Hm, looking back on my Achaean days, I must say I'm rather ashamed of my snuggly behavior. I think I'll attribute that to my lack of maturity some years ago. Coming to Lusternia has definitely improved my attitude though and has shifted it into practically the opposite end of the spectrum.
Charune2007-06-25 02:55:38
Psh, Vix is snuggly.
Vix2007-06-25 03:38:52
Not as snuggly as Achaean Vix.
And this coming from the Cookie Monster.

Also, putting a "k" on "magick" makes you original.
Personally, I think the k spelling looks better. Yes, I know, I'm biased.
Daganev2007-06-25 06:43:05
I had always assumed it was magick, to deferentiate it from things being "magical" such as nature magic or divine magic.

"Magic" generally refers to the sort put on by prestidigitators and illusionists, while "magick" generally refers to sorcery, pagan ritual, the occult, etc.

It is interesting to see how many Arcanists (Arcane Kindred isn't a name I care for. Darn my lack of internet at the time they were voting!) have shown up in Lusternia. I liked that guild but the insularity of Cyrene generally kind of drove me up a wall in the end. Too claustrophobic!
Achaea was the first mud I ever played but as was mentioned earlier, its not a world anymore. Its just a game. I still really really miss some things from there though. I still miss the conversations between Vortok, Garth, Mulkerrin and a few others. I loved hearing Garth and Mulkerrin talk about their shops and how Garth ranted about not stocking any more meteor arrows because of how cost-inefficient they were.
Three things have entrenched me in Lusternia:
The histories - they're brilliant, nothing more needs to be said.
Open beta - The newness of it all, the volatile change ...all of it really. It was the best time ever.
Logan - As in, the city in which I lived at the time Lusternia was released. The year I lived there was one of the best in my life and that still influences my perceptions of Lusternia. I remember walking up to campus on flooded sidewalks in december and writing out the basics of an astral cult that was later abandoned almost entirely and then going back to my apartment and falling asleep in a snow drift.
The biggest problem with Lusternia is the population. There's just not quite enough people to do the things I'm interested in doing these days.

I love Vortok!!! I tried so hard to get him to come over but the best I got was for him to make a little newb

In more or less words. As a side note, I hate Imperian Bards. If the bards in Lusternia ever get something along the same lines as that world instant kill attack as the bards in Imperian got, I'd hunt down each one and shove a hamster in their mouths. After I cut off their tongues.

Not really.
It's about the Magick Circle vs the Demon Circle vs The Anti-Magick Circle. Being a Demonic magick user does not make you evil, nor does being a magick user make you good. There is no good or evil in Imperian, unless you role play it.
And I like Imperian's bards, I have an alt there as one.
Sylphas2007-06-25 23:02:57
Imperian Bards are nifty. Artistry is the only tradeskill/guildskill that I don't loathe. I love Voice. Thespia is the only one I don't quite like, mostly because you can play more than one instrument at a time, which totally breaks my suspension of disbelief. I mean, I can play a drum and a flute at the same time, sure, but I'll suck at it, and even if I'm a virtuoso who can, I'll look like a retard. And I realize that picturing everything we actually do means we all look retarded, but I usually don't think about smoking three pipes at once while chugging five vials, or carrying that all, but I can't manage to block out the instruments.
Also, Acrobatics here should totally get juggling. I don't care if it's absolutely worthless for anything but RP, it'd still be awesome.

I didn't want to put that link on the page since I know Estarra likes privacy, but since you did, I don't think you read the descriptions carefully.
I don't see a separate one listed for Aetolia. (I'm not counting associates). If you look at that, Achaea has two producers, Lusternia two, and Aetolia and Imperian are sharing a single one.
My whole point being--going by that page, Achaea has 2 full-time producers and 3 associates, Lusternia has 2 full-time producers and one associate, and Imperian and Aeotila have 1 shared full-time producer and 1 AP each. So I would think Achaea is king, Lusternia is the crown princess, and Imperian and Aeotila are the Duke and Count, which might determine relative rank. So it was a logical hypothesis.

Now I understand why things move so slowly in Imperian. It seems as compared to Achaea and Lusternia that things move much much quicker in getting out new content than Imperian.
Here is what I like about Imperian
1. Conflict- the game is based one hundred percent around conflict. The entire premise is set up so that players can create and institue their own rp based around conflict. You are either in favor of Anti-magick, Magick, or Demonology. There is no grey area as to what is good or evil in your eyes. Not following this concept has pretty nasty consequences. This conflict leads to politics between guilds, cities, and councils. Politics leads to pk, lots and lots and lots of PK
2. Variety. There is a lot of variety in the professions in Imperian. There are no real archtypes to speak of. Yes there are knights, mages, druids, rangers, etc etc. But there is a huge difference between say the wardens, amazons and hunters/outriders. Big difference between the four knight professions in flavor that is. With that said I do wish there was something else that is completely different in the way of a profession. They just announce a new profession type called moonsages that would provide three new professions.
3. I like the layout of the land. Its quite small from what I've seen of Lusternia and Achaea, but that is a good thing because the player base at any given time is 80-150. I've been told that Aetherius is a copy of Achaea's layout. I noticed that a bit, but I can't stand Achaea.
4. Professions. Professions allow you to learn any guild skills that are within your circle. So if you are a bard, but want to try your hand as an assassin, knight, mage, druid, hunter...go right ahead. Say you are a priest, but want better combat go ahead and become a wardancer, monk, or warden. Switching is easy and really allows you to come up with some neat rp if the professions skills are similar in rp, but offer completely different skills like Monk/Priest, or better yet Druid and Hunter.
There is one really big thing I don't like about Imperian. There are some professions that you can use as a rogue. However there are quite a few that nearly REQUIRE you to be in a guild. A lot of skills require "workspace" type rooms that allow you to replenish your "essence", build required tools like instruments and toxins, etc, etc. Paying for 1000 credits worth of skills and then being thrown out of a guild for some reason, nearly always permanently and losing 1/3 of your skills really really sucks. The most glaring issue with this is with the rogue bards who basically lose 2 skillsets without a workbench.
Krellan2007-07-24 04:27:27
that's how lusternia is mostly. Tracker warriors are about he one class that can make a decent rogue. all other specializations require you belong to that city/commune. Some can still do decent, but you're really at an absurd disadvantage and tend to lose a third of your skills. for wiccans and guardians you have no chance of being a rogue.

monks now appear to be viable rogues as well.
