don't ruin it
Vix2007-06-29 05:02:54
Hee. "DHMO contaminated sewage." "DHMO is an "enabling component" of acid rain."
Verithrax2007-06-29 15:37:13
Weak.
Stangmar2007-06-29 19:21:34
Yeah, I just heard of this a week ago. My extreme left wing friend signed it saying, "Hey, if they say it helps stop global warming." The funny part is that he had just told me the week before that you should never follow blindly, always to think through it and evaluate it yourself. He just proved himself to be the biggest of hypocrites.
Verithrax2007-06-29 19:44:01
Not really, just stupid.
Aramel2007-07-09 01:25:28
Dihydrogen monoxide? Isn't that...
Wait. I won't spoil it for you.

didn't someplace actually ban it for a little while? I think my chemistry teacher told us about it once. Of course I can't really remember

This is what happens when you have blind faith in authoritative language
Diamondais2007-07-09 05:26:21

ROFL. That reminds me of a hoax that had people going around asking women to sign the petition to end Women SUFFRAGE. And most of them signed it thinking it meant ending Women SUFFERING.
Shiri2007-07-09 08:00:34
Acrune posted that a while ago, that was indeed pretty good.

((EDIT: On second thought, maybe that was a little to much to say.))

My teacher handed out sheets with this when I was a freshman in high school. First day of high school, first day of honors science.
Yeah, that's pretty hilarious. I didn't fall for it!

I've always loved this website. Of course, everyone here knows it's a joke and doesn't fall for it. If I show up for a conference dressed in an Armani suit and spend some time teaching everyone about the dangers of DHMO, a huge number of people would go for it. This is just a clever incarnation of typical marketing techniques; if we believe someone is an expert in a given field, we will believe almost anything they tell us. We might all pretend to be in the extreme upper-echelon in regards to our intelligence and claim immunity, but in reality the vast majority of forum goers (possibly myself included) would fall easily for this if it were presented correctly.

I'm not sure if it's the same group but there is one that goes to different things asking people to sigh a petition for it.
