Yes, I'm listening. I've been looking for a job for Grutina in Glomdoring. Thanks for the awesome idea! Glomdoring's far too quiet as it is.

Let's not and say we did? fear.gif

That...oh, my...that would be really funny and really irritating.
Veonira2007-06-11 03:28:14
I really don't like Rasshid mainly because he tends to sit at the Megalith and react to people as they walk in at times. That's really my only complaint as long as the messages are kept serious and informative (not like with Shallam's crier in Achaea who would be made to shout ridiculous things if I'm remembering correctly).

Please don't do things to make me not <3 you anymore.

Everytime i see our town crier it just irritates the hell out of me. Honestly, if someone as new to the city as rashid were to annoy me like he does, they would be crucified on sight and beaten into silence.

Similair to what we did with that chick from the greathouses who caused that trouble, lets bind and gag him and let yrael do with him as he pleases, or better yet let me kill rashid without being enemied instantly.

Rasshid d'Sifal yells, "Exciting new news! Kethuru spotted in the northern
mountains on vacation with bigfoot! Related, disgruntled igasho file claims in
the Magnagoran court district regarding racial discrimination by legitimate
press source!"

Obviously a very serious and extremely informative message!

As for my opinion on the matter, I hated criers in Achaea and I hate them here. I don't see anything that great about them at all.
Arix2007-06-11 04:09:55
don't forget when Athine had him tell people my drinks were poisoned
Unknown2007-06-11 06:52:17
Nice idea as the criers are, the yelling just really makes me wanna kill them. Rasshid sounds even worse than Aural. I think they should be all converted into just some sort of info-giver where you can go up and greet them, or ask about a certain topic, and they would say whatever they have to say on it, whether it would be in a yell or a say under the current system.

Aiakon has been petitioning the Iron Council to get his tongue cut out. I mean.. damn. The man is from a family no one has ever heard of.. he has no city rank.. and he behaves in a manner which would get any low ranking player spanked. He doesn't even bow when Aiakon enter the room! He just prattles at him and yells. He should be taught only to speak when spoken to, or publicly executed! Yay for executions - so good for city morale!
Murphy2007-06-11 13:08:07
You can have your private excecution if you get in before my private excecution.

I'm much more preferable to crushing his jaw so all he can do is drool and eat through a straw, cuttign a tongue out is too neat.
Gabranth2007-06-11 13:17:52
Besides that awful bigfoot message and Athine being the normal witch she is (Which some people adore about her) I think it is helpful and not at all annoying. The city leadership in Magnagora are soo damn quiet until they need something due the rampant elitism (another one of my hates), so people don't often know about wildnotes, library contest or such unless confronted in person or by posts that no one EVER EVER reads (much like the Geos).

*Is not hysterical about people not reading posts*

So yes to the criers keeping the information known to the masses whether they want it or not.
Unknown2007-06-11 13:39:20
There should be a better way of imparting information that isn't highly obnoxious, though. Branny had it right to say that he breaks the quiet. Not to say that Magnagora is entirely quiet (what with the bells, demon screams, and Ur'guard troop movements) but the city-wide emotes are few and far between, and more importantly they are atmospheric. I was going to try and suggest something alternate to a town crier for Magnagora more in touch with our atmosphere but it was already done and decided before I could say anything. Either that or I was too lazy to mention it. I forget.

Really wish we could decommission the guy and either replace him with something less "hi guys lemme tellz you some good nooz!" or get a method that works better than stupid yelling and is harder to ignore than the newsboards.
Noola2007-06-11 14:35:37
I don't really get why it's so obnoxious myself. I think they're neat. I think when their news gets out of date or isn't changed very often it can be a little annoying, but that's the fault of the Minister of Culture really, not the town crier.

But then, I'm not one of those who gets ticked off when people shout either.
Estarra2007-06-11 15:56:14
FYI, criers have always been an option for city and commune councils to hire if they so chose (they aren't free). Thus, they fall completely under the policies of the ruling councils.

Just so you know who to go to in-game if it really matters to you.

Are you.......implying that players should have to reverse player-initiated changes that players don't like??

Blasphemy.

I'm going on the assumption you believe Arix was right when he said that Athine is the reason that Rasshid was shouting about his poisons. She's not. Arix was complaining about him to his face, so he decided to decry him. That's what he does. He's a crier.

As far as those other generic messages re: the pretty bat, etc. Perhaps he was getting fed up with not having any news and decided to fabricate some himself?

Finally, the only people who can change his announcements are the city/commune leader, the Minister of Culture and immortals.

In which case Aiakon was right and there's a perfectly good IC reason to want him dead.

I don't see why not. But he's still loyal to Magnagora, and still will be. That won't change.

Why is this such a huge problem if they're configurable by the city admins? Is it that you cannot turn them off at all?

And there are other helpful ways for them to act, perhaps. Anyone been to newton lately and spoken with the new Dwarf? You ask questions, which leads to answers and more topics, really quite cool. I'm having my manse mob do the same thing once I have them written.
