I gave my account to Quidgy. 70 odd, I got there and quit a week or so after the expansion came out.

You what?
EDIT: I take it back:

1.2.8Q Know some upcoming Mage changes?
1.2.8A Iceblock will be a trainable skill instead of a talent-spell. Along side that mana-issues will be dealt with. To finish it off, mana-gems will get stronger. No ETA is given for these changes.

The bloody hell is "arena"? Something like Gurubashi? Or do you just grab a pack of people, form a team, and that's it?
Pity about SM/DS no longer being feasible (I mean, It was amazing when I re-specced how much less tanky I was. I couldn't even survive a warrior beating on me. Yeech.) sucks, but why are they a joke? Isn't the damage output still much, much higher than mages?

To summarize it up in a really short manner - the WoW arena system was put in not too long after expansion came out, to provide a highly competitive way to PvP. You can either be on a 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 team, and you compete within your battlegroup against both Horde and Alliance teams to progress up a ladder system of ratings. You gain more points for beating more difficult (higher ranked) teams, and fewer points for beating teams lower than you.
At the end of the week (Monday night) your rating earns you so many points which can be used to buy PvP gear from an arena vendor. The gear stresses resilience and survivability, and is much better than the honor gear - though there are no boots, belts, etc so you still have to farm honor to attain those. There have been two seasons so far, with the third one starting a week from now. Gaining a high rank in the season play earns you a special title as well as a special armored netherdrake mount.
The arena is my favorite thing about WoW PvP, and extremely competitive on some battlegroups. It can net you a bit of "e-fame" if you are on some of the best teams (gameriot.com frequently has blogs about such teams).
Most warlocks are 27/34, the "drain tank" spec and are enjoying immense success in all three brackets of arena play. If you wanted to come back to play, you'd definitely have an easy time finding a team that suits you. Mages are equally sought after because of their spammable CC and invulnerabilities via ice block, as well as their ability to root melee.

So it's basically old honor, except without the "Hey, you know what? Stuff shaving/.working/sleeping for the next three months, I'm going to do nothing but grind honor. Woo." And nah. I think I'll just try Destro again. I had my fill of draining as SM/DS - although it wasn't really draining, just slap dots on, fear whore and use drain life when too low. Although, since *deep breath* negative vuln. was turfed out and DS went from 4% to 2% (I miss 1.6, okay? It was fun to turn from "reasonable rep of a crappy class" to "Midget Jesus on wheels" in one patch) it can't be done.
Mostly because I just tried playing a mage, and came very close to throwing my screen through the kitchen window.
