Morgfyre made some changes to ours which I think make it highly less obnoxious. Now I'm beginning to see the benefit. Though I still think my idea of having a bodiless voice emanating from the ground is cooler than a crier.

What exactly are those changes, anyways? My experience has been with Aural Tildermain, who is highly annoying.

Rasshid says things whenever you enter the room, which people found more annoying than the yelling. Now he does that less, doesn't do it if he's at the Megalith, and will tell the Iron Council where he is if they need him to input more news. I also believe (though am not sure) that the frequency of his yelling has also decreased.

i like that a bit better. My first thought when he said something when I entered the room was "I've Lived here for years. I know. shutup or my Thrall gets a snack."

I like town criers, they make townspeople cry!
Unknown2007-06-13 00:05:58
do the communes have them? If they don't they should and they can be giant birds. Giant squaking ones that shout messages and will send tells to everyone in the commune at once. Every so often it can fly down on people's shoulders and squawk news in the person's ear till they go deaf.
the communes need crier love too
the communes need crier love too

The way I understand it-- Communes could have them if they desired to hire the things.
Heh.

Of course.
(Psst, Charune. Remember that this is the line until we spring our little surprise!)
Yrael2007-06-13 01:22:02
Why not handle it in Magnagoran fashion? Make him only able to use say, we'll ram spikes through his hands and keep him pinned to a wall west of the Megalith.

So if I find a Town Crier (what would they be called for Communes anyways?) I know exactly where to go.

Commune Carrier?
Hartstone?

If he could be set to react like that dwarf in Newton, I'd be fine. But now. He's gotta spout off every bit, jarring my damn nerves. Just council doesn't mean that idiotic things can't be put into his mouth. The "I'm bored without news thing"...kill it. Die. Let Murphy play with it.
Or make him stationary.
And can only talk in says.
THAT I'm good with.
I hate town criers. Most retarded goddamn thing ever invented. That's what NEWS POSTS ARE FOR.
....wait.
town crier = I don't have to write posts.
*ponder* Now I have to rethink this.

Personally, I'd prefer some kinda organizational newspaper over a crier. But only 'cause it'd be fun and more involving for the first few issues. It kinda tapers off after awhile.
Unknown2007-06-13 01:45:39
I believe part of the rationale beyond a crier is to remind people of ongoing events from news posts, not to replace them.
It might also help for the incredibly lazy/stubborn/stupid people who DON'T READ NEWS. Ahem.

I'm glad you do.

That was such a terrible, terrible necro...
Aison2007-09-20 20:08:54
I like criers. Don't annoy me, and keeps me up to date (when I update Aural...). But they break a lot. I wish Aural would tell the Star Council where he is when we need him though.
