OK, how about having wax as a commodity, and the ability to:
-make candles (perhaps with various delicious effects)
-send letters with official seals.
Say you have different types/colours of candles, imbued with different herbs (or not) that you can burn in a room. I'm thinking some utility-esque type things, nothing that's going to affect PvP combat at all. Increasing willpower/endurance regen? Unimaginative, I know. Perhaps candles that can change the effective room-type as far as racial regen goes - bring a forest-scented candle with you and burn it to get your natural faeling health/mana regen even in the mountains. Etc etc.
So as not to have any great effect on combat, perhaps have candles only able to be lit while dropped, and blowing them out require but not consume balance?
The wax seal thing would just be a nifty little feature, giving you the ability to send "official" documents - for example, a letter "with the official seal of The Righteous Principality of New Celest".
To be honest, I'm just trying to justify this because I love the idea of candles for my wiccan RP.

It would be cool for RP

I liiiiike.

Just as long as it doesn't become achaea's seal system.
Arel2007-06-17 17:54:41
It doesn't sound like it is all heraldic. It sounds cool enough to be a fun RP device and generic enough not to be annoying.
Arel2007-06-17 18:22:13
Could make candles an ability in arts/artisan and sealing an ability in bookbinding.
Hazar2007-06-17 19:26:33
Yes.
And willpower regen sounds excellent.

Nice idea!
Theomar2007-06-17 21:02:14
Actually, it is a nice idea, despite Verithrax's nay-saying. Use Aetolia's system, where you buy a candle and sealing wax. Then, the spies of the game, syssin (unless I have the Impy and Aetolia guilds backwards), could make counterfeit seals, so that it looks like a letter sent to you by X. It'd be cool to mess with people.

The only problem I see is... Are there bees? I honestly can't remember ever seeing bees. If there are bees, fine... but if not, then where will the wax come from?
Then again, aren't there honeycombs? So... there must be bees. Where are all the bees?
So, anyway, yay candles!

Verithrax2007-06-17 21:50:18
But I wasn't nay-saying!
Okin2007-06-18 00:54:04
Ooo, yes. Add bees, and hives, and bee-keepers in a few villages, and you have a whole new commodity quest/trade.
Also, I'm not aware of any candle/wax/seal system in any other IRE game, but I am vaguely aware of the heraldic system in Achaea. I was thinking the only thing you'd ever see of seals would be "it is marked with the seal of blah", with no actual IC reference to what any of the seals actually looked like. Heraldry seems boring.
Oh, and I was thinking the whole thing would fall under Arts, in an ability like Waxcraft (like woodcraft etc.) but have it be really high up, unlike the other crafts.

Arix2007-06-18 00:56:45
hot wax for the more masochistic MUDsexers
Hazar2007-06-18 01:04:05
There's bees in the swarm demesne effect...
Diamondais2007-06-18 01:04:13
There's bees and beekeepers in the Tol-whatsit Valley. Wax in one of the Kephera hives.
Hazar2007-06-18 01:13:52
Might be wax in the wasp nest too, not sure. Will check.
Noola2007-06-18 01:16:17
Wow! There's all sorts of bees apparently! Nifty.
Vix2007-06-18 02:26:36
Ezyth will provide free wax to whoever greets him! He's a freaking 600 pound bee so he must have a huge stash of wax and honey.
Sylphas2007-06-18 03:36:13
This is false advertising. I could have sworn this said "Candies."
