I think they lack a soul, but the worm does almost the same thing as a soul.

Yeah. The issue is whether that makes it close enough to an "actual" soul to count as one anyway.

Or the soul could be twined with the worm, somehow.

could someone point me too where it says the soulless actually don't have souls? I always assumed it was just a term and that Soulless had souls and they were called soulless because of they were so destructive.

From the Cosmogenesis history page,

QUOTE
The Soulless Gods
Upon the worlds and planes that Dynara created, she also created life. Her first attempts to create life were monstrous abominations without a soul or spirit. Though at first she considered them to be her greatest triumphs, she came to view them as her greatest failures. They came to be called the Primal Gods or First Ones, also known as the Soulless Gods. Disappointed, Dynara sent these Soulless Gods to her sister Magnora for her to consume back to no-thing. But Magnora, bitter and barren, allowed them to live out of spite. Thus, the Soulless Gods became the Heralds of Magnora, traveling with her and helping her destroy and consume that which Dynara had abandoned or forgot
Unknown2007-06-11 00:56:44
Also comes from Dracnoris saying the Soulless consume everything because they desire a soul, or some such.
Hazar2007-06-11 01:09:35
Of course, in the past I've made the argument that Dracnoris had a soul, and was a Primal God, and Primal Gods = Soulless Gods, and Soulless Gods at least can have souls.
Unknown2007-06-11 01:15:05
Ok, Then that cements my theory for me. The souls the races contain are the shard of the soul of a god. The inner worm is a shard of Illith. As she has no soul she gives a living piece of her.
