Well I was looking through the Tarot skillset and I love how many of the cards are directly related to the history of Lusternia. However, some cards don't seem to have this link and those would be Magician, Hangedman, Fool, Hermit, Empress, Lovers, Aeon, and Lust. After reading through the histories I was able to come up with some more or less concrete links for these cards. I was hoping maybe the AB messages could be changed just for RP flavor more than anything.
1. Magician could be linked to Yudhe in the sense of him being the first real consciousness with thoughts and mind.
2. Fool would be linked to Vestera in the sense that she is the master of Illusions and she is the only Vernal that doesn't have a link in Tarot.
3. With Hermit I thought of the Son of Yudhe and how he disappeared from existence to the alternate reality.
4. With Empress I thought of Dynara and how she sought to protect her creations and keep them close to her.
5. With Aeon I thought of the lost cities and Project Paradox and how they were ripped from time.
6. Finally with Lust I thought Magnora would be a good candidate as she always lusted after Dynara's ability to create.
However, I was unable to really think of any good historical links with Hnagedman and Lovers. So I decided to make a topic to see if this would be a good idea to just make some Tarot abilities a bit more entwined into Lusternian history and was wondering if anyone could think of good links with Hangedman and Lovers. I also found it kind of weird that Moon was the only real card that had links to a nature spirit but that was just an Achaean copy more or less.

I think there should be a minor tarot skill.

No, I'm serious. You have the cups, wands, swords, and coins. You can have them ranked and give them powers. Maybe a standard power with different ranks. It might be nice.
(And to Kalodan, who is reading this thread and using Verithrax's forums to reply, don't be some damn arrogant. Minor Tarot might be a good addition. I love how my ideas are "so bad, pointless, and inane" the Mystic Maze becomes part of Glamours, and the tower idea I noted became the germ that eventually morphed into nexus worlds. Sheesh.)

What, like, each suit would get a power and then the number of the card would dictate how strong or how reliable?

Honestly, that's not being "so damn arrogant", that's the truth. Though, you are improving.

Yeah, or there are 4 basic afflictions and then a power that's weak or strong.
I just don't know enough about traditional tarot.
The pentacle could be protection.
The wand could be a magical attack.
The sword could be a physical attack.
The cup could be healing.
Then you could have a number 1-10 and the page, knight, queen, and king.
Maybe it's something the higher the number, the more powerful. For instance, a pentacle might protect from 500 points of damage per invested power, the wand a magical or elemental attack, the sword a cutting attack, the cup health. The court suite could stack stuff.

The associations can also be
Pentacles = Earth
Wands = Fire
Swords = Air
Cups = Water
The only way it might work is if you had specific combinations that did specific things, otherwise you would have 56 skills/14 skills(one for each number but has four different skills OR you only got the cards linked with your cities elemental plane but that doesn't work cause it's not a mage skill)

I agree.
And Tully, Nexus Worlds were originally inspired by a comment from Guido (yes, Guido, of all people).
And we don't need a common tarot skill, kthx. If you want tarot, join a damn guild.

I didn't say "common" set, maybe it's a specialization branch.
And Shamarah, it wasn't my idea alone, but we all talked about it here, so I think Veonira, Guido, and myself brought it to Estarra's ears.

I don't like your Minor Tarot idea.
Doesn't fit into the lore, we already have a card-related skill and don't need a new one, I don't like the idea of normal cards being infused with magic powers (unless we're playing Deadlands, which is set in the wild west), and the whole premise of this skill looks both boring (a new ability that lets you use 9s instead of 8s, which makes skills 12.5% more powerful? yawn...) and overpowered at the same time - 500 damage absorbed per attack? Damage + afflictions?
Of course, you also realise that most taroteers would carry only 10s, or kings - well, strongest cards at any rate. Thus making the weaker cards absolutely redundant.
Sorry to sound harsh, but you admitted yourself that you don't know enough about tarot. You're also no combatant, so you also don't know enough about combat, while this is obviously a combat skill. So, please do not post ideas on things you don't know enough about. Many of your ideas are good, but this one isn't.
Basically, and this is directed at everyone making new topics here - if you create a combat-related skill, make sure you know exactly how combat in Lusternia works. Adding stuff in just because it sounds cool is wasting time.

As rare as it is for me to agree with Cuber, QFT.

Thanks for hijacking my topic on the second post.

Tully, kindly make new topics for new, vaguely related ideas so that you do not sidetrack threads.
To get back on topic, I don't feel that all of the Tarot cards need to directly reflect the history of Lusternia. I see the Tarot cards in the skill set as representations of concepts; pictoral metaphors for actions, if you will. As such, the long-lost originator of the Lusternian Tarot deck could have come up with any image to put on the card, provided some sort of mental association could be made to draw out the power of the image. The Hanged Man is bound by ropes, so flinging the Hanged Man tarot conjures up ropes to bind the target, but it could easily be the Forest (conjures vines), the Hunter (conjures net), or the Prisoner (conjures chains). So, while each of the cards could directly represent historical things, I think that it would be just fine to leave them as they are with the more obvious metaphor set.

Doesn't Achaea already have this feature? Its nothing but a good idea to be able to draw a random card.
