Bards are great, but it would be fun if we had more instruments. Instruments that couldn't be used in combat songs of course, but had their own single uses as well as roleplay.
Artisans can craft
Panpipes (When played by a bard they can cause people to follow them)
Bells (When played by a bard they can wake people up!)
Flutes (When played by a bard they have a chance to entice a soul to follow them, if the souls will power is greater then it will not work) or. maybe they can just cause animal mobs to follow them.

Also
Perhaps a whistle for some sort of domination skill! (Hope!)

Hmm! I like the flute idea, and the panpipes. Bells seem loud. But still neat!

Play the triangle to call them home for dinner?

Oooh this would be great. I have been asked so many times by novices if they can get a flute, heheh. How about larger instruments, like pianos or organs? These wouldn't be portable of course, and would act mostly like furniture.

I'd love to have a flute, though I'm not sure about your suggested ability. Maybe sends you to sleep or pacifies mobs?

Flute: Attracts rats.

Before you know it, people will be playing bagpipes and accordions, causing mass insanity across the Basin!

Dude, bagpipes are awesome!
Aiakon2007-06-11 17:45:33
I'd love to see an organ installed in the d'Murani tower.

To quote a Farside comic:
Welcome to heaven, here's your harp.
Welcome to hell, here's your accordion.
Therefore, make Accordions a Magnagora-only instrument.

Flutes would be nice, and organs would be crazy cool.

If we implemented this, I'd love to see Bards get a lot more mini-skills instead of breaking the skill tree, with different instruments causing different effects. Thus, you have a few skills that can only be done with certain instruments. Say, a horn could be used to break barriers or summon ents, while an unmovable piano or fixed harp (in a manse or urban environment) could be used for some sort of ritual-like thing (scrying, increased healing, etc). It would also be nice if some of these were not blocked by deafness (maybe the horn does sonic "force" damage).

Ocarina?

Ocarina?
Only if it controls time!

Man, that's a cool instrument.
I would think if the admin implement new "instrument-specific" mini-skills, they'd classify them by the broad classifications (string, woodwind, brass, keyboard, percussion), and let the artisans come up with all the specific implementations. You'd have skills for the basic type and the bards and artisans would come up with specific instruments.
